Getting to Know Your Russell Hobbs® 10-Cup Coffee Maker

Product may vary slightly from illustrations.

The coffee maker features the following components:

Before You Use Your Coffee Maker

Before preparing coffee, thoroughly clean the Carafe, Carafe Lid, and Removable Cone Filter Basket in hot, sudsy water. Rinse and dry. Replace disassembled parts. Clean the inside of the Coffee Maker by brewing two full Carafes of tap water (refer to "Brewing Instructions").

NOTE: At the end of the first cycle, turn Coffee Maker OFF and wait ten minutes. Turn unit ON and brew a second Carafe of water.

Coffee Yield

This is a 10-Cup Coffee Maker, yielding 10 (5 oz.) cups. A 5 oz. cup is the American industry standard. To fill a mug, fill the reservoir with enough water for 2 cups (10 oz.).

Coffee Filters

Cone-shaped paper filters are available at grocery stores and appliance retailers. Standard #4 filters should be used. Basket-style paper filters are not recommended as they may not conform to the Filter Basket shape, potentially causing overflow during brewing.

Aroma Control Selector Dial

Use this dial to choose the strength of your brew, from lighter to stronger. The Aroma Control Selector Dial regulates the brewing process for optimal flavor. Selecting a stronger setting slows the water flow into the filter basket, promoting better saturation of grounds for a richer coffee flavor.

NOTE: Adjust the amount of coffee to suit your taste for stronger or milder coffee.

Brewing Instructions

  1. Plug the Coffee Maker into a 120V AC electrical outlet.
  2. Fill the Carafe with cold tap water and pour it into the Water Chamber. Water Window markings indicate the required water level for the desired number of cups. A minimum of two cups is recommended.
  3. NOTE: The amount of brewed coffee will be less than the water added, as approximately 10% is absorbed by coffee grounds and the filter.
  4. Place a #4 paper cone-shaped filter in the Removable Cone Filter Basket. Replace the basket in the Filter Basket Holder. Measure one level tablespoon of drip or regular grind coffee for each cup desired.
  5. Set the Aroma Control Selector Dial to your desired brew strength.
  6. Close the Lid.
  7. Place the Carafe on the Warming Plate.
  8. Switch the Power Button to ON [I].
  9. To serve coffee before the brew cycle is complete, remove the Carafe from the Warming Plate; dripping will cease. Return the Carafe within 60 seconds for dripping to resume.
  10. After the brew cycle finishes, wait about one minute for dripping to stop. Keep the Carafe Lid in place for safe serving and to maintain coffee temperature.
  11. To keep coffee hot, return the Carafe to the Warming Plate after serving. The Warming Plate cycles automatically to maintain ideal temperature while the Coffee Maker is ON.
  12. Switch the Coffee Maker to OFF [O] when the Carafe is empty or the unit is not in use.
  13. To brew another pot, turn the unit OFF and wait 10 minutes for the heating element to cool.

IMPORTANT: Failure to allow the unit to cool before repeated use may cause water in the Water Chamber to overheat, releasing steam and posing a burn risk.

Brewing a Second Pot of Coffee

Allow the Coffee Maker to cool for 10 minutes in the OFF [O] position between cycles. While cooling, dispose of used coffee grounds, rinse the Carafe, and discard the #4 filter. Repeat the brewing procedure.

User Maintenance Instructions

This appliance requires minimal maintenance and has no user-serviceable parts. Do not attempt self-repair. Any servicing requiring disassembly must be performed by a qualified appliance repair technician.

Care and Cleaning

CAUTION: Unplug the appliance before cleaning. To prevent electric shock, do not immerse the cord, plug, or unit in water or other liquids.

Ensure the Coffee Maker is unplugged and the Warming Plate is cool before cleaning. After daily use, wash the Carafe in hot, sudsy water. Wipe the exterior with a damp cloth for superficial stains. For stubborn stains, use a nylon or plastic pad with a non-abrasive cleanser. Do not use metal scouring pads or abrasive cleansers.

Descaling

Special cleaning is recommended at least monthly, depending on usage and water quality. If your water is hard, perform this procedure every two weeks, as minerals can affect flavor and brew time.

  1. Fill the Carafe with one part white vinegar to three parts cold water. Pour the solution into the Water Chamber.
  2. Place a clean #4 paper filter in the Removable Cone Filter Basket. Replace the basket in the holder and close the lid. Place the Carafe on the Warming Plate. Switch the Power Button to ON [I]. More steam may occur during cleaning than normal brewing.
  3. KEEP THE COFFEE MAKER ON UNTIL THE CARAFE IS HALF FULL. Switch the Power Button to OFF [O]. When dripping stops, remove the Carafe, let the liquid cool for 10 minutes, then pour it back into the Water Chamber.
  4. Return the Carafe to the Warming Plate.
  5. Switch the Power Button to ON [I]. Repeat the procedure, allowing all cleaning solution to empty into the Carafe. After dripping stops, discard the Carafe contents.
  6. After the Coffee Maker cools for 10 minutes, rinse it by brewing a Carafe full of cold water. Use a clean #4 paper filter before brewing.
  7. At the end of the brew cycle, switch the Power Button to OFF [O]. Discard the water. Wash the Carafe, Carafe Lid, and Removable Cone Filter Basket in hot, sudsy water. Dry parts.
  8. When the Coffee Maker has cooled, wipe the exterior with a dry cloth.
