Introduction
The CaddyView V2 Laser Rangefinder by CaddyTek is a precision measurement device designed for golf. It helps users determine the precise distance to targets, improving swings, shots, and scores. This manual provides information on its features and operation for future reference.
Battery Installation
The CaddyView V2 rangefinder requires a CR2 3-volt battery (included). To install:
- Open the battery compartment located below the eyepiece.
- Insert the negative end (flat end) of the CR2 battery first.
A low battery indicator (□) will appear on the LCD screen when the battery is low. The rangefinder will power off automatically after fifteen minutes of inactivity. A new battery must be inserted to resume use.
ⓘ Visual description: A diagram shows the CaddyView V2 rangefinder with its battery compartment open, indicating the correct orientation for inserting a CR2 battery. The eyepiece is visible on the left, and the battery compartment is on the right side of the device.
Rangefinder Display and Controls
The CaddyView V2 features several key components and an internal LCD display with various indicators:
- Mode Button: Used to switch between measurement modes and change units.
- Power Button: Used to turn the device on/off and initiate measurements.
- Eyepiece: For viewing the internal LCD display.
- Battery Compartment: Located on the side for battery access.
LCD Display Indicators:
- FlagSeeking Mode Indicator: Appears when FlagSeeking Mode is active.
- Distance Display: Shows the measured distance.
- Unit of Measure: Indicates whether the distance is in Yards (Y) or Meters (M).
- Aiming Circle with Laser Indicator Box: Used to target objects; a box (□) appears around it when the laser is firing.
- Low Battery Indicator: Alerts when battery power is low (□).
- Slope Compensation Distance: (For "+Slope" model) Displays the adjusted distance for uphill or downhill shots.
ⓘ Visual description: A diagram illustrates the CaddyView V2 rangefinder with labels pointing to its Mode button, Power button, Eyepiece, and Battery Compartment. Adjacent to it, a circular representation of the LCD display shows numerical readouts (e.g., "164Y", "203G") and symbols for FlagSeeking mode, aiming circle, low battery, and slope compensation.
Operating Instructions
The CaddyView V2 has a measurement range of 5 to 800 yards (5 to 731 meters) for objects and 5 to 250 yards (5 to 228 meters) for a flagstick.
Note: Target characteristics (size, brightness, finish), lighting conditions, and angle to the target can influence the maximum range and ranging capability. Low light or overcast days provide optimal performance. A 90-degree angle to laser pulses offers better measurement than a 45-degree angle.
Instructions for Use
- Hold the rangefinder with the eyepiece facing you.
- Place the rangefinder up to your eye level. Press and release the power button to turn the rangefinder on.
- Point the aiming circle at your intended target. To take a measurement, press and release the Power button once. While the laser is firing, an indicator box (□) will appear around the aiming circle. Once this box disappears, the measurement has been calculated.
To scan the landscape, hold down the power button while moving the rangefinder across the landscape. The box will flash to indicate that the laser is still firing. The rangefinder will continue to measure as long as the power button is depressed. As targets change, the yardage will update. In FlagSeeking Mode, yardage changes only when a shorter distance is measured.
Your distance in yards or meters will appear at the top of the internal LCD. For the "+Slope" model, when the "+Slope plate" is installed, the Slope Compensation Distance will also be displayed below the Aiming circle.
Measurement Modes
How to use Scan Mode
In Scan Mode, the CaddyView V2 allows for multiple measurements:
- To turn the rangefinder on, press and release the power button. Then, press and hold the power button down and slowly move the rangefinder across your intended targets. The laser indicator box (□) will continue to flash, and various readings will appear on the LCD display.
- Release the Power button. The final measurement taken before releasing the button will be displayed.
How to use FlagSeeking Mode
FlagSeeking Mode helps determine the distance to the flagstick by analyzing measurement data to find the closest target. A golf flag graphic appears on the left side of the LCD when this mode is active.
- To activate: Turn on the rangefinder (press/release Power button). Then, a quick press and release of the Mode button will activate FlagSeeking Mode, and the flagstick graphic will appear on the LCD.
- To deactivate: A quick press and release of the Mode button will de-activate FlagSeeking mode, and the flagstick graphic will disappear.
How to change the unit of measure
The CaddyView V2 can measure distances in yards or meters. To change the unit:
- Turn on the rangefinder (press the power button). The unit of measure indicator is in the upper right of the LCD display ("Y" for yards, "M" for meters).
- Press and hold the mode button to switch the unit of measure between yards and meters.
For "+Slope" Model
The CaddyView V2+ Slope model includes a "+Slope Plate". This plate can be snapped on to replace the regular plate, activating the "Slope Compensation distance" mode. The compensated distance for uphill or downhill shots will be displayed on the LCD. Users can switch between the two plates to meet play requirements. Note that the Slope Compensate Distance is considered illegal for some tournament play.
ⓘ Visual description: A diagram shows two views of the CaddyView V2 rangefinder. The first view depicts the device with its standard plate, and arrows indicate the process of removing it and attaching the "+Slope Plate". The second view shows the rangefinder with the "+Slope Plate" installed, signifying the activation of the slope compensation feature.
Operation Notes
- Auto Shutoff: If the CaddyView V2 has not been used for approximately 10 seconds, the unit will turn off automatically to conserve battery life.
- Weather Conditions: Heavy rain and thick fog may negatively affect the rangefinder's performance.
- Temperature Extremes: The rangefinder should not be exposed to extreme heat or cold for long periods. Normal use and travel will not affect it, but long-term storage in extreme temperatures can impact the rangefinder and battery performance.
- Waterproof: The CaddyView V2 is waterproof to IPX4 classification, protecting it from rain and splashing water. However, it should NOT be submerged in any liquid.
Cleaning
- Lenses and Faceplates: Use a soft, clean cloth, similar to one used for eyeglasses. Avoid hard-bristle brushes to prevent scratches. Do NOT use liquid of any kind directly on these parts. A lens cleaning cloth is included with the product.
- Outer Casing: Use a cloth with a small amount of mild soap and water. Do NOT submerge the product in liquid or get it overly wet. Do NOT use abrasive cleaners. Always apply cleaning liquid to the cloth, not directly to the rangefinder's surface.
- Storage: Store the rangefinder in its carrying case when not in use.
Troubleshooting
If the rangefinder is not functioning properly, check and replace the battery first, as this often resolves issues.
If the rangefinder is displaying an incorrect measurement:
- Check for the low battery indicator (□) on the LCD screen. Lack of power can cause imprecise measurements. If present, replace the battery.
- Verify the measuring unit (yards or meters). The user might have accidentally changed the unit. Press the power button; "Y" indicates yards, "M" indicates meters. Refer to the "How to change the unit of measure" section for instructions.
If the rangefinder only gets a reading some of the time:
- Ensure fingers or other objects are not blocking the sending or receiving lenses.
- Measuring through a cart windshield may prevent accurate readings.
- Slight changes in user behavior often improve performance. Follow the OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS in this manual for proper use.
