Diodes Incorporated Introduces 80V/100V Automotive Buck Converters for High-Efficiency 48V PoL Applications
Plano, Texas – August 21, 2025 – Diodes Incorporated [®] (Nasdaq: DIOD)
Product Announcement
Diodes Incorporated today introduces four new automotive-compliant asynchronous buck converters designed for 48V low-voltage rail point-of-load (PoL) applications. The AP68255Q/AP68355Q and AP6A255Q/AP6A355Q feature integrated 500mΩ power MOSFETs, delivering high-efficiency step-down DC-DC conversion with up to 3.5A of continuous output current.
These converters are engineered to operate across the full automotive battery voltage range, from 5.5V to 80V/100V, including scenarios with load dump conditions. They are suitable for a wide array of automotive applications, including 48V motor control, advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), telematics, infotainment, body control modules, instrument clusters, and lighting systems.
Key Technical Features
The new buck converters utilize constant on-time (COT) control, which maintains a nearly constant switching frequency of 300kHz. This control method ensures fast load and line transient response, simplifies loop stabilization, and results in low output voltage ripple, thereby reducing the need for external components.
An advanced gate-driver arrangement in these devices minimizes switch node ringing effects without compromising the turn-on and turn-off times of the N-channel MOSFET switch. This design contributes to reducing high-frequency radiated electromagnetic interference (EMI) noise commonly associated with MOSFET switching.
Protection and Reliability
Integrated overcurrent protection (OCP) with frequency foldback mode provides robust high load-current support and helps manage junction temperature during fault conditions. The overtemperature protection (OTP) circuit is designed to immediately shut down the controller's output voltage when the junction temperature reaches 160°C. The converter automatically restarts once the temperature drops below the 140°C safety threshold. These protective features are crucial for preventing controller damage or malfunction, thereby maximizing system reliability.
Availability and Pricing
The AP68255Q/355Q and AP6A255Q/355Q asynchronous buck converters are offered in a thermally enhanced SO-8EP package. They operate within a temperature range of -40°C to +125°C.
Pricing for these devices is available starting at $0.80 for the AP68255Q, $0.86 for the AP68355Q, $0.90 for the AP6A255Q, and $0.96 for the AP6A355Q, based on 1,000-piece quantities. Standard-compliance versions are also available for industrial and commercial applications.
