Brother Quick Setup Guide

Unpack the machine and check the components
Unpack the machine and verify that all components are present. The included components may differ depending on your country. Interface cables (USB, Network) are not included and must be purchased separately.
- Drum Unit and Inbox Toner Cartridge
- Telephone Line Cord (For MFC models)
- Telephone Line Cord Adapter (Australia only)
- AC Power Cord (only for certain models)

Notes on Cables:
- USB cable: Brother recommends using a USB 2.0 cable (Type A/B) that is no more than 2 metres long.
- Network cable: Use a straight-through Category 5 (or greater) twisted-pair cable.
The illustrations in this guide primarily show the MFC-L2710DW model.
Step 1: Remove the packing materials and install the drum unit and toner cartridge assembly
Carefully unpack the drum unit and toner cartridge assembly. Remove the orange protective part from the toner cartridge. Push the assembly firmly into the machine until it clicks into place.
Step 2: Load paper in the paper tray
Adjust the paper guides in the paper tray to match the size of the paper you are loading. Do not load paper beyond the maximum fill mark indicated in the tray.
Step 3: Connect the power cord and turn the machine on
Connect the AC power cord to the machine and plug it into an electrical outlet. Press the power button to turn the machine on.
Step 4: Select your country/language (Initial setup only)
After turning the machine on, you may be prompted to set your country or language. If required, follow the on-screen instructions displayed on the machine's control panel.
Step 5: Select your language (if needed)
If you need to change the language:

For DCP models:
- Press the button.
- Use the / keys to display [Initial Setup], then press [OK].
- Use the / keys to display [Local Language], then press [OK].

For MFC models: Press [Menu], then 0, then 0.
- Use the / keys to select your desired language, then press [OK].
- Press the button to finish.
Step 6: Select a device to connect to your machine
Choose the type of device you want to connect:
- Computer: Go to Step 7 and follow the instructions. Brother recommends configuring wireless settings from your computer.
- Mobile Device: Go to Step 9 and follow the instructions.
Step 7: Connect your computer
Brother regularly updates firmware to add features and apply bug fixes. To check for the latest firmware, visit support.brother.com/up5.
Installation Options:
- Insert the installation disc into your CD/DVD drive.
- Alternatively, download the Full Driver & Software Package from:
- For Windows®: support.brother.com/windows
- For Mac: support.brother.com/mac
If you are using a recently released operating system on your computer, visit the above websites for updated driver and software information.
Follow the on-screen instructions and prompts to complete the installation. For Windows®, if the Brother screen does not appear automatically, navigate to Computer (This PC), double-click the CD/DVD-ROM icon, and then double-click start.exe.
For Mac, for full driver functionality, Brother recommends choosing the CUPS driver when adding a printer.
Can't Connect? Check the following:
- Wireless network: Restart your wireless access point/router if possible.
- Wired network: Disconnect the cable.
- USB connection: Restart your machine and computer.
If connection is still not successful, try again by going to Step 8 (for wireless) or Step 7 (for computer installation). If issues persist, visit support.brother.com for FAQs & Troubleshooting.

Step 8: Alternative wireless setup
You can connect your device and machine directly, even without a wireless access point/router. For additional wireless network support, visit support.brother.com/wireless-support.
Setup via Access Point/Router:
Find your SSID (Network Name) and Network Key (Password) on your wireless access point/router. Write them in the table below:

If you cannot find this information, ask your network administrator or wireless access point/router manufacturer.
On the Machine:
To select each menu option, use the arrow keys (⬆️/⬇️) and press [OK] to confirm.
- Select [Network] > [WLAN] > [Setup Wizard], then press [OK].
- Select the SSID (Network Name) for your access point/router and enter the Network Key (Password).
When the wireless setup is successful, the LCD displays [Connected] .
If setup is not successful , restart your Brother machine and your wireless access point/router, and repeat Step 8.
After successful wireless setup:
- For Computer: Go to Step 7 to install software.
- For Mobile Device: Go to Step 9 to install apps.
Step 9: Print or scan using your mobile device
Your mobile device must be connected to the same wireless network as your Brother machine.
- AirPrint: Available for Apple device users. No software download is required. For more information, see the Online User's Guide.
- Mopria®: Download the Mopria® Print Service app from Google Play™ using your Android™ device.
- Brother iPrint&Scan: Download Brother's free application, Brother iPrint&Scan, from a mobile application store such as the App Store, Google Play™, or Microsoft® Store using your mobile device.
- Optional apps: You can print from and scan to your mobile device using various other apps. For instructions, see the Online User's Guide.
Brother SupportCenter is a mobile app that provides the latest support information for your Brother product. Visit the App Store or Google Play™ to download.
