Shelly Pro EM-50: Single-Phase Energy Meter User and Safety Guide
This document provides essential technical and safety information for the Shelly Pro EM-50 energy meter.
Product Introduction
Shelly® devices are innovative microprocessor-managed devices for remote control of electric circuits via mobile phone, tablet, PC, or home automation systems. They can operate standalone on a local Wi-Fi network or through cloud services. Shelly Cloud offers access via Android/iOS apps or web browsers at https://control.shelly.cloud/. Devices can be accessed remotely with internet connectivity. An embedded web interface is available at http://192.168.33.1 (or device IP) for monitoring and control.
Shelly® devices support direct communication with other Wi-Fi devices via HTTP. An API is available from Shelly Europe Ltd. at https://shelly-api-docs.shelly.cloud/#shelly-family-overview.
Firmware updates are provided free of charge by Shelly Europe Ltd. to maintain conformity and security. Users are solely responsible for installing these updates.
Shelly® Pro Series
The Shelly® Pro series is designed for homes, offices, retail stores, and manufacturing facilities. These devices are DIN rail mountable within breaker boxes, making them suitable for new construction. They support Wi-Fi and LAN connections for control and monitoring, with Bluetooth available for inclusion.
The Shelly Pro EM-50 is a DIN rail mountable, single-phase, dual-channel energy meter with a dry contact relay for contactor control. It reports accumulated energy, voltage, current, and power factor in real-time and stores data for at least 60 days with 1-minute resolution.
Schematic and Terminals

Device Terminals:
- O: Relay output
- I: Relay input
- IA: Current transformer A (CTA) input
- IB: Current transformer B (CTB) input
- N: Neutral terminal
- L: Live (100-260 VAC) terminal
Cables:
- N: Neutral cable
- L: Live (100-260 VAC) cable
Installation Instructions
⚠ CAUTION! Danger of electrocution. Installation must be performed by a qualified electrician.
⚠ CAUTION! Ensure no voltage is present at device terminals before making connections.
⚠ CAUTION! Use only with compliant power grids and appliances. Short circuits may damage the device.
⚠ CAUTION! Do not connect to appliances exceeding the maximum load.
⚠ CAUTION! Connect only as shown. Other methods may cause damage or injury.
⚠ CAUTION! Do not install where the device can get wet.
⚠ CAUTION! Plug/unplug LAN cable only when the device is powered off. Ensure LAN cable is not metallic where touched.
Recommendation: Use solid single-core cables or stranded cables with ferrules. Cables should have insulation with increased heat resistance (min. PVC T105°C / 221°F).
⚠ CAUTION! The device and load circuit must be secured by a cable protection switch compliant with EN60898-1 (tripping characteristic B or C, max. 2 A rated current, min. 6 kA interrupting rating, energy limiting class 3).
Installation Steps:
- Ensure breakers are off and no voltage is present at terminals.
- Install current transformer CTA around the load circuit cable and CTB around another load circuit cable, following Fig. 1.
- Mount the Device onto the DIN rail.
- Connect CTA and CTB cables to IA and IB input connectors respectively.
- Connect the Live cable through a circuit breaker to the L terminal.
- Connect the Neutral cable to the N terminal.
- Verify all connections are correct, then turn on the circuit breakers.
Initial Inclusion
For use with Shelly Smart Control app and cloud service, refer to the mobile application guide. The device can also be used standalone or with other home automation platforms.
⚠ CAUTION! Keep devices for remote control (phones, tablets, PCs) away from children. Do not allow children to play with connected buttons/switches.
