Installation
To install the game, insert the CD labeled DISK 1 into your CD ROM drive. If installation does not start automatically, follow these steps:
- Click START.
- Click RUN.
- Type
D:\SETUP.EXE
(where "D" is the letter of your CD-ROM drive).
Follow the on-screen instructions to complete installation.
Uninstalling
The game can be uninstalled using the Add/Remove Programs function in your Control Panel. Find the program name, highlight it, and click Add/Remove.
Starting Barnyard
To start the program, double-click the Barnyard icon on your desktop or navigate through Start > Programs > THQ > Nickelodeon > Barnyard.
DirectX Requirements
During installation, you will be prompted to install DirectX® 9.0. Barnyard requires DirectX 9.0 or higher. If you do not have it installed, follow the on-screen prompts.
Game Profiles
To save or track your progress, create or load a Game Profile. Use the arrow keys to make selections, Enter to confirm, and ESC to go back. After entering your name, select "OK" and press Enter.

When the Farmer's Away
Experience a tale of friendship, adventure, and chaos in Barnyard, where animals rule. As part of the cow community, you'll need to pitch in, pull your weight, and party like an animal. Milk it for all it's worth with Otis, Miles, Pig, and the bovine brigade to become a Barnyard hero.
Main Menu
The Main Menu allows you to:
- New Game: Create your own Cow and begin a new Barnyard adventure.
- Load Game: Return to any previously saved game.
- Options: Adjust your Audio and Control settings.
- Bonus: Unlock Barnyard concept art, movies, and more.
- Antics: Compete in mini-games like Gopher Golf and Chasing Chicks.
- Quit: Exit the game.
Missions
Missions drive the story forward, presenting various tasks. One to three missions can be active simultaneously. Completing all missions is necessary to finish the game and become a true Barnyard hero.
Mission Tips: Look for animals with an exclamation mark icon (!). Some missions must be completed before dawn or nightfall. Pause the game and check OBJECTIVES if needed. If you fail a mission, you can try again later. Find new missions via text messages and the map.
Map
The map provides an overview of the Barnyard neighborhood, showing locations of items, animals, and mission objectives. Key areas include:

- Old Mill
- Walnut Woods
- Barnyard
- Dankweed Pond
- Izzy Springs Golf Course
- Gopher Hill (Shop)
- Junkyard
Use the map ?️ to navigate.
Game Screen
The Game Screen displays:
- 1) Clock: Shows the current time on the farm.
- 2) Stamina: More stamina allows longer running.
- 3) Milk Supply: Used for squirting and combat. Keep udders full!
- 4) Inventory: Tracks collected items and tools.
- 5) Gopher Bucks: In-game currency.
- 6) Mission Objective: Displays your current objective.
- 7) Mini-Map: Provides an overview of the farm and objectives.
Pause Menu
Press the ESCAPE key ESC
during gameplay to access the Pause Menu. Options include:
- Continue: Resume gameplay.
- Options: Access game settings.
- Objective: Review your current mission.
- Quit: Exit the game and return to the Main Menu.
Saving and Sleeping
When the game starts, Miles will show your sleeping area. Sleeping restores stamina and advances time. You can also save your current game here.

Various items and characters are found in Barnyard:
- Food: Found growing around the farm for recipes, mocktails, selling, or stamina.
- Gopher Bucks: Currency used for equipment, food, and barn upgrades at the Gopher Underground.
- Cell Phone: ? Receive text messages about missions, mini-games, and parties.
- Sunglasses: ?️ Used for squirting targets.
- Milk Cans: ? Used to make cream and butter.
- Keys: ? Collect to open gates to new areas.
- Map: ?️ A guide to the barnyard neighborhood.
- Bike: ? Used for faster travel and racing.
- Metal Detector: ⛏️ Locates buried objects and secrets.
- Crates: ? Break open for rewards.
- Tree Notes: Contain secret messages for missions.
- Milkweed: Botanicals that grow into ladders for climbing.
- Flowers: Collect ten of the same type for a bunch.
- Gold Rush Machines: For gambling.
- Raccoons: ? Pesky creatures that may attack if cornered.
- Coyotes: ? Vicious critters with sharp claws, often found in the junkyard.
- Farmer: ?? Avoid detection by the Farmer while he is away.
- Recipe Rocks: ? Turn over to find recipes for cooking or mocktails.
- Cookbook: ? Holds all discovered recipes.
- Mocktails: ? Recipes available in the Night Barn.
Troubleshooting
For optimal performance, close other applications running on your computer before playing Barnyard. It is strongly recommended to obtain the latest DirectX compatible drivers for your video and sound cards. Using incompatible drivers can lead to unpredictable results. Updated drivers are usually available for free from your hardware manufacturer's website. Popular video chipset manufacturers include:

License Agreement
Your use of this file signifies your agreement to the terms outlined below:
1. Ownership
The Software is a proprietary product of THQ and its suppliers. THQ and its suppliers retain all rights, including patents, copyrights, trademarks, trade names, trade secrets, and other proprietary rights relating to the Software. You are licensed to use the Software, not sold it. You will only own the media on which the Software is provided, not the Software itself.
2. Grant of Licence
THQ grants you a non-exclusive, non-transferable right to use one copy of the Software for your personal use in the country of acquisition. You may not install it on multiple computers, timeshare it, make it available to others, reverse-engineer, decompile, or export it. You may make one backup copy, ensuring all copyright notices are reproduced.
3. Limited Warranty
THQ International warrants the medium containing the Software to be free from defects in materials and workmanship for ninety (90) days from the date of purchase. This warranty is limited to repair or replacement at THQ's option. It does not cover normal wear and tear, abuse, unreasonable use, mistreatment, or neglect. This warranty is in lieu of all other warranties, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability and fitness for a particular purpose, which are limited to the ninety (90) day period. THQ is not liable for special, incidental, or consequential damages. This does not affect your statutory rights.
The computer program and its documentation are protected by national and international copyright law. Reproduction, translation, hiring, lending, broadcasting, and public performances are prohibited without express written permission from THQ International.
4. Limitation of Liability
THQ's aggregate liability related to this agreement and the Software shall not exceed the license fees received by THQ for the Software.
No THQ supplier shall have any liability whatsoever. THQ and its suppliers are not liable for indirect, exemplary, special, consequential, or incidental damages, including lost profits, even if advised of the possibility. Some jurisdictions may not allow these limitations, in which case the duration of any such limitation is limited to ninety (90) days from the date the software is received.
5. Termination
You may terminate this Agreement at any time. The Agreement terminates automatically upon your breach of any term. Upon termination, you must destroy the Software and any backup copies.
