Overview

The Kaiweets KM601 is a smart digital multimeter with various features for electrical measurements.

Features

Button Function Button Function
(Power) Press and hold for ~2 seconds to turn on/off the meter. (Flashlight) Press to turn on/off the flashlight.
APO Press to turn on/off Auto Power Off. Meter turns off automatically after ~15 minutes of inactivity. A 1-minute warning beep will sound. The '' symbol indicates APO is active. AUTO FUNC Power on defaults to SMART mode (' SMART' displayed). Press to enter MANUAL mode. Press again to cycle through measurement modes. Press and hold for ~2 seconds to return to SMART mode.
SEL Press to select functions (valid for voltage, current, and live tests). RANGE Press to enter manual range mode and select range. Press and hold for ~2 seconds to return to autoranging. Invalid in SMART mode. Valid for voltage, resistance, and mA tests.
MAX MIN Press to capture maximum/minimum values. Press and hold for ~2 seconds to return to normal measurement. Invalid for capacitance, frequency/duty, temperature, NCV/Live tests. Meter enters manual range mode in MAX/MIN measurement. REL HOLD Press to turn data hold on/off. Press and hold for ~2 seconds to turn Relative Value measurement on/off. Invalid for NCV/Live tests. Relative Value measurement is invalid for resistance, continuity, diode, frequency/duty, temperature, NCV/Live tests. Meter enters manual range mode in Relative Value measurement.

Terminals

The multimeter features input jacks for various measurements. Jack indication lights guide the user to insert test leads correctly.

Making Measurements

When connecting test leads, connect the common (COM) lead first, then the live lead. When disconnecting, remove the live lead first, then the common lead.

Warnings

SMART (AUTO) Measurement Mode

The meter defaults to SMART mode, which automatically detects and selects the range for DC voltage, AC voltage, resistance, and continuity measurements.

  1. Turn on the meter by pressing and holding the power button () for approximately 2 seconds. The screen will display 'Auto' and the pointer will move, indicating SMART mode.
  2. Insert the red probe into the appropriate jack (e.g., VΩHz%°C/F) and the black probe into the 'COM' jack.
  3. Touch the test leads together. A beep and indicator light confirm normal operation (used for continuity check).

MANUAL Measurement Mode

Press the 'AUTO FUNC' button to switch from SMART mode to MANUAL mode. Press the button again to cycle through the available measurement functions.

AC/DC Voltage Measurement

  1. Ensure the meter is on and test leads are connected correctly.
  2. Press 'AUTO FUNC' until the ' V' symbol and 'V' signal are displayed for DC voltage measurement.
  3. Press 'SEL' to switch to AC voltage measurement, indicated by ' V' and 'V' signals.

Note:

Resistance Measurement

  1. Ensure the meter is on and test leads are connected correctly.
  2. Press 'AUTO FUNC' until the '' symbol is displayed for resistance measurement.

Note:

Continuity Test

  1. Ensure the meter is on and test leads are connected correctly.
  2. Press 'AUTO FUNC' to select the continuity measurement mode (indicated by a sound symbol ).
  3. Connect the test leads to the circuit. If the resistance is less than 50Ω and the circuit is live, the buzzer will sound, and the indicator light will illuminate. The measured resistance value will be displayed.

Diode Test

  1. Ensure the meter is on and test leads are connected correctly.
  2. Press 'AUTO FUNC' to select the diode test mode (indicated by a diode symbol ).
  3. Connect the red test lead to the anode and the black test lead to the cathode of the diode.
  4. If connected in reverse polarity, '[ ]' will be displayed. A forward voltage drop will be displayed for a good diode.

Capacitance Measurement

  1. Ensure the meter is on and test leads are connected correctly.
  2. Press 'AUTO FUNC' to select the capacitance measurement mode (indicated by 'nF' or '' symbol).

AC/DC mV Voltage Measurement

  1. Ensure the meter is on and test leads are connected correctly.
  2. Press 'AUTO FUNC' to select the mV measurement mode (indicated by '' for DC mV or '' for AC mV).
  3. Press 'SEL' to switch between AC and DC mV measurements.

Note:

Frequency/Duty Measurement

  1. Ensure the meter is on and test leads are connected correctly.
  2. Press 'AUTO FUNC' to select the Frequency/Duty Ratio mode (indicated by 'Hz %' symbols).

Temperature Measurement

  1. Ensure the meter is on and test leads are connected correctly.
  2. Insert the K-type thermocouple probes into the appropriate jacks (positive to 'VΩHz%°C/F', negative to 'COM').
  3. Press 'AUTO FUNC' to select the temperature mode (indicated by 'C' or 'F').
  4. Touch the thermocouple tip to the object being measured. Allow a few seconds for the reading to stabilize.

Note:

Non-contact AC Voltage Detection (NCV)

  1. Ensure the meter is on and test leads are connected correctly.
  2. Press 'AUTO FUNC' to select the NCV mode (indicated by 'NCV').
  3. Bring the NCV sensor near the point to be tested.
  4. When voltage is detected, the indicator light will illuminate, and the unit will beep.

Signal Strength Indication:

Live Wire Detecting

  1. Ensure the meter is on and test leads are connected correctly.
  2. Press 'AUTO FUNC' to select 'NCV/Live' mode.
  3. Press 'SEL' to display the 'LIVE' symbol.
  4. Insert the red probe into the 'VΩHz%°C/F' jack and remove the black probe.
  5. Touch the test lead point to the object under test.

Live Wire Indication:

Ampere (A) Current Measurement

Warning: Do not measure current exceeding 10A in this gear to avoid blowing the fuse.

  1. Ensure the meter is on.
  2. Insert the red probe into the '10A' jack and the black probe into the 'COM' jack. The meter automatically selects the 'A' gear.
  3. 'DC A' or 'AC A' will be displayed for DC or AC current measurement, respectively. Press 'SEL' to switch between AC and DC.

Note:

mA Current Measurement

Warning: Do not measure current exceeding 600mA in this gear to avoid blowing the fuse.

  1. Ensure the meter is on.
  2. Insert the red probe into the 'mA' jack and the black probe into the 'COM' jack. The meter automatically selects the 'mA' gear.
  3. 'DC mA' or 'AC mA' will be displayed for DC or AC current measurement, respectively. Press 'SEL' to switch between AC and DC.

Maintenance

Cleaning

Install Batteries

  1. Remove test leads and the outer rubber case.
  2. Remove the screw under the flashlight to access the battery compartment.
  3. Install 3 x 1.5V AAA batteries, observing correct polarity.
  4. Replace the battery door, tighten the screw, and reinstall the rubber case.

Replace Fuses

If the '' symbol is displayed, the fuse is blown, and the current measurement function will not work. Replace the fuse with the correct type:

To replace fuses:

  1. Turn off the meter and remove test leads.
  2. Remove the outer rubber case.
  3. Remove the screw under the flashlight to access the battery compartment.
  4. Remove the screws securing the case cover.
  5. Carefully remove the cover to access the fuses.
  6. Replace the blown fuse with a new one of the correct rating.
  7. Reassemble the meter, ensuring all screws are tightened and the rubber case is properly fitted.
