2. Overview

The EPEVER RTU 2G A is a new wireless data transmission terminal based on the GPRS network. With a GSM/GPRS SIM card, connected devices can easily access the EPEVER cloud server to realize remote, wireless, and networked communication. The EPEVER RTU 2G A is suitable for EPEVER solar controllers, inverters, and inverter/chargers.

Features:

  • Extensive network coverage and flexible networking.
  • Low operating costs (charged by network flow).
  • Adopts a non-standard DB9 male terminal.
  • Embedded with Modbus RTU protocol.
  • Automatic restore after disconnection.
  • Supports RS485 communication.

3. Appearance

The device features an antenna port (labeled 1), a hole for viewing indicators (labeled 2), a DB9 male connector (labeled 3), and fixing screws (labeled 4).

DB9 Pin Definition

The pin definition of the terminal (DB9 female) connected to the DB9 male terminal is as follows:

Item Terminal Definition
1/2NCFloating
3VCC2Power2 (12V/200mA)
4GND2Power GND2

Indicators

You can observe the indicators' color and status through the hole (labeled 2).

Name Color Status Instruction
Network indicator (LED2) Red On solid Correct power supply
Network indicator (LED2) Red Slowly flashing (5s) Unregistered GPRS network / Registered GPRS network successfully

Note:

The EPEVER RTU 2G A supports 5~18V DC power. While a larger transient current is needed when the wireless network sends data, it is suggested to adopt a power adapter of DC 5V/500mA or above.

4. Parameter Configuration

  1. Connect the DB9 terminal (labeled 3) to the PC through a DB9 to USB adapter. Note: Connect an external power adapter to the DB9 female terminal to supply the EPEVER RTU 2G A.
  2. Insert the SIM card and power on the EPEVER RTU 2G A. For detailed SIM card installation, refer to chapter 6, Installation.
  3. Open the configuration tool on the PC and click the "connect" button to connect the EPEVER RTU 2G A successfully.
  4. Click the "Read" and "Write" buttons to configure the parameters.
  5. After configuring, power on the product again to make the modified parameters take effect.

Common Configuration Parameters:

Parameters Configuration
Server InfoNo modifications are recommended.
APN Different countries have different APNs. Please ensure the APN is correct. Products will not connect to the Internet with a fault APN. China APN: CMNET.

5. System Connection and Applications

The EPEVER RTU 2G A can be applied to solar street light systems and other applications. Through a GPRS signal, users can easily monitor operating status and modify related parameters on the Cloud platform.

Networking Methods:

According to different applications, the cloud platform provides two networking connection methods: "one-to-one" and "one-to-more." Controllers can be added to the system conveniently and flexibly using these methods. Users can remotely control or real-time monitor the controllers through the cloud platform.

One-To-One Connection

A diagram shows a single EPEVER RTU 2G A connecting to a controller, which then connects to a cloud platform (accessible via Web, APP, Screen, Data Centre).

One-To-More Connection

A diagram shows multiple EPEVER RTU devices (RTU 2G A, RTU 4G A, WIFI 2.4G RJ45 A, TCP 2.4G A, LORA) connecting to controllers, which then connect to a cloud platform.

After adding the device to the Cloud platform successfully, log in to the cloud platform at https://iot.epsolarpv.com to remotely monitor the real-time condition or set parameters.

Note:

For new accounts, devices need to be manually added in the EPEVER cloud before monitoring.

6. Installation

Step 1: Install the SIM Card

  • Purchase a SIM card and activate the GPRS service.
  • Undo the three screws from the EPEVER RTU 2G A. Push the shell upward and take out the circuit board.
  • Take out the small SIM card and insert it into the card slot correctly. The SIM card should be inserted in the indicated direction.

After successful installation, reinstall the product shell.

Step 2: Install the silicone pad

Tear off the silicone pad's adhesive and stick the silicone pad to the DB9 terminal of the EPEVER RTU 2G A.

Step 3: Install the antenna

Connect the 4G antenna to the antenna port of the EPEVER RTU 2G A.

Step 4: Connect the controller

Connect the EPEVER RTU 2G A to the controller's COM port through a DB9 adapter.

Caution:

As a wireless terminal, keep the antenna away from the human body as far as possible during the operation process.
