Instrument Set-up

Introduction

Read the safety instructions and this user manual carefully before first use. Ensure all users understand and adhere to the provided directions.

Symbols Used:

  • ⚠️WARNING: Indicates a potentially hazardous situation that, if not avoided, could result in death or serious injury.
  • ⚠️CAUTION: Indicates a potentially hazardous situation that, if not avoided, may result in minor injury and/or appreciable material, financial, and environmental damage.
  • ℹ️Important: Paragraphs that must be followed for correct and efficient use of the product.

Insert Batteries

Use high-quality Alkaline batteries. Replace batteries when the battery symbol flashes. The device requires 2 x AAA batteries.

Switching ON/OFF

Press the ON/DIST button briefly to switch the device ON. Press and hold the CLEAR/OFF button for 2 seconds to switch the device OFF.

Clear Function

  • A short press on CLEAR/OFF undoes the last action.
  • A longer press (2x) exits the current function and returns to the default operation mode.

Message Codes

If a message code (e.g., "i 255") appears, consult the 'Message Codes' section for details.

Adjusting Measuring Reference

The device can measure from the front or the rear. To set the measuring reference to the front, press and hold the ON/DIST button for 2 seconds. The standard setting is measuring from the rear.

Multifunctional Endpiece

The orientation of the endpiece is automatically detected, and the zero point is adjusted accordingly. This is useful for measuring from corners or edges.

Unit Setting

Press the '+' and '-' buttons simultaneously for 2 seconds to cycle through available units such as meters (m), feet (ft), and inches (in).

Beep Setting

Press the FUNC and Bluetooth® buttons simultaneously for 2 seconds to toggle the beep sound ON or OFF.

Operations

Measuring Single Distance

  1. Aim the active laser at the target surface.
  2. Press the ON/DIST button.
  3. The measured distance (e.g., 8.532 m) is displayed.

ℹ️ Measuring time may increase on dark surfaces. Measuring errors can occur on colourless liquids, glass, styrofoam, or highly reflective surfaces.

Permanent / Minimum-Maximum Measuring

Press and hold the ON/DIST button for 2 seconds to start continuous measurement. The device displays the minimum and maximum measured values. This is useful for measuring room diagonals or horizontal distances. Press ON/DIST again to stop.

Add / Subtract

  1. Perform an initial measurement (e.g., 7.332 m).
  2. Press the '+' button to add the next measurement to the previous one, or press the '-' button to subtract it. The result is shown in the main line.

This function can also be used for adding or subtracting areas or volumes. Press DIST to display the final result.

Area Calculation

  1. Aim the laser at the first target point.
  2. Aim the laser at the second target point.
  3. Press the FUNC button.
  4. Aim the laser at the third target point (for wall area).
  5. Press the FUNC button again to get the final area result (e.g., 24.352 m²).

The Painter function allows adding or subtracting wall lengths during area measurement by using the '+' or '-' buttons.

Volume Calculation

  1. Aim the laser at the first target point (length).
  2. Aim the laser at the second target point (width).
  3. Aim the laser at the third target point (height).
  4. Press the FUNC button.

The calculated volume (e.g., 80.208 m³) and wall area are displayed.

Memory (Last 10 Results)

The last 10 measurement results are stored. Press the memory/navigation buttons (+/-) to scroll through these values.

Delete Memory

Press the FUNC and Bluetooth® buttons simultaneously for 2 seconds to completely delete all stored measurements.

Timer (Automatic Release)

Set the delay for automatic release by pressing the '+' button (adjustable from 5 to 60 seconds). Once the button is released, a countdown appears, which is useful for precise aiming and avoiding device shake during measurement.

Pythagoras (2-point)

Measure two points to calculate a third dimension (e.g., height):

  1. Aim the laser at the upper point.
  2. Aim the laser at the lower point.
  3. Press the FUNC button.

The result is displayed. Holding the measuring key for 2 seconds activates Minimum or Maximum measurement.

Pythagoras (3-point)

Measure three points to calculate a third dimension:

  1. Aim the laser at the upper point.
  2. Aim the laser at the rectangular point.
  3. Aim the laser at the lower point.
  4. Press the FUNC button.

The result is displayed. Holding the measuring key for 2 seconds activates Minimum or Maximum measurement.

Stake Out Function

  1. Set the desired stake-out distance using the +/- buttons (e.g., 0.625 m).
  2. Press the ON/DIST button to approve the value and start measurement.
  3. Move the device slowly along the stake-out line. The device will beep when the target distance is reached. The distance to the next stake-out point is displayed.

ℹ️ When approaching a stake-out point to less than 0.1 m, the instrument starts to beep. The function can be stopped by pressing the CLEAR/OFF button.

Bluetooth® Smart

Activate or deactivate Bluetooth® by pressing the Bluetooth® button. Measurement values are automatically transferred to connected devices (smartphones, tablets, laptops) via apps like DISTO™ sketch. Bluetooth® switches off when the device is turned off. The device uses Bluetooth® standard V4.0 and is compatible with Bluetooth® Smart Ready devices.

ℹ️ Leica provides no warranty or support for free DISTO™ software. Use of third-party software is at the user's own risk.
