Brother Quick Setup Guide
DCP-1610W / DCP-1615NW / DCP-1616NW / MFC-1910W / MFC-1911W / MFC-1911NW / MFC-1915W / MFC-1916NW
This guide provides instructions for setting up your Brother machine. For the latest manuals, visit the Brother Solutions Center: solutions.brother.com/manuals.
Important: Read the Product Safety Guide first, then follow this Quick Setup Guide for correct installation.
Unpack the machine and check the components
Ensure you have the following components:
- Inbox Toner Cartridge
- Telephone Line Cord (For MFC models, specifically MFC-1915W and MFC-1916NW)
- CD-ROM
- A5 Long Edge Paper Input Support
Note: Included components and AC power plug may vary by country. Illustrations are based on the MFC-1910W.
Cables: You must purchase the correct interface cable. A USB 2.0 cable (Type A/B, max 2 meters) is recommended. For network connection, use a straight-through Category 5 (or greater) twisted-pair cable for 10BASE-T or 100BASE-TX Fast Ethernet.
Secure Network Access: The default password is on the label on the back of the machine (preceded by "Pwd"). Change it to prevent unauthorized access.
Step 1: Remove packing materials and install the toner cartridge
Follow the visual instructions to remove packing materials and install the toner cartridge.
Step 2: Load paper in the paper tray
Adjust the paper guides to fit the paper being used. For A5 Long Edge paper, use the paper guides accordingly.
Step 3: Connect the power cord and turn on the machine
Connect the power cord and turn the machine on.
Step 4: Select your country/language (Initial setup only)
If prompted after turning on the machine, follow the on-screen instructions to set your country or language.
Step 5: Change your language (if needed)
For DCP models: Press Menu, navigate to 'General Setup', then 'Local Language', select your language, and press OK. Press Stop/Exit.
For MFC models: Press Menu, 0, 0, navigate to 'Local Language', select your language, and press OK. Press Stop/Exit.
Step 6: Connect the telephone line cord (for MFC models only)
Connect the telephone line cord as shown for your specific MFC model.
Step 7: Connect the machine to your computer/mobile device
7A: Configuration using the CD-ROM (Windows®)
If the Brother screen does not appear automatically, navigate to 'Computer' (or 'My Computer'), double-click the CD-ROM icon, and run 'start.exe'.
Connection Type: Select your connection type (USB, Wired Network, or Wireless Network) and click 'Next'. Follow the on-screen instructions.
For USB Connection: Follow instructions until the Connection Type screen.
For Wired Network Connection: Connect a network cable first, then follow instructions.
For Wireless Network Connection: It is recommended to use a USB cable temporarily for setup. Select 'Yes, I have a USB cable to use for installation' for the recommended method. Follow the on-screen instructions.
7B: Configuration without the CD-ROM (Windows® without CD-ROM drive or Macintosh)
Download the full driver and software package from the Brother Solutions Center:
- Windows®: solutions.brother.com/windows
- Macintosh: solutions.brother.com/mac
After downloading, follow the on-screen instructions, referring to step 7A for guidance on the Connection Type screen.
7C: One-push wireless setup for mobile devices (Wireless models only)
If your wireless LAN access point/router supports WPS/AOSS™, you can set up your machine wirelessly without a computer.
Press the WPS or AOSS™ button on your wireless LAN access point/router, then press the WiFi button on your machine. Wireless setup is now complete.
Print and scan using your mobile device
Download the "Brother iPrint&Scan" application to use your machine with mobile devices. Visit solutions.brother.com/ips.
