KGEAR GU210 Passive Subwoofer
User Guide and Installation Manual
Thank you for choosing KGEAR. Please read this manual carefully before using the product to ensure proper operation and keep it for future reference. For questions, contact K-array customer service at info@kgear.it or your local distributor.
The GU210 is a compact, powerful passive subwoofer from the KGEAR GU family. It features a 10" ferrite magnet woofer and a 10" passive radiator, delivering precise bass with high power and efficiency. The all-steel construction, including the cabinet and grille, ensures robust and durable design, suitable for outdoor installations (IP64 rated when using the G-IPCAP1 accessory, sold separately).
Equipped with a passive low-pass filter, the GU210 can be driven by any amplifier without a dedicated preset. Its frequency response from 40Hz to 250Hz provides deep bass definition, making it an ideal companion for KGEAR GH and GF family products. Versatile installation options for wall-mounting, down-firing, and standing configurations cater to hospitality, corporate, and residential settings.
Unpacking
Each KGEAR device is inspected before shipping. Upon arrival, inspect the shipping carton and the device for any damage. Notify the shipping company immediately if damage is found. The product package includes:
- A. 1x GU210 passive subwoofer
- B. 4x rubber feet for decoupling and orienting the subwoofer vertically or horizontally.
Wiring and Connectivity
The GU210 subwoofer is equipped with a 4-pin Phoenix (Euroblock) connector (1.5/4-ST-3.81). The 10" woofer is connected to Pin 1 (positive terminal) and Pin 2 (negative terminal). For passing the signal to another speaker or subwoofer in parallel, Pin 3 connects to Pin 1 (positive) and Pin 4 connects to Pin 2 (negative) of the speaker connector.
Wiring Diagram Description: The rear panel shows a 4-pin Euroblock connector. Pin 1 is labeled SIGNAL + (1+), Pin 2 is SIGNAL - (1-). Pins 3 and 4 are also labeled SIGNAL + (1+) and SIGNAL - (1-) respectively, for pass-through connections. A table indicates 16Ω impedance, with red wires typically for positive and blue for negative.
Always check speaker impedance to match the amplifier's power load.
Impedance Settings
The GU210 subwoofer has a nominal impedance of 4Ω. Ensure you select and connect the GU210 to a compatible amplifier platform. For parallel connections of multiple units, consult the KGEAR amplifier to KGEAR speaker Matching Table available via a provided link. Note that parallel connections reduce the total load impedance.
Positioning
The GU210 is designed to extend the frequency response of line array elements like the GF42, GF82, and GF162. As an omnidirectional sound source, it can be placed anywhere within a distributed speaker configuration. The subwoofer's performance is influenced by its environment; placing it near a wall or facing the floor (with proper decoupling) can enhance bass response through reflections.
Installation Options
Free-standing Installation
The GU210 can be installed as a free-standing unit on any flat surface using the included rubber feet. It can be positioned vertically or horizontally.
Down-firing Installation
The GU210 can be installed in a down-firing orientation using the GU-DOWNFIRING accessory. This kit includes four 3.9 cm tall feet that screw into the front panel after removing the grille.
Advantages of Down-Firing:
- Floor Effect: The floor surface enhances bass response through reflection, resulting in deeper bass.
- Sound Distribution: A down-firing subwoofer distributes sound more evenly, minimizing dead spots.
- Driver Protection: The downward-facing driver is less susceptible to damage from objects or impacts.
- Aesthetic Design: The driver is hidden, offering a cleaner, more unobtrusive look.
The GU-DOWNFIRING KIT consists of 4x 3.9 cm H x 1.3 cm feet.
Applique Installation On-Wall (G-WALLHANG1)
The GU210 can be mounted on a wall using the G-WALLHANG1 accessory, which includes:
- 2x stainless steel brackets for hanging and wall-mounting.
- 2x stainless steel plugs.
- 2x adhesive pads.
Installation Steps:
- Screw the pivots into the threaded holes on the back of the loudspeaker.
- Attach the adhesive rubber spacers near the bottom side of the loudspeaker.
- Mark the wall surface for the bracket placement, ensuring the correct spacing between hanging points (40 mm, 347 mm).
- Drill holes on the wall for the G-WALLHANG1 brackets and secure them using wall plugs and screws.
- Install the GU210 subwoofer onto the mounted brackets.
Installation on-wall (K-WALL2)
The K-array K-WALL2 accessory can be used for wall-mounting the GU210. Ensure you have the necessary tools for drilling and screwing.
Installation Steps:
- Disassemble the K-WALL2 by removing the lateral plate of the bracket intended for wall fixing.
- Assemble the bracket to the loudspeaker.
- Drill two holes on the wall surface, 122 mm (4.80 in) apart, and install the bracket.
- Align the two parts of the bracket and fix them by reassembling the lateral plate attached to the wall.
A 4 mm hex key is required for these steps.
Installation on-wall (K-WALL2L)
The K-array K-WALL2L accessory is also available for wall-mounting the GU210. Ensure you have the necessary tools for drilling and screwing.
Installation Steps:
- Disassemble the K-WALL2L by removing the bottom screw of the bracket to be fixed on the surface.
- Drill two holes on the wall surface, 180 mm (7.08 in) apart, and install the bracket with the K-shaped hole.
- Assemble the bracket to the loudspeaker.
- Align the two parts of the bracket and fix them.
- The GU210 is then installed on the wall with the K-WALL2L.
A 5 mm hex key is required for these steps.
G-IPCAP1 Sealing Accessory
The G-IPCAP1 is a dedicated IP sealing accessory for the GU210, providing protection against foreign agents, salt, chlorine, and water. It is made of highly resistant rubber and mounts to the rear panel to protect connectors.
Installation Procedure:
- Take the G-IPCAP1 accessory and make a hole in the rubber material using a bradawl.
- Choose a cable with a sheath for greater insulation and pass it through the hole.
- Make the audio connection by connecting the wires to Pin 1 (+) and Pin 2 (-) of the Euroblock connector.
- Ensure a secure fit by firmly pressing down the accessory's gasket to close the connector compartment.
