Wiring Diagrams Description
The Shelly EM Gen3 requires specific wiring for power and monitoring. It features terminals for mains power input, load output, and CT clamp connections.
Diagram 1: Basic Wiring (No Load Output)
This diagram illustrates the basic connection of the Shelly EM Gen3 to the power supply and two CT clamps. The device itself is powered via the 'L' (Live) and 'N' (Neutral) input terminals. Two CT clamps are connected to the 'CT1' and 'CT2' terminals respectively. This configuration is typically used for monitoring the total consumption of a panel or a specific circuit without directly switching the load through the device.
- L (Input): Connect the Live wire from the power source.
- N (Input): Connect the Neutral wire from the power source.
- CT1: Connect the wires of the first CT clamp.
- CT2: Connect the wires of the second CT clamp.
- L_out: Terminal for the Live wire of the load (if switching is used, not shown in this basic diagram).
- N_out: Terminal for the Neutral wire of the load (if switching is used, not shown in this basic diagram).
Diagram 2: Wiring with CT Clamps
This diagram shows the Shelly EM Gen3 connected to the power supply and two CT clamps, with the load connected through the device's output terminals. This allows for monitoring and potential control of the connected load.
- L (Input): Connect the Live wire from the power source.
- N (Input): Connect the Neutral wire from the power source.
- CT1: Connect the wires of the first CT clamp, clamped around the live wire supplying the load.
- CT2: Connect the wires of the second CT clamp, clamped around another live wire (e.g., for a second load or circuit).
- L_out: Connect the Live wire going to the load.
- N_out: Connect the Neutral wire going to the load.
The CT clamps measure the current flowing through the live wires they are clamped around.
Diagram 3: Wiring with CT Clamps and Power Supply (100-260V AC)
This diagram explicitly shows the device receiving power from a 100-260V AC source via the 'L' and 'N' input terminals. Two CT clamps are connected to 'CT1' and 'CT2' terminals, and the load is connected to 'L_out' and 'N_out'. This is a common setup for monitoring a main power feed and potentially a sub-circuit.
- Power Input (L): Connect the Live wire from the mains supply (100-260V AC).
- Power Input (N): Connect the Neutral wire from the mains supply.
- CT1: Connect the first CT clamp, clamped around the live wire of the circuit to be monitored.
- CT2: Connect the second CT clamp, clamped around the live wire of another circuit to be monitored.
- L_out: Connect the Live wire to the load.
- N_out: Connect the Neutral wire to the load.
The diagram visually represents the device powered by the mains and monitoring current via the CT clamps.

Installation Instructions
Follow these steps carefully to install your Shelly EM Gen3:
- Disconnect Power: Before starting installation, ensure that the main power supply to the circuit where the Shelly EM Gen3 will be installed is switched OFF at the breaker. Verify that the power is off using a voltage tester.
- Mount the Device: Securely mount the Shelly EM Gen3 onto a standard 35mm DIN rail in your electrical panel or enclosure.
- Connect Power Input: Connect the Live (L) and Neutral (N) wires from your power source to the corresponding input terminals on the Shelly EM Gen3. Ensure these connections are firm and properly insulated.
- Connect Load Output: If you intend to control or monitor a load through the device, connect the Live wire of the load to the 'L_out' terminal and the Neutral wire of the load to the 'N_out' terminal.
- Connect CT Clamps:
- Clamp the first CT clamp around the Live wire of the circuit you wish to monitor (e.g., the main incoming live wire or the live wire of a specific appliance). Ensure the arrow on the CT clamp points in the direction of current flow (from source to load).
- Connect the wires of the first CT clamp to the 'CT1' terminals on the Shelly EM Gen3.
- If using a second CT clamp, repeat the clamping process for another live wire and connect its wires to the 'CT2' terminals.
- Ensure the CT clamp wires are not damaged and are securely connected.
- Restore Power: Once all connections are verified and secured, turn the main power supply back ON.
- Configure Device: Power on the Shelly EM Gen3. It will attempt to connect to your Wi-Fi network. Use the Shelly Smart Control app to complete the setup, name the device, and configure monitoring settings.
