Child Safety

Proper Television Placement Matters:

  • Always support televisions on proper stands or install according to manufacturer recommendations.
  • Avoid placing televisions on furniture that could lead to tipping, such as dressers, bookcases, shelves, or carts.
  • Never allow children to climb on or play on the television or its supporting furniture.
  • Never place the TV on furniture that can be easily used as steps.
  • Always install the TV where it cannot be pushed, pulled over, or knocked down.

Wall or Ceiling Mount Your Television:

  • Consult your retailer for professional installation if unsure.

  • DTV / Analog TV / CATV: Select broadcast channels (digital, analog, cable, satellite).
  • Information Display: View program title, contents, and other information.
  • Auto Scan: Automatically scans and memorizes available channels.
  • Child Lock: Blocks access to inappropriate programs.
  • Closed Caption Decoder: Displays text for programs with closed captions.
  • MTS / SAP Tuner: Select audio modes or languages.
  • Auto Standby: Unit enters standby mode after 15 minutes of inactivity or no signal.
  • Sleep Timer: Set the unit to go into standby mode after a specified time.
  • On-Screen Language: Select display language (English, Spanish, French).
  • Stereo Sound Function: PLL frequency synthesized tuning for easy channel selection.

Screws: Model 24PFL3603 uses 2 x ST3 x 0.551" (14 mm) screws.

Installing the Stands

Fasten the stands to the TV using 2 screws. Hold the stand to prevent it from falling while fastening. Ensure both stands are securely fastened.

Notes: Use a stable table that can support the unit's weight and is larger than the unit. A Phillips-head screwdriver is required. Ensure screws are tightly fastened to prevent the unit from falling.

Installing the Remote Control Batteries

  1. Slide the battery cover off the back of the remote control.
  2. Insert two AAA (1.5V) batteries, ensuring correct polarity (+/-).
  3. Slide the cover back into position.

Note: Remove batteries if the remote will not be used for an extended period.

Remote Control

The remote control features buttons for various functions:

  • Power [B]: Turns the TV on or puts it into standby mode.
  • HDMI-CEC Keys: Play, Pause, Resume, Stop, Fast Forward/Backward, Skip Chapter/Track. (Requires CEC to be enabled on the TV and connected device).
  • SLEEP: Sets the sleep timer.
  • HOME [Q]: Displays the main menu.
  • SAP: Selects audio mode (Mono/Stereo/SAP) or language.
  • Color Buttons (Red, Green, Yellow, Blue): Used for on-screen prompts, often with HDMI-CEC.
  • INFO [T]: Displays information about the current program.
  • OK [OK]: Confirms selections or menu commands.
  • Navigation Buttons [H I J K]: Move cursor and select menu items.
  • FAVORITE: Accesses the Favorite List menu.
  • SOURCE: Selects connected input devices.
  • CH +/-: Selects channels.
  • Number Buttons (0-9): Enter channel numbers. Use with [.] for digital sub-channels (e.g., 11.1).
  • PREV.CH: Returns to the previously viewed channel.
  • Mute [V]: Turns sound on/off.
  • VOL +/-: Adjusts volume.
  • BACK [Y]: Returns to the previous menu.
  • FORMAT [R]: Adjusts picture aspect ratio.
  • CC: Displays closed captions.
  • SOUND: Accesses sound settings.
  • PICTURE: Accesses picture settings.

Control Panel

The TV's control panel includes:

  • Remote Control Sensor: Receives IR signals from the remote.
  • VOL +/-: Adjusts volume or moves cursor in menus.
  • CH +/-: Selects channels or moves cursor in menus. Holding CH + displays the main menu; holding CH - displays the source select menu.
  • Power/Standby [B]: Turns the TV on or puts it into standby mode.

Terminals

The TV features various input/output terminals:

  • Headphone Audio Output Jack: 3.5mm stereo jack for headphones.
  • Digital Audio Output Jack: S/PDIF output for digital audio systems.
  • Analog Audio (L/R) Input Jacks: Connect analog audio signals from various sources (HDMI-DVI, Component, Composite, PC).
  • Component (Y/Pb/Pr) / Composite Video Input Jacks: For video signals. The Composite VIDEO jack shares a pin with the Component Y jack.
  • HDMI Input Jack(s): For digital audio and video from devices like set-top boxes, Blu-ray players, or PCs.
  • 75 ohm Cable / Antenna Connection: For antenna, cable, or set-top box signal input.
  • USB Terminal: For connecting USB memory sticks to view JPEG photos. Do not connect other USB devices.

Connecting Antenna or Cable / Satellite Set-Top Box

Ensure all connections are made before plugging in the AC power cord.

  • Connecting to Antenna (RF Cable): Allows reception of free DTV programs.
  • Connecting Cable/Satellite Set-Top Box (RF Cable): Set TV to channel 3/4 or as specified by the provider.
  • Connecting Cable/Satellite Set-Top Box (HDMI Cable): Select the correct source using the SOURCE button.
  • Connecting Cable/Satellite Set-Top Box (Component Video Input): Select the correct component video source using the SOURCE button.

Connecting to Blu-ray Disc™ / DVD Recorder: Use composite connectors and analog audio cables. Avoid placing recorders too close to the screen.

Plugging in the AC Power Cord: Ensure all connections are complete before plugging in the AC power cord. The unit may perform initial operations for a few seconds after plugging in.

Selecting Your Connection Quality

  • HDMI - Highest Quality: Supports high-definition digital video and audio via a single cable.
  • Component (Y/Pb/Pr) - High Quality: Supports high-definition analog signals with separate video cables (red, green, blue) and audio cables (red, white).
  • Composite - Basic Quality: For analog connections, typically using a yellow video cable and red/white audio cables. Connect the yellow cable to the Y (green) jack on the component video input.

Connecting Your Devices

  • HDMI Digital Connection: Connects devices like set-top boxes, Blu-ray players, or game consoles for high-definition video and multi-channel audio.
  • HDMI-DVI Connection: Connects PCs with DVI terminals using an HDMI-DVI conversion cable and a separate stereo mini 3.5mm audio cable.

PC Input Video Signals: The TV supports various PC resolutions including VGA, SVGA, XGA, WXGA (up to 1366x768), and FHD (up to 1920x1080). Other formats may not display correctly.

USB Memory Stick Usage: Supports JPEG photo playback. Use compatible USB memory sticks (FAT16/FAT32). Do not use USB hubs or extension cables. Back up files before use. Avoid file names exceeding 128 characters or containing dots.

Component Analog Video Connection

Offers better picture quality for video devices. Connect analog audio cables to the L/R input jacks.

Digital Audio Output Connection

Connect to external digital audio devices using a digital audio optical cable for multi-channel audio.

Composite Analog Video Connection

Offers standard picture quality. Connect yellow video cable to the Y (green) jack and audio cables to L/R jacks. Disconnect Pb/Pr jacks if using composite.

Setup Wizard

Guides you through initial setup, including language selection and automatic channel scanning.

  1. Connect antenna/cable, then press the Power button [B]. The Setup Wizard menu appears automatically.
  2. Select Menu Language (English, Spanish, French).
  3. Proceed through steps for Time Zone, Daylight Saving Time, Time Format.
  4. Select Antenna/Cable type. The TV will then scan for available channels.

After Setup: You can re-scan channels (Start Scan), manage favorites, or change language settings.

Using Your TV

Switching On/Standby

Press the Power button [B] on the unit or remote control to turn the TV on or put it into standby mode. Note: The TV consumes low standby power.

Adjusting Volume

Use VOL +/- on the remote or TV to increase/decrease volume. Press Mute [V] to silence the sound.

Switching Channels

  • Use CH +/- on the remote or TV.
  • Use Number buttons to directly select channels. For digital channels, enter the number followed by a dot and the sub-channel number (e.g., 11.1).
  • Use PREV.CH to return to the previous channel.

Watching Channels from an External Device

Press SOURCE and use navigation buttons [H I] to select the desired input (e.g., TV, HDMI, AV, MULTIMEDIA). Then use the external device's remote to select channels.

Sleep Timer

Press SLEEP repeatedly to set a timer (5-minute increments up to 240 minutes) for the TV to turn off automatically. Press SLEEP again to view the remaining time or cancel.

Switching Audio Mode

  • Digital TV: Press SAP to cycle through available audio languages/modes.
  • Analog TV: Press SAP to cycle through available audio modes (Stereo, Mono, SAP).

Create a List of Favorite Channels

Add channels to a favorite list for quick access. Press FAVORITE to display the list and use navigation buttons [H I] to select channels.

Changing Picture Format

Press FORMAT to cycle through display modes (Normal, Wide, Zoom, Cinema) for 16:9 or 4:3 analog signals. For PC input, modes like Full (DVI) and Point to Point (DVI) are available.

TV Screen Information

Press INFO [T] to display current channel information, program title, signal resolution, audio information, broadcast station, lock rating, signal quality, Dolby status, and clock (for Digital TV). Press INFO again to hide.

Getting the Most from Your TV

Displaying the Main Menu

Press the HOME button [Q] to display the main menu. Use navigation buttons [H I J K] to select menus like PICTURE, SOUND, CHANNEL, LOCK, TIME, SETUP, and MULTIMEDIA.

PICTURE Settings

Adjust picture quality using Picture Mode (Standard, Dynamic, Soft, User) and Advanced Settings (Format, Noise Reduction, Dynamic Contrast, HDMI Mode, 120 PMR). Brightness, Contrast, Color, Tint, and Sharpness are adjustable in User mode.

SOUND Settings

Adjust sound settings including Sound Mode, Treble, Bass, Balance, MTS (Mono, Stereo, SAP), and Audio Languages. Digital Audio Output options (Off, PCM, RAW) and Surround Sound are also available. AVL helps maintain consistent loudness.

CHANNEL Settings

Connect antenna or cable. Use Start Scan to scan and memorize available channels. Manage channels via Channel List, Show/Hide, Channel Number, and Channel Label.

LOCK Settings

Set a PIN code to access LOCK menu functions: Change Password, Key Lock (locks TV panel buttons), System Lock (locks TV system functions), and Source Block (hides input sources). Child and ratings lock allows setting viewing restrictions based on US or Canadian ratings.

TIME Settings

Configure Sleep Timer, Time Zone, Daylight Saving Time, Time Format, Auto Clock, and manually set the Clock.

SETUP Menu

Customize Menu Language, Transparent OSD display, OSD Timeout duration. Configure Closed Caption settings (CC Off, CC On, CC On Mute) and options for Analog and Digital TV. Other settings include Over Scan, Source Label, Other Settings (Audio Only), Restore Default, and Setup Wizard.

CEC (Consumer Electronics Control)

Operate connected Philips brand HDMI-CEC devices. Settings include CEC Control, Device Auto Power Off, TV Auto Power On, and Audio Receiver. Voice Guidance, Video Description, and E-sticker settings are also available.

MULTIMEDIA

View JPEG photos stored on a USB memory stick via the USB terminal. Supports various USB memory stick capacities and file systems.

FAQ

  • Remote Control Not Working: Check connections, batteries, obstacles, or test IR signal.
  • Setup Wizard Appears Every Time: Ensure auto scan (Start Scan) is completed.
  • No RF Signal Programs: Check antenna connection, ensure Start Scan is complete, or check Child/Ratings Lock settings.
  • No Image from External Devices: Verify connections and selected input mode.

  • Pixelation: May occur if digital broadcasting capabilities exceed TV display capabilities.
  • Unusual Picture/TV Not Operating: Use the TV's Power button, or unplug/replug the AC power cord.
  • No Sound/Distorted Sound (HDMI-DVI): Ensure analog audio cables are correctly connected.
  • Sound Intermittent/No Sound: Check audio cable connection. Ensure AVL is set to On if volume fluctuates.
  • No Picture or Sound: Check power, all connections, signal strength, and try unplugging/replugging the AC cord.
  • Distorted Picture/Unusual Sound (Analog): May be due to electrical interference; try relocating the TV.
  • Ghosts/Lines/Streaks (Analog): Can be caused by electrical interference.
  • Screen Size Issues: TV remembers viewing mode per input. Adjust FORMAT for full screen.
