Network Topology
The network setup involves the following components:
- Tenda AP Controller: Manages Access Points.
- PoE Switch: Provides Power over Ethernet and network connectivity.
- Tenda Router: Connects the local network to the internet.
- Internet: The external network connection.
- Laptop: Used for management.
- Smartphone: Can also be used for management or as a client device.
- Access Points (APs): Wireless devices that provide network access.
The diagram illustrates a typical setup where a laptop and smartphone connect to Access Points, which are then connected via a PoE Switch to a Tenda Router, providing internet access. (Note: The W15-Pro model is used as an example; wiring for other models is similar.)
Configure the AP
There are two primary methods to configure the Access Point:
Method 1: Through a Tenda hardware controller
If your local network includes a Tenda hardware controller (such as a Tenda AP controller or a Tenda router with AP management functionality), you can manage multiple APs in batches through this controller. For detailed instructions, please visit www.tendacn.com to obtain the user guide for the specific hardware controller model.
Method 2: Through the AP's web UI
Tips:
- To avoid IP address conflicts when configuring multiple APs in a LAN, it is recommended to connect and configure one AP first (including changing its IP address). Then, repeat these steps for other APs.
- Record the modified IP addresses of the APs for future management.
Steps:
- Use an Ethernet cable to connect your management computer to a switch that is connected to the AP.
- Set the IP address of your management computer to the same network segment as the AP. The default IP address for the AP is typically 192.168.0.254. For example, if the AP's IP address is 192.168.0.254, you can set your computer's IP address to 192.168.0.X (where X is a number from 2 to 253 and is not used by other devices) and the subnet mask to 255.255.255.0.
- Start a web browser on your management computer and enter the AP's IP address in the address bar to access the web UI for management.
