Model 2/77 Ultimate High-Current 12-Volt Power Source for Car Audio

Installation and Operation Instructions

The Audio Authority 2/77 is the world's first DC power system engineered specifically for the car audio display environment. Its robust thermal design incorporates an updraft forced-air cooling system to withstand various harsh environments, including vented (intake & exhaust) and display interiors. Sophisticated monitoring and protection circuits ensure years of unattended, trouble-free service. Its unique "loadsharing" circuitry allows two Model 2/77s to be connected to provide 100 amps continuous output, a feature not available with conventional DC power supplies.

Installation Preparation

The Model 2/77 should be located in a well-ventilated area close to the auto sound display. DO NOT OPERATE THE MODEL 2/77 IN A SMALL, NON-VENTED SPACE. DO NOT OBSTRUCT ANY AIR OPENINGS ON TOP, SIDES, OR REAR. If positioning the 2/77 farther from the display than provided cables allow, use larger gauge cables for optimum performance. For a complete and safe DC Distribution System, use Model 915X and 916X DC Power Expanders (available separately) to wire DC power to car audio products.

Battery Selection

Standard, side terminal, maintenance-free, automotive starting batteries rated at least 320 Cold Crank Amps (CCA) are suitable for use with the Hybrid DC Power System.

Deep cycle marine, golf cart, and industrial battery types should not be used as they may cause battery overcharging and reduced battery life. These battery types are not recommended for audio system use due to high internal resistance, which degrades amplifier performance. Consult the factory prior to using batteries other than the recommended types.

Caution: Automotive batteries store extreme levels of energy. Do not connect battery posts together. Always connect the positive (+) terminal first. Always use standard automotive batteries in an upright position.

NOTE: When using the Model 2/77 in Hybrid mode (with battery), the Model 2/77 must remain on at all times to maintain battery charge level. Failure to leave the power supply on will result in greatly reduced battery life and loss of audio performance. Should an AC power failure occur, the power supply will disconnect from the battery automatically.

Installation – Single Mode

Connect the red wire (furnished) from the red post [+] on the front panel of the Model 2/77 to the positive battery terminal using the provided battery post and wing nut.

Connect the black wire (furnished) from the black post [-] on the front panel of the Model 2/77 to the negative battery terminal using the provided battery post and wing nut.

Diagram Description: A wiring diagram shows a single Model 2/77 unit. A red wire connects the positive [+] terminal on the 2/77's front panel to the positive battery terminal. A black wire connects the negative [-] terminal on the 2/77's front panel to the negative battery terminal. A second set of red and black cables connects the battery to a Model 916X DC Distribution Module.

Using a second set of red and black cables, connect the battery to the closest DC distribution board (916X) or other distribution system.

Diagram Description: A second wiring diagram shows the connection from the battery to a Model 916X DC Distribution Module using a set of red and black cables.

Note: If furnished cables are not used, use cables of equal or greater gauge.

Installation – Dual Mode

Connect both Model 2/77s to the battery as stated previously in the single installation instructions.

Due to the AC power requirements of two units, two separate AC circuits may be required to prevent tripping building circuit breakers.

Diagram Description: A wiring diagram illustrates the dual mode connection. Two Model 2/77 units are connected to a single battery. Cables connect both 2/77 units to the battery terminals. The units are also shown connecting to a Model 916X DC Distribution Module.

Front Panel Indicators

All hook-up terminals are conveniently located on the 2/77's front panel. The front panel also includes a series of diagnostic LED indicators. The following information helps in understanding the indicators:
