Installation Steps
Step 1: Printer Setup
Prepare the printer for setup. This may involve unpacking and placing it in its intended location.

Step 2: Tray Insertion
Insert the paper trays into the printer. Follow the visual guides for correct placement.

Step 3: Network Connection
If connecting to a network, connect the network cable now. CAUTION: Do not connect the USB cable at this stage. Note: Cables are not included with the printer.
Step 4: Power Connection and Startup
4.1 Connect Power: Connect the power cable between the printer and a grounded AC outlet.
4.2 Turn On Printer: Press the power button to turn on the printer.
4.3 Initial Setup: On the printer's control panel, follow the Initial Setup screen to set the language, location, date/time format, and other features.

Note for Network Printers: For advanced setup of network-connected printers, enter the printer's IP address in a web browser's address bar once the printer is ready. To find the IP address, select the Information button [i] on the control panel, then select the Ethernet icon.
CAUTION: Ensure your power source is adequate for the printer's voltage rating (100-127 Vac or 220-240 Vac, 50/60 Hz). Use only the provided power cable to prevent damage.
Step 5: USB Connection
The USB port is disabled by default and must be enabled from the printer control panel. Navigate to the Settings menu, then select General, Enable Device USB, and set it to Enabled.
For Windows: Do not connect the USB cable until prompted during the software installation in the next step. If a network cable was connected in Step 3, proceed to the next step.
For macOS: Connect the USB cable now.
Note: Cables are not included with the printer.

Step 6: Software Installation
Locate or download the software installation files.
Method 1: Download HP Easy Start (Windows and macOS clients)
- Go to 123.hp.com/laserjet and click Download.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to download and launch HP Easy Start, then follow the on-screen instructions to install the software.
Method 2: IT managed setup (Windows clients and servers only)
Visit hp.com/go/upd to download and install the HP Universal Print Driver.
