Installation

Mounting Options

WARNING: Mount to outlet box marked "Acceptable for fan support of 35 lbs. (15.9 Kg) or less", and use provided screws. Outlet boxes for lighting fixtures may not be acceptable for fan support; consult a qualified electrician if in doubt.

If your ceiling fan does not have an existing UL-listed mounting box, install one:

[Diagrams show three methods for mounting an outlet box: one directly to a joist, one with a brace between joists, and one recessed box with a ceiling mounting plate providing strong support.]

NOTE: A longer downrod may be needed for steep, sloped ceilings. Maximum allowable angle is 30° away from horizontal.

[Diagram shows a hanger bar installed in an outlet box, indicating it's used for existing fixtures without a ceiling joist.]

If the canopy touches the downrod, remove the canopy bottom cover and turn the canopy 180° before attaching it to the mounting plate.

To hang your fan where there is an existing fixture but no ceiling joist, an installation hanger bar (available at home improvement stores) may be needed.

[Diagram shows mounting bracket (A) being attached to an outlet box with screws (LL).]

2. Hanging the fan

WARNING: The hook (OO) is for balancing only during electrical connections. Failure to hang as shown may cause the hook to break, resulting in the fan falling. The hook must pass from inside to outside the canopy.

WARNING: Use one of the non-slotted (round) holes in the canopy (C) when hanging the fan on the hook (OO).

[Diagram shows standard mount with ball/downrod assembly in bracket, and close-to-ceiling mount with fan assembly hung on a hook.]

3. Making the electrical connection

WARNING: Wires not supplied are designed for up to one 12-gauge house wire and two fan wires. For larger gauge house wiring or more house wires, consult an electrician for proper wire nuts.

WARNING: Remove rubber motor stops before installing blades or testing the motor.

IMPORTANT: Use supplied plastic wire connectors (CC). Secure with electrical tape, ensuring no loose strands.

NOTE: The fan comes with 30 in. lead wires for extended assemblies. For the 4.5 in. ball/downrod assembly (B), cut lead wires to desired length (minimum 12 in.).

Refer to remote installation instructions at the beginning of this document.

[Diagrams illustrate wire connections using wire nuts (CC) and electrical tape.]

4. Wrapping the extra wire

NOTE: Follow this step ONLY if you did not cut extra wire length.

5. Mounting the fan-motor assembly (standard mount)

WARNING: Ensure the tab in the mounting bracket ring rests in the hanger ball groove. Failure to seat properly could damage wiring.

WARNING: Canopy locking slots are for mounting aid only. Do not leave the fan assembly unattended until all four canopy screws are engaged and tightened.

[Diagram shows switch cup cover (J) and screws (QQ).]

Operation

Turn on power and check fan operation. The pull chain controls fan speeds:

Appropriate speed settings for warm or cool weather depend on room size, ceiling height, and number of fans.

The slide switch controls (XX) blade direction:

NOTE: Wait for the fan to stop before reversing blade rotation.

A. Warm weather - (Forward): A downward airflow creates a cooling effect, allowing a warmer air conditioner setting without affecting comfort.

B. Cool weather - (Reverse): An upward airflow moves warm air off the ceiling, allowing a cooler heating unit setting without affecting comfort.

[Diagrams illustrate warm weather (downward airflow) and cool weather (upward airflow) with directional arrows.]

Care and Cleaning

WARNING: Ensure power is off before cleaning your fan.

Due to the fan's natural movement, connections may loosen. Check support connections, brackets, and blade attachments twice a year to ensure they are secure. Removal from ceiling is not necessary.

Clean your fan periodically. Do not use water, as it can damage the motor or wood, or cause electrical shock. Use only a soft brush or lint-free cloth to avoid scratching the finish. Plating is sealed with lacquer to minimize discoloration or tarnishing.

A light coat of furniture polish can be applied to wood for protection and beauty. Cover small scratches with a light application of shoe polish.

The motor has permanently-lubricated sealed ball bearings; no oiling is needed.

Troubleshooting

Problem Solution
The fan will not start. Check main and branch circuit fuses or breakers. Ensure the wall switch is ON. Check line wire connections in the switch housing. Check the transmitter battery. Ensure you are within 10-20 ft (3-6m) range. Ensure transmitter and receiver dip switch settings match. Turn off power before checking dip switches.
The fan is noisy. Ensure all motor housing screws are snug. Ensure blade bracket screws to motor hub are tight. Ensure wire nut connections are not rattling against each other or the switch housing interior. Allow a 24-hour "breaking in" period for new fan noises to disappear. If using the light kit, ensure glassware screws are tight and light bulbs are secure. Ensure the canopy is a short distance from the ceiling (not touching). Ensure outlet box is secure and rubber isolator pads were used between the mounting plate and outlet box.
The fan wobbles. Check that all blade and blade arm screws are secure. Most wobble is due to unequal blade levels. Measure from a point on the ceiling above each blade tip to the center of the blade. Rotate the fan and repeat for each blade. Deviation should be within 1/8 in. Run the fan for ten minutes. Use the enclosed blade balancing kit if wobble persists.
