1. Introduction
1.1 Important Information
It is suggested to use a roof top aerial for the initial scan for TV channels. If a signal is detected, channel information will be saved on your computer. You can then switch to the supplied portable antenna and change location to find the best reception spot.
The included portable antenna is suitable only for areas with very strong signal reception. For reliable reception, especially if living far from a transmitter or in areas with obstructions, a roof top aerial is strongly recommended.
Reception quality may be affected by factors such as proximity to transmitters, tall buildings, thick walls, ceilings, and weather conditions.
Notes:
- This product is portable but not suitable for use when travelling at high speeds.
- When using scheduled recording or time shifting, ensure sufficient hard disk space.
- Improper operation may cause system instability. Follow the user manual and suggested setup. Close all related applications before removing the device.

5. Frequently Asked Questions
5.1 I cannot find any channels after the auto scan.
- Please check the status of the Freeview switchover in your area.
- If you have been unable to use a rooftop aerial, try repositioning the mini-antenna and rescanning, perhaps near a window or on a metal surface, to improve reception strength.
- Ensure the aerial is properly attached to the device.
- Verify that the correct country is selected in the Total Media scan settings.
- Re-scanning with an updated rooftop aerial may help locate the required Freeview signal settings.
5.2 I do not have a roof top aerial, can I use a portable aerial?
You can connect a portable aerial, but a rooftop aerial is advised for the best results.
5.3 The device gets perfect pictures when plugged into my roof top aerial, but no picture at all using the small antenna provided.
The included portable antenna is suitable only for areas with very strong Freeview signal. While some households with a strong signal might be able to use a set-top aerial, reception can still be unreliable. Freeview strongly recommends using a rooftop aerial for good reception. Reception may be affected by proximity to transmitters, tall buildings, thick walls, ceilings, and weather.
5.4 The TV picture keeps freezing and/or some TV channels are missing.
Possible reasons for poor Freeview reception include:
- Local factors such as proximity to transmitters, tall buildings, thick walls, ceilings, and weather.
- A booster may be useful to improve signal strength. If your rooftop aerial is split to serve multiple TVs/Videos, this can weaken the signal.
- If your aerial is old, it may need updating or may have been damaged by weather.
- In some areas, Freeview signals use different frequencies or transmitters than those used for analogue reception.
- Using a set-top aerial may cause difficulties in some regions. As mentioned on the Freeview website, reception can be unreliable even in areas with strong signals, so a rooftop aerial is recommended.
For more information, please visit www.freeview.co.uk/help.
5.5 The Teletext function does not work.
This device is designed for the European standard of digital broadcasting. The UK uses a slightly different broadcast signal, which means Teletext is not available on this unit and is not marketed for the UK.
5.6 There is no light on the device, is it faulty?
There is no operational light on this device. The small window is the IR receiver used by the remote control.
5.7 I can get pictures but no sound.
Please check that your sound card is properly installed and that the volume settings are correct.
5.8 Remote control does not working
- Go to your computer's Control Panel, select "System" -> "Hardware" -> "Device Manager". Check if "Infrared Receiver" is installed. If not, it may show a warning symbol "?". Try reinstalling the driver.
- Check the remote control's battery.
- Ensure you are within 5 meters of the USB TV Receiver and have a clear line of sight.
- The remote control relies on direct line of sight. Ensure nothing obstructs the path between the remote and the USB stick.
- Windows Vista or 7 users can use Windows Media Centre. However, the supplied remote control is designed for Total Media and will not work with Windows Media Centre or other software.
5.9 The TV sometimes freezes or slows down
Freezing while watching TV often indicates a system resource problem, typically when the PC does not meet the recommended system requirements or if the VGA driver is not properly installed or updated. It is also recommended to close all other programs while watching or recording TV.
