DNP WCM-Plus User Guide

This guide provides comprehensive instructions for using the DNP WCM-Plus device to enhance your wireless printing experience with DNP photo printers.

Introduction

What is WCM-Plus

The DNP WCM-Plus is a device that enables wireless printing to any of the current DNP printers. It supports printing from mobile devices (iPhone, iPad, Android), Windows PCs and Tablets, and Macs. Printing can be done using the direct printing feature (allowing cropping and basic editing), AirPrint®/IPP, Hot Folder, or FTP.

The WCM-Plus portal is accessed when a device is connected via hotspot or Ethernet, providing access to all controls and capabilities. When connected to a local Wi-Fi network, the WCM-Plus offers internet access to hotspot users and makes printers available to all devices on the same network.

The WCM-Plus offers high speed and features like Print Borders, Basic Editing Capability, Hot Folder & FTP Printing. It can connect multiple DNP printers simultaneously, offering various print sizes.

Getting Started

Quick Start

1. Plug in and power on your DNP printer. Ensure media is loaded and no error lights are present.

2. Connect the WCM-Plus to your DNP printer using the provided USB printer cable. Any of the three USB ports can be used.

3. Connect the WCM-Plus to its power supply using the provided 5V3A USB-C power adapter. (Note: The QW410 printer's USB-A port outputs 5V2A, which is insufficient; use the provided 5V3A adapter.)

4. Once booted, the WCM-Plus will print a test page containing the hotspot SSID, connected printer info, and a QR code for the WCMPlus Portal.

Connect to the WCM-Plus Hotspot

You can connect to the WCM-Plus hotspot from an iPhone, iPad, Android, Windows, or Mac device. Use the QR code from the test print or navigate to your Wi-Fi settings and select the SSID:

  • SSID: WCMPlus-xxx (where 'xxx' is unique to your device)
  • Password: dnp12345

Note: The SSID and password can be changed in Network Settings. It is crucial to store your password securely as recovery is difficult.

The first connection requires acknowledging and agreeing to the End User License Agreement (EULA).

Printing

WCM Print

Follow these steps for iOS devices (Android/Windows may differ slightly):

Note: If using cloud storage, the WCM-Plus must be connected to the internet via Wi-Fi or Ethernet. Otherwise, download photos before connecting to the hotspot.

  1. Access the WCM-Plus portal by scanning the WCMPlus Portal QR code or by entering 192.168.4.1 in a web browser.
  2. Navigate to the Printers menu (or tap the menu bars in the upper left corner) and select WCM Print.
  3. Tap '+Select Images', choose your photos, and tap 'Add'.
  4. Select the desired print size from the dropdown above the preview.
  5. Choose the number of copies.
  6. Refer to the 'Image Editing' section for crop/edit features.
  7. Tap 'Print'.

AirPrint®/IPP

  1. Open a photo from your gallery.
  2. Tap the Share icon (iOS) or Menu icon (Android).
  3. Select 'Print' from the menu, then choose the desired printer and print size.
  4. Tap 'Print'.

Wired Printing

For printing from mobile devices via a wired connection, an Ethernet adapter compatible with your device is required. Connect an Ethernet cable from the WCM-Plus to the mobile device with the adapter. This allows printing via WCM Print or AirPrint®/IPP.

Note: This method is for FTP file transfer over a Wired LAN and not for internet connectivity.

The WCM Plus portal IP address will change to 192.168.5.1 during a wired LAN connection and reverts to 192.168.4.1 when disconnected. This is beneficial for photobooth operators where Wi-Fi may be unreliable.

Print Queue

The print queue displays the last ten images sent for printing. It indicates if a print is processing, has completed, or failed. Re-prints can be made by tapping the printer icon on a thumbnail. To clear an image, tap the trash can icon.

Note: If 'Archive Images' is enabled, deleting from the print queue does not remove images from the archive.

Known Issues

Blank Prints from Apple device

AirPrint may cause blank prints. Using WCM Print is the recommended solution. If AirPrint is preferred, prevent blank prints by:

  • Opening an image from the Apple Gallery.
  • Tapping 'Edit' in the Gallery.
  • Selecting the crop tool.
  • Choosing an aspect ratio from the provided table.

White Borders from Apple Device

HEIC format images may cause white borders due to improper cropping. Address this by:

  1. Setting camera to 'Most Compatible' (JPEG format).
  2. Resizing images to the correct print size within WCM Print's edit feature. Use the crop tool for specific aspect ratios (e.g., 4:6 for portrait) or the resize tool for custom pixel dimensions (e.g., 5x7 print = 1500x2100 pixels). The lock icon can unlock aspect ratio for manual entry. Native phone gallery tools can also be used.

Aspect ratios:

SizeRatio
4x62:3
5x75:7
6x83:4
6x92:3
8x104:5
8x122:3
Square1:1
