Introduction
This operating manual contains important information and notes for the safe start-up and handling of the polishing machines DSM150PS and DSM200PS. It is crucial to read and understand this manual before operating the machine to ensure safety and prevent personal injury or property damage. Always observe the symbols and pictograms on the machine and the safety and hazard information provided.
Safety Information
General Safety Instructions:
- Always check the machine for completeness and proper function before use.
- Choose a level, vibration-free, and non-slip surface for installation.
- Ensure adequate space around the machine and sufficient lighting to avoid stroboscopic effects.
- Maintain a clean working environment and use only tools that are free of cracks and defects.
- Remove all tools and adjustment keys before switching on the machine.
- Keep the area around the machine clear of obstacles.
- Never leave the running machine unattended. Switch it off and secure it against unintentional restart when leaving the work area.
- Only persons familiar with the machine and its hazards should operate, maintain, or repair it.
- Ensure unauthorized persons maintain a safe distance and keep children away.
- Do not wear loose jewelry, clothing, ties, or long, open hair while working. Secure long hair under a hair covering.
- Wear close-fitting protective clothing and appropriate personal protective equipment (eye protection, dust mask, ear protection, work gloves).
- Always work with care and caution; never use excessive force.
- Do not overload the machine.
- Shut down and disconnect the machine from the power supply before any adjustment, cleaning, maintenance, or repair work. Ensure all parts have come to a complete standstill before starting work.
- Do not operate the machine when tired, not concentrated, or under the influence of medication, alcohol, or drugs.
Electrical Safety:
- Ensure the machine is properly earthed.
- Use only suitable extension cables and protect them from heat, oil, and sharp edges.
- In humid environments, the power source must be protected by a residual current circuit breaker.
- Protect yourself from electric shock and avoid contact with earthed parts.
- Replace any damaged cable immediately.
Special Safety Instructions for these Machines:
- Do not reach into the running machine.
- Do not brake the polishing wheel with your hand or other objects.
- Do not use the machine if the polishing wheel is damaged.
- Polishing dust may contain harmful chemicals; work only in well-ventilated rooms with a suitable dust mask.
- The machine must stand firmly on a stable, vibration-resistant base. For stationary operation, fix the machine to a workbench or machine stand.
Hazard Warnings:
- DANGER: Indicates an imminently hazardous situation that will result in death or serious injury if not avoided.
- WARNING: Indicates a potentially hazardous situation that could result in serious injury or death if not avoided.
- CAUTION: Indicates a potentially hazardous situation that could result in minor or moderate injury if not avoided.
- NOTICE: Indicates a potentially hazardous situation that could result in property damage if not avoided.

Operation
Checking Scope of Delivery: Note visible transport damage on the delivery note and check the machine immediately after unpacking for transport damage or missing/damaged parts. Report any damage to your retailer or freight forwarder.
Installation Site: The floor or worktable must support the machine's load. Select a flat, solid surface with adequate space. Consider the working area required for processing workpieces. The base has mounting holes for fixing to a workbench/machine stand (e.g., Holzmann DSMMS1) to prevent movement.
Operation Notes:
- After switching on, let the polishing wheels accelerate to full speed before polishing.
- Do not overload the machine; a loss of rotational speed indicates overload.
- Wear protective goggles when polishing.
- Check fixing screws and flange before each use; retighten if necessary.
Starting/Stopping the Machine: Use the ON/OFF switch. Press button (1) to turn on, and button (2) to turn off.
Polishing: The polishing wheels can be used for various metal alloys (stainless steel, steel, aluminum, brass) and also for wood or plastics. Processes include pre-polishing, polishing, and high-gloss polishing.
Cleaning, Maintenance, Storage, and Disposal
Cleaning:
- Regular cleaning is essential for safe operation and longevity.
- Keep surfaces and ventilation slots free of dust and dirt. Use a soft cloth, mild soap solution, and optionally compressed air.
- Do not use solvents, nitro thinners, or other harsh cleaning agents that could damage the paint.
Maintenance:
- The machine is low-maintenance.
- Rectify any malfunctions or defects that could impair safety immediately.
- Regularly check warning and safety labels.
- Use only perfect and suitable tools and original spare parts recommended by the manufacturer.
Maintenance and Servicing Plan:
Interval | Component | Action |
---|---|---|
Before every start of work | Polishing disc | Check for damage |
Power cord | ||
Each time after completion of work | Surfaces | Remove dust and dirt |
As required | Polishing disc | Replace |
Replacing Polishing Discs: Disconnect power before opening. Allow the machine to cool down. Fix the polishing disc, unscrew the nut and flange, remove the old disc, mount the new one, screw on the flange and nut, and test run for irregularities.
Storage: Store the machine in a dry, frost-proof, and lockable place to prevent rust and unauthorized access.
Disposal: Observe national waste disposal regulations. Never dispose of the machine or its components in residual waste. Contact local authorities for disposal options. Specialist dealers may be obligated to dispose of old machines.
Troubleshooting
General Warning: Disconnect the machine from the power supply before troubleshooting. Many errors can be avoided by proper connection to the mains. Consult a specialist if you cannot perform repairs or lack the required training.
Fault | Possible Cause | Remedy |
