Bumper Removal
- Remove the rear light clusters, two fixings on each light. Remove the rear bumper two fixings each side of boot opening, three fixings in each wheel arch and one tip fixing behind each wheel arch liner. One fixing along lower edge by each wheel arch. Pull bumper rearwards to release from vehicle. Cut the rear bumper 45mm to the N/S from the centre line and 215mm to the O/S from the centre line x 10mm deep.
- Remove the rear impact beam. (This is not refitted with the Towbar assembly, please hand back to customer).
Towbar Installation
- Lower the exhaust and remove the towing eyelet. (This is not refitted with the Towbar assembly, please hand back to customer).
- Lower the spare wheel and remove the wheel from the carrier. Unbolt the carrier from the N/S chassis member and discard the fixings. Using Item F with Item K bolt Item X to the chassis member noting orientation. Using Item F with Item K bolt the carrier back to Item X.
- Using Item E with Item J fix Items B to each chassis member.
- Fix Item A to the rear panel using Items F with Items K.
- Using Item G with Item L fix Item A to Items B.
- Using Item H with Item J and Item D with Item J fix Item C and Item M to Item A.
- Fully tighten all fixings until Towbar is rigid, square and secure.
- Refit the rear bumper, lights and raise the spare wheel (Please note rotate carrier hook 180 degrees and use forward most bar to rehang spare wheel carrier).
Diagram Description
The diagram illustrates the Tow-Trust TMIT1VK towbar assembly for the Mitsubishi Outlander 2012. It shows the main components and their mounting points. The assembly includes:
- Item A: Crossmember, the main structural bar.
- Item B: Chassis Brackets, which attach the towbar to the vehicle's chassis.
- Item C: Detachable Housing, where the towball assembly connects.
- Item X: Spare wheel Cage Bracket, which is mounted to the chassis.
- Item M: Flip Up Socket Plate, for the electrical socket.
Various fixings are shown, corresponding to the parts list:
- Item F (M8 x 25 Bolts) and Item K (8 x 25 Flat Washers) are used to attach the spare wheel cage bracket (Item X) to the chassis.
- Item E (M12 x 120 Bolts) and Item J (12 x 25 Flat Washers) are used to fix the chassis brackets (Item B) to the chassis members.
- Item F and Item K are used to fix the crossmember (Item A) to the rear panel.
- Item G (M10 x 40 Bolts) and Item L (10 x 25 Flat Washers) are used to attach the crossmember (Item A) to the chassis brackets (Item B).
- Item H (M12 x 25 Bolts) and Item J (12 x 25 Flat Washers), along with Item D (M12 x 22 Bolts) and Item J (12 x 25 Flat Washers), are used to fix the detachable housing (Item C) and the socket plate (Item M) to the crossmember (Item A).
FIG.1 and FIG.2 provide detailed views of specific mounting points, indicating the types and quantities of bolts and washers used, such as '2 x F', '4 x K', '2 x K', '2 x F', 'H', 'J', 'G', '2 x L', 'E', 'K', 'F', 'M', 'D', 'C', 'B', 'A', 'X'. These figures clarify the precise hardware for each connection point.
Notes
1. Recommended Torque Setting for M12 Grade 10.9 - 139 Nm. (For other Torque Settings see notes overleaf.)
2. Nose load limits and vehicle manufacturers trailer / caravan weight limits must be observed.
