- Step 1: Prepare and Load the Dishwasher
See Key Usage Tips for loading information. - Step 2: Add Detergent and Rinse Aid
See Key Usage Tips for detergent and rinse aid information. - Step 3: Check that All Arms Spin Freely
Ensure items in the rack do not block the spray arms. - Step 4: Select a Cycle and Options
Cycles and options vary by model. Consult the online Cycle and Options Guide for details. - Step 5: Start or Resume a Cycle
IMPORTANT: Select Start/Resume ▶️ each time the door is opened, even during a delay. Close door firmly within 4 seconds if the button is on top. Run hot water at the nearest sink until hot before starting.
Cycle Guide
This guide covers multiple models; your dishwasher may not have all described cycles and options. To repeat the previous cycle and options, select Start twice.
Cycle | Description |
---|---|
Heavy | For hard-to-clean, heavily soiled pots, pans, casseroles, and regular tableware. Includes a heated drying option. |
Normal | Recommended for daily use to wash and dry a full load of normally soiled dishes. This cycle was used for government energy certifications with only the Heat Dry option selected. |
1-Hr Wash | Cleans dishes quickly using slightly more water and energy. Select a heated drying option for improved drying. Note: Some detergents are not recommended for short cycles. |
Note: Efficient dishwashers run longer to save water and energy. Typical cycle time is approximately 2.5 hours but can vary. Adding options may increase cycle time.

Key Usage Tips
Prepare and Load the Dishwasher
IMPORTANT: Remove leftover food, bones, toothpicks, and hard items from dishes. Remove labels from containers. Upper and lower racks may vary by model.
- Ensure no items block the detergent dispenser when the door is closed.
- Load items with soiled surfaces facing down and inward towards the spray arms for better cleaning and drying. Angle dirtiest surfaces downward.
- Avoid overlapping items like bowls or plates that can trap food.
- Place plastics, small plates, and glasses in the upper rack. Wash only items marked "dishwasher safe."
- To prevent thumping noises, load dishes so they do not touch. Secure lightweight items.
- Use silverware basket slots for separation. If needed, remove covers and mix silverware types. Place sharp items pointing down and avoid nesting.
Diagrams show proper loading for the upper rack, lower rack, and silverware basket.
Add Detergent
High-quality premeasured tablets and packs are recommended for improved performance and to reduce filming. They are suitable for all water hardness and soil levels. Always place premeasured detergents in the main compartment and close the lid.
Note: Follow package instructions for other detergent types (powders, liquids, gels). Use automatic dishwasher detergent only. Store detergent tightly closed in a cool, dry place.

Add Rinse Aid
Rinse aid is essential for good drying performance, preventing spots and streaks. Check the rinse aid indicator. Add rinse aid to the dispenser by opening the cap (twist 1/4 turn clockwise or lift edge) until the indicator shows 'Full'. Close the cap securely by turning to 'Lock' ?.
If drying performance is poor, try a higher setting on the adjuster.
Diagrams show rinse aid dispenser indicators (Full/Add) and how to fill it.
Filtration System (On some models)
IMPORTANT: Operate the dishwasher only with filters properly installed. Ensure the lower filter is secure and the upper filter assembly is locked. This system minimizes sound and optimizes water usage and cleaning performance.
Diagram shows the upper filter assembly and lower filter.
Top Rack Adjuster (On some models)
Adjust the top rack height to fit tall items. To raise ⬆️ or lower ⬇️ the rack, press both rack adjuster thumb levers simultaneously and lift or slide the rack to the desired position until it is level.
Diagrams illustrate how to raise and lower the top rack.
Follow the Progress of Your Dishwasher
The 'Clean' indicator light glows when a cycle is finished.
Diagram shows cycle progress indicators 1-4 and the 'Clean' indicator.
Energy Efficiency
Energy efficiency is achieved by extending cycle times and reducing water and wattage usage. Longer cycles with soak and pauses provide exceptional cleaning. Efficient dishwashers run longer to save water and energy, similar to how slower driving saves fuel.
Your first cycle may run longer for optical water sensor calibration.
Recommended Detergent
Due to restrictions on phosphorus (phosphates) in household dishwasher detergents in the US and Canada, manufacturers have reformulated detergents. For convenience and improved performance, it is recommended to use tablets and packs.
