Product Overview
The EKCO.M3 and EKCO.MN3 electric central heating boilers are designed for heating domestic spaces equipped with underfloor heating systems using water or antifreeze as the heat transfer medium. The boiler should be selected based on the building's thermal balance.
The boiler is a low-temperature type, operating in closed water heating systems with forced water circulation, compliant with PN-B-02414:1999. It can also operate in open water heating systems with forced water circulation, compliant with PN-B-02413:1991. The boiler operates in an automatic cycle with minimal operational duties.
Intended Use
The device is intended exclusively for domestic or similar use. Commercial or industrial use leading to excessive device operation is contrary to its intended purpose. Improper use or negligent handling voids the manufacturer's warranty. Improper use includes altering the intended function of the heating system components.
? Tip: The device is designed for domestic or similar use, meaning even untrained individuals can operate it safely.

Assembly and Installation
General Installation:
- Install the boiler vertically on a flat wall using fixing screws or the included bracket, with outlets facing downwards. Maintain minimum distances from walls and ceiling. Fasteners must be adapted to the substrate type, considering the device's weight.
- Connect the boiler to the central heating system equipped with shut-off valves. Valves should be located directly on the boiler.
- Fill the central heating system with water or antifreeze suitable for central heating systems, which significantly affects the heating elements' durability.
- Vent the central heating system.
- Connect the boiler to the electrical installation as described on page 9.
- Install and connect the room temperature sensor (Tr) and outdoor temperature sensor (Tos) as described on page 11.
- After completing the above steps, start the boiler, set the language and maximum boiler output, and perform pump venting [Configuration > Pump > CH venting / DHW venting].
- Set the maximum medium temperature in the installation [Configuration > Central heating > Max. boiler temp.].
- Adapt the boiler's operation to the building's heating system and user preferences – refer to the Settings and Configuration chapters.
Installation Notes:
The EKCO.MN3 boilers are equipped with a 5-liter expansion vessel (1.5 bar pressure). This vessel is sufficient for the following heating system capacities at given medium temperatures and central heating system pressures:
Heating Medium Temperature (°C) (Suction and Return) | Central Heating System Capacity [l] | Central Heating System Pressure [bar] |
---|---|---|
85/70 | 56 | 1.5 |
70/55 | 80 | |
55/45 | 127 | |
50/40 | 153 | |
45/35 | 188 |
If the liquid capacity of the central heating installation is larger, an additional expansion vessel must be installed according to the applicable standard.
Connecting the Boiler to the Central Heating System
Diagrams illustrating the connection of the boiler to the central heating system are provided, showing various components such as:
- PI - Manometer
- ZK - Shut-off valve
- RW - Expansion pipe
- NW - Integrated expansion vessel (EKCO.MN3)

Connecting External Control Signals
❗ Note: Do not connect any voltage to the FN, MA, RT, Tcyl, Tos, Tr inputs! This can cause permanent damage to the controller.
Input Symbol and Function:
- FN: External temperature change override or operating algorithm [Configuration > Entry FN]. Used to limit power when cooperating with other devices like an electric water heater.
- MA: For power limitation. An electrician must install an additional normally open contact in series with the MA input. When a main device is activated, the contact opens, deactivating the boiler and stopping the pump.
- RT: Optional room thermostat control. Activating the RT input [Configuration > Room temp. > Temp. sensor: RT] by short-circuiting the free contact enables central heating. Internal room controller functions (including timer) are deactivated. If the CH configuration is set to a heating curve, it will adjust to 22°C.
- Tcyl: DHW tank temperature sensor. Can be replaced by an external contact thermostat. Activate the external DHW thermostat [Configuration > DHW cylinder > Regulation: Tcyl Outside]. Short-circuiting the Tcyl input activates DHW heating. When an external DHW regulator is activated, built-in timer and temperature regulator functions are unavailable.
- Tos: Outdoor temperature sensor. Must be installed in a shaded area, on the north or northwest facade of the building, away from windows and fans.
- Tr: Room temperature sensor. Must be installed in a representative location in the room, away from radiators, windows, doors, and traffic routes.
RS485 Communication Bus
Diagrams show connections for the C.MI2 internet module, C.MG3 heating module, and cascade boiler systems.
❗ Note: Each device connected to the communication bus must have a unique identification number (except C.MI2). The maximum number of devices that can be parameterized in the system is 32.
Actuator Connections
- PUMP.C: Circulation pump for domestic hot water (DHW). Refer to diagrams and settings.
- TWV: Three-way valve connection. Depending on the actuator control type (SPDT or SPST), select the appropriate valve connection diagram and set the valve control accordingly [Configuration > DHW cylinder > Control: A-CH B-DHW / A-DHW B-CH].
Control Panel
The control panel consists of:
- [1] Display: Shows operating modes and parameters.
- [2] Navigation switch: Used to navigate through menus and select options.
- [3] Function switch: Used to select operating modes (standby, CH, DHW, CH+DHW).
Main Screen:
The main screen displays:
- Error indicator (ERR)
- Heating status (CH, DHW, buffer loading)
- Current time and date
- Room temperature
- Outdoor temperature
- DHW tank temperature
Error Indication: The boiler error is indicated by the ERR icon on the main screen. Pressing the navigation switch [2] displays the list of detected errors.
Heating Programs
The boiler allows for setting daily and weekly heating programs for both central heating (CH) and domestic hot water (DHW).
- CH Program: Allows setting up to 5 time periods per day for CH temperature control.
- Buffer Load Program: For buffer operation, allows setting up to 5 time periods for buffer charging.
- DHW Program: For DHW systems, allows setting up to 5 time periods for DHW temperature control.
Turbo Operation:
Turbo mode provides rapid heating by using maximum parameters until the set room temperature is reached. It can be activated automatically if the room temperature drops below a set threshold or manually via the quick modes menu. DHW priority can be disabled during Turbo operation.
Frost Protection:
The building frost protection function prevents significant cooling of the building. The CH system activates if the outdoor temperature drops below 2°C or the room temperature drops below 5°C. This function is deactivated if the boiler is controlled by an external room controller connected to the RT input.
