Firmware Version Upgrade Utility Instructions
Xerox® Phaser® 6510 Color Printer
Xerox® WorkCentre® 6515 Color Multifunction Printer
Before you begin
You can update the firmware version of your printer using an Ethernet connection or a USB cable:
- Connect the PC and the printer to the same network, or connect directly using a USB Type-A to Type-B cable.
Note: The USB Type-B port is on the back of the printer. - Turn on the power for the PC and the printer. When the printer reaches the Ready state, print a Configuration Report, or use the Startup Page that automatically printed out. The Startup Page contains the IP address of your printer.
Download the Firmware .bin file and the Firmware Download Utility .zip file:
- Open a browser and access http://www.support.xerox.com/support/enus.html.
- In the Search or Choose field, type your printer model, then press Enter. Select the Drivers and Downloads link.
- Download and extract the Firmware Download Utility .zip file. Note the location of the file on your computer.
- Download the Firmware .bin file and note the location of the file on your computer.
Procedure
- At your computer, open a web browser. In the address bar, enter the IP Address of your printer, then press Enter.
- If you are not logged in as the system administrator, select Login, enter user name and password, then click Login. The default user name is admin and default password is 1111.
- In the Xerox Embedded Web Server, select Home > System > Software Update > Enable.
- To run the Firmware Version Upgrade Utility, double click the FWDLMgr.exe file.
- Read the Firmware Upgrade Tool End User License Agreement, then click Agree.
- From the Printer Model menu, select your printer.
Note: You may need to scroll to the bottom of the list. - Click Browse, then navigate to the location of the Firmware .bin file on your computer.
- Select the .bin file, then click Open.
- Click Add, then click Next.
- Follow the instructions for Ethernet or USB Cable on the next page.
Ethernet Instructions
- To perform an upgrade using Ethernet, select Network (Port9100), then click Next.
- Select the IP Address Input radio button. then enter the IP address in the field provided. Click Next. You can find the IP address of your printer on the Printer Configuration Report or the Startup Page.
The Firmware update status appears on the Update in Progress screen.
The printer control panel also shows the firmware update status. You will see a message An authorized user is making changes to this device, Please wait....
Note: Do not close the window or interrupt the printer while it upgrades. - To close the window when the firmware version upgrade is complete, click Finish.
- At the Would you like to exit? message, click Yes.
USB Cable Instructions
- To perform an upgrade using a USB cable, select the USB Port, then click Next.
The Firmware update status appears on the Update in Progress screen.
The printer control panel also shows the firmware update status. You will see a message An authorized user is making changes to this device, Please wait....
Note: Do not close the window or interrupt the printer while it upgrades. - To close the window when the firmware version upgrade is complete, click Finish.
- At the Would you like to exit? message, click Yes.
The printer reboots when the upgrade is completed, and a Software Upgrade Report prints.
