Product Overview
The FortiExtender Vehicle 511G (FEV-511G) is a secure 5G/LTE wireless WAN extender designed for vehicular and industrial applications. It integrates a 5G Sub 6 GHz high power module, dual-band WiFi6 (802.11 a/b/g/n/ac/ax), and BLE 5.0. Key features include one 2.5GE WAN port, four GE LAN RJ45 ports, a USB 2.0 Type A port, a DB9 console port, an industrial digital I/O port, and a relay output.

Modem: Telit FN990A28-HP 5G module supporting up to 3.4 Gbps (DL) / 460 Mbps (UL) @5G NSA or 2.5 Gbps (DL) / 900 Mbps (UL) @5G SA, and GPS/Glonass/Beidou/Galileo navigation.

Front Panel Overview
The front panel features LEDs for system status and controls for operation.
LED Indicators:
- Power/System: Green (Normal operation), Amber (System error or booting).
- Cellular 5G LNK/ACT: Blue (Connected, >=50% signal), Amber (Connected, <50% signal). Flashing indicates activity or modem firmware upgrade.
- Cellular LTE LNK/ACT: Green (Connected, >=50% signal), Amber (Connected, <50% signal). Flashing indicates activity or modem firmware upgrade.
- GPS/GNSS: Green (Locked, >5 satellites), Amber (Locked, <=5 satellites). Off indicates no GPS/GNSS lock.
- WiFi WAN: Green (2.5G/1G wired or 5G WiFi connected as WAN), Amber (100M wired or 2.4G WiFi connected as WAN). Flashing indicates activity.
- WiFi LAN 2.4G: Green (Connected), Flashing (Activity).
- WiFi LAN 5G: Green (Connected), Flashing (Activity).
- BT/BLE: Green (Bluetooth ON).
Controls:
- Reset Button: Press for less than 5 seconds for a system reset. Press for 5 seconds or more to revert to factory defaults.
- SIM Card Slot Cover: Protects the SIM card slots.
Rear View and Ports
The rear panel provides antenna connectors, network ports, and power input.
Antenna Connectors:
- WiFi Antenna (x2)
- Cellular Antenna 0, 1, 2, 3 (x4)
- GNSS Antenna (x1)
- Bluetooth Antenna (x1)
Network Ports:
- 2.5GE WAN Port: Features a Blue LED for 2.5GbE connection/activity and a Green/Amber LED for 1GbE/100MbE connection/activity.
- LAN1-4 Ports: Four Gigabit Ethernet ports. Each port has a Green LED for 1GbE connection/activity and an Amber LED for 100MbE connection/activity.
Other Ports and Controls:
- USB 2.0 Port Type A
- DB9 Console Port: Requires a baud rate of 115200 for device access.
- Digital I/O Port: Includes an opto-isolated input and a NO/NC relay output.
- Power Input: Accepts 7-50VDC, suitable for 12V/24V vehicle battery systems. Uses a 4-pin locked plug connector.
- Power Button: Press to lock for power on; press to release for power off.
Digital I/O and Power Definitions
Digital I/O:
- Isolated Digital Input: Supports voltage inputs from 0V to 50V.
- Relay Output: Provides a Normally Open (NO) and Common (COM) connection, and a Normally Closed (NC) and Common (COM) connection.
Power Input Pin Definitions:
- Ignition Sense: Monitors the vehicle's ignition status.
- Power +: Positive terminal for power connection.
- GND: Ground connection.
- Reserved: Pin reserved for future use.
Basic Connections
Power Connection to Vehicle:
- Ensure the device is powered off by releasing the power button [power-off-symbol].
- Plug the vehicle power adapter's cigarette lighter connector into the vehicle's cigarette lighter socket.
- Connect the 4-pin locked plug of the power adapter to the device's power input socket.
- Press and lock the power button [power-on-symbol] to turn the device on.
Note: UL/cUL Listing for US/Canada vehicle use does not cover products connected directly to the vehicle battery via a DC cable/connector.
Assembly and SIM Installation
- Unscrew and remove the SIM socket dust cover.
- Insert MicroSIM (3FF) card(s) into the SIM socket(s):
- If installing one SIM card, it can be placed in either SIM socket.
- If installing two SIM cards, use SIM1 as the primary socket and SIM2 as the secondary.
- Insert the SIM card(s) with the card facing down and the cut corner positioned on the left. Press firmly to seat the card.
- Replace the SIM socket dust cover, tighten the screws, and attach all necessary antennas.
