Installation
Installing the Driver
Remove the four screws that attach the coverplate to the enclosure.
Connect the internal wire to the woofer driver. Connect the RED wire to the Positive Terminal and the Black wire to the Negative terminal. If you are using multiple subwoofers, it is critical that the polarity of all the woofers must be the same.
Attach the woofer driver to the enclosure using the twelve hex head screws. The appropriate hex driver is included with the screws. Tighten all twelve screws evenly to minimize any air leakage that could occur.
Note on Drywall Installation: A coverplate is provided and should remain in place until the Sonance Cinema Subwoofer is installed. Do not tape or mud the gap. A gap of no more than 1/8" (3 mm) is permitted. (Spanish: espacio reservado pare el Cinema Subwoofer de Sonance INSTRUCCIONES PLACA DE YESO Esta ploco debe permanecer en lugar hasta la instalación del Cinema Subwoofer de Sonance. Empalmar la placa de yeso contra todos los bord Hasta 1/8" (3mm) de brecha es permitido.)
Installing the Grille and Frame
Attach the Grille Mounting Frame to the enclosure using the twelve flat head Phillips head screws. Tighten all the screws evenly so the Grill Mounting Frame is flush with the wall at all points around the perimeter.
Install the Grille onto the Grille Mounting Frame. The powerful Neodymium magnets will attract the grille very quickly. Care should be taken to get the grille aligned correctly before placing it close to the Grille Mounting Frame.
Painting the Grille
Please refer to the accompanying Painting Instructions sheet for painting instructions.
Setup and Calibration
Typical Home Theatre
Subwoofer Driver Phase
Before connecting the wires from the subwoofer driver to the amplifier, ensure the subwoofer driver is connected in the proper phase. To test this, take a small battery rated at around 1.5 volts (AA, C, or D batteries are suitable). Hold the positive wire from the subwoofer driver to the battery's positive terminal. Momentarily touch the negative wire from the subwoofer driver to the battery's negative terminal. Observe the subwoofer driver: it should move outwards (into the room) each time you touch the negative terminal.
If the woofer moves inwards, the woofer is not connected correctly. You can either remove the subwoofer driver from the enclosure and reverse the connections, or reverse the connections on the back of the amplifier to correct the subwoofer system's phase.
If your home theater contains more than one subwoofer, repeat this process for each subwoofer driver. Correct phasing in multiple subwoofer installations is critical for maximum performance.
Calibration
Once the system is set up, you can calibrate it. Many modern surround receivers and processors include an automatic calibration and equalization system. If yours has one, follow the manufacturer's instructions to complete the process. This automatic calibration not only sets the correct subwoofer level but also performs equalization for optimal bass performance in your room.
If your surround receiver or processor does not have an automatic calibration routine, you will need to perform manual calibration. Consult your surround receiver or processor's instructions. A simple SPL (Sound Pressure Level) meter will be needed to calibrate your system correctly. The use of an SPL meter is strongly recommended.
