Heatmiser PRT-EWTS Programmable Room Thermostat
Model: PRT-EWTS
What is a Programmable Room Thermostat?
A programmable room thermostat combines the functions of a programmer and a room thermostat. A programmer allows users to set 'On' and 'Off' periods according to their lifestyle. A room thermostat senses the air temperature, activating the heating when the temperature drops below the set point and switching it off once the set temperature is reached.
This type of thermostat enables users to specify desired heating times and temperatures, allowing for different settings throughout the day and week to match personal needs and preferences. Setting a higher temperature does not accelerate room heating; this depends on the heating system's design and size. Similarly, reducing the temperature setting does not affect cooling speed but results in a lower controlled room temperature, saving energy.
The most effective use involves finding comfortable minimum temperature settings for different times and leaving the thermostat to manage the system. A recommended approach is to start with a low temperature (e.g., 18°C) and increase it by 1°C daily until comfort is achieved, avoiding further adjustments to save energy.
Temporary adjustments can be made via overriding or the temperature hold feature, detailed on pages 15 and 16. Programmable thermostats require unobstructed airflow for accurate temperature sensing; they should not be covered by curtains or furniture. Nearby electronic devices like fires, televisions, or lamps can also interfere with proper operation.
Installation Procedure
Do: Mount the thermostat at eye level. Read instructions fully for optimal product use.
Don't: Do not push hard on the LCD screen, as this can cause irreparable damage. Do not install near direct heat sources, as this affects functionality. If using the desk stand, ensure it is away from heat sources.
Wall Mounting:
- Fix the wall plate to the wall.
- Push the thermostat onto the wall plate.
Desk Stand:
- Remove the thermostat from the wall plate.
- Release the desk stand.

The display shows 'Thermostat completely OFF' or 'Thermostat powered ON'.
Optional Features Explained
The following settings are optional and generally do not require adjustment:
- Feature 01 – Temperature Format: Selects between °C or °F.
- Feature 02 - Switching Differential: Adjusts the switching differential. Default is 1°C (heating on 1°C below set temp, off at set temp). A 2°C differential means heating on 2°C below set temp.
- Feature 03 - Frost Protect: The temperature maintained in frost mode. Range: 07-17°C (Default: 12°C), suitable for most applications.
- Feature 04 – Output Delay: Prevents rapid switching; can be set from 00-15 minutes (Default: 00, no delay).
- Feature 05 – Pairing Function: Allows pairing with the receiver.
- Feature 06 - Fail Safe: If enabled, the thermostat signals the receiver every 20 minutes. If a signal is missed, the receiver activates the output for 20% of the time to protect against wireless signal loss or battery failure.
- Feature 07 – Optimum Start: Delays heating start-up to ensure the building is warm at the programmed time, optimizing energy use. It calculates heat-up time based on the rate of change.
- Feature 08 – Rate Of Change: The calculated time (in minutes) for the thermostat to raise the building temperature by 1°C. This feature learns home heat-up times for efficiency.
- Feature 09 - Programming Mode: Offers 5/2 Day (4 weekday/4 weekend levels) or 7 Day (4 levels per day) programming.
- Feature 10 – Floor Limit Temperature: Uses the floor limiting sensor to prevent overheating. The limit is set from the thermostat but stored in the receiver. If the RF link fails, the receiver limits the floor temperature. Adjustable from 20-45°C.
