Installation Steps for the Driver
- If necessary, run the provided uninstaller to remove any previous versions of the driver.
- Disconnect the printer from the USB port.
- Download the Driver package from the DNP website to your desktop or Download folder.
- Double-click the DNP Mac Printer Driver DMG or Zip file-set package to access the compressed files.
- Double-click the DNP Printer Driver PKG file to begin the driver installation. Follow the on-screen instructions.
After Driver Installation
- Plug the printer into the USB port and turn it on.
- Wait for the printer to be added automatically (approximately one minute). Do NOT use the '+' sign to add the printer.
- Ensure the print output size is set correctly for your printer media combination. The OS default is Letter size.
- The driver install script sets up default DNP ICC color profiles. Change ICC profiles using the OS ColorSync app if desired.
Un-Installing the Driver
- Disconnect the printer from the computer.
- Run the UN-Install program provided in the driver package and follow the instructions. The uninstaller removes all DNP printers and driver files for all users.
- Individual DNP printers can be removed via Apple System Preferences: Printers & Scanners.
Known Operational Issues
- Printing presets may not save all settings correctly. Verify settings for each print job.
- White borders function of the Mac print command is not functional for most print sizes. Use a photo editing app to create white borders if needed.
- The Test Print function of the Mac print spooler does not function for several printer models; all printers will print digital images.
- Printer pooling is not supported from OS 10.9.4 unless iSerial is enabled in the printer.
- Cut sizes produced with the DS-80 Duplex may end with an error; power cycle the printer twice to clear.
iSerial USB Support in DNP Printers iSerial Utility
For proper operation of DNP photo printers on Mac OS-X, the iSerial functions of the printer should be enabled. DNP provides a software utility app to enable, verify, and change the state of the iSerial function. This tool supports DS-620 and DS-620A printers (firmware v1.10+) and RX1 (firmware v2.04+). Newer printers may have iSerial factory installed.
Printers with iSerial disabled or without iSerial functionality may experience mis-operation, such as only one DNP printer being connectable at a time to a Mac.
iSerial Function Info
- Printer Offline Issue: A printer may show as 'Offline' in Mac OS but still be functional. Printing from the Print dialog should still work. Enabling the iSerial function corrects this.
- Multiple Printers: OS-X 10.9.4 and above does not support multiple printers of the same make and model without iSerial enabled.
Fix: Enable the iSerial function to correct these conditions. With iSerial enabled, multiple printers and/or different DNP models can be connected simultaneously (e.g., DS-820(A) and DS620(A) or RX1HS or QW410).
Other Known Limitations
- Due to Mac OS design, the image preview in the printer panel may not reflect color adjustments made within the driver.
- The printer defaults to US Letter size. Confirm the proper paper size before printing.
- This driver is confirmed to work on OS-12 Monterey, OS-11 Big Sur, and OS-10 Catalina. Older OS versions may have limitations.
- The 2-inch cut is not supported on 4x6 multi-page operations on 6x8 media. For 4up 2x6 prints on a 6x8 panel, print as a 6x8 image.
- When using multi-cut combo size function, the image canvas is cut to multi-cut sizes. Application software handles image layout on the full canvas.
- Some Mac computers exhibit slow job spooling. Performing an HDD diagnostic scan and repair may help.
