KGEAR GF82 Series Line Array Column Speakers
Model Numbers: GF82I, GF82AI, GF82TI
Introduction
Thank you for choosing KGEAR. This user guide provides essential information for the proper operation and installation of your KGEAR GF82 series line array column speakers. For any questions, please contact K-array customer service at info@kgear.it or your local distributor.
The GF82I, GF82TI, and GF82AI are medium-size, minimalist line array elements designed for professional audio applications. They feature 8x2" ferrite magnet woofers in a recycled ABS enclosure, utilizing PAT (Pure Array Technology). These speakers are ideal for clear speech reproduction with high definition and intelligibility, offering directivity and narrow vertical dispersion. They can also be used for music reproduction when paired with a KGEAR subwoofer.
GF82I: A 200W passive line array element with selectable impedance (16 Ω low-Z or 64 Ω high-Z).
GF82TI: Features an internal transformer, compatible with 70V or 100V high-voltage lines, with selectable power taps (4/8/16/32 W @ 100V or 2/4/8/16 W @ 70V).
GF82AI: An active speaker with a built-in amplifier module, featuring a balanced line input, mute contact, auto ON-OFF switch with selectable thresholds, and a speaker output for connecting additional KGEAR speakers or subwoofers.
Unpacking
Each KGEAR device is inspected before shipment. Upon arrival, carefully inspect the shipping carton and the device. Notify the shipping company immediately if any damage is found. The following parts are supplied:

Wiring and Connections
GF82I Wiring
Signal Polarity Output and Wiring:
PIN | SIGNAL |
---|---|
1 | SIGNAL - |
2 | SIGNAL + |
3 | SIGNAL - |
4 | SIGNAL + |
Impedance Selection (GF82I): The GF82I passive speaker allows selection between Low Impedance (16 Ω) and High Impedance (64 Ω) using a provided jumper cable to connect the central pins of the Phoenix connector.
Diagrams: Illustrate impedance selection for 16 Ω (Low-Z) and 64 Ω (High-Z).
GF82AI Wiring and Controls
Rear Panel: Features two 4-pin Phoenix connectors.
Wiring:
Connector | PIN 1 | PIN 2 | PIN 3 | PIN 4 |
---|---|---|---|---|
Connector 1 | MUTE | SIGNAL - BALANCED | SIGNAL + BALANCED | GROUND BALANCED |
Connector 2 | + DC POWER IN | - DC POWER IN | SPK. OUTPUT + | SPK. OUTPUT - |
Controls:
- Inputs: 1x balanced line input, 1x mute contact (normally open).
- Outputs: 1x speaker output (minimum 4 Ω load) for connecting additional speakers or subwoofers.
- Auto ON/OFF Switch: With selectable thresholds controlled by a DIP switch for auto-standby mode.
DIP Switch Modes:
MODE | ON/OFF SWITCH MODES | Thresholds Values | Description |
---|---|---|---|
NO THRESHOLDS | ON / | The amplifier switches on only after a stronger signal has passed the chosen threshold. Useful to avoid noisy signals. | |
HIGH THRESHOLDS | LOW + MID + HIGH ON | -42 dBu | |
MEDIUM | LOW + MID ON | -46 dBu | Requires the input signal to be stable and exceed the minimum threshold for an extended period to keep the speaker switched on. |
LOW THRESHOLDS | LOW ON | -52 dBu | The amplifier module switches ON immediately when the signal is higher than this minimum threshold. Useful for quick response. |
Mute Contact: A wiring diagram shows how to connect an external switch to the Mute contact input to turn the speaker off. The G-AL120 power supply accessory can power the internal amplifier module and multiple GF82I speakers.
GF82TI Wiring
Rear Panel: Features a 5-pin Phoenix connector.
Transformer Power Taps:
PIN | 70 V | 100 V |
---|---|---|
1 | COMMON - | COMMON - |
2 | 2 W | 4 W |
3 | 4 W | 8 W |
4 | 8 W | 16 W |
5 | 16 W | 32 W |
Transformer Wiring: The GF82TI is compatible with 70V/100V lines and offers various power taps for flexible system configuration. It can be installed with the G-IPCAP2 accessory.

Installation and Accessories
G-IPCAP - IP Sealing Accessory
The G-IPCAP1 and G-IPCAP2 accessories provide IP sealing for GF82, GF82A, and GF82T speakers, protecting connectors from external agents like salt, chlorine, and water. G-IPCAP1 is for GF82 passive and GF82A active speakers, while G-IPCAP2 is for GF82T speakers.
Installation Procedure:
- Take the dedicated accessory (G-IPCAP1 or G-IPCAP2) and make a hole in the rubber material.
- Pass a cable with a sheath through the hole for greater insulation.
- Connect wires to the provided Euroblock connector (pins 1-4) and plug into speaker terminals.
- Use jumper cables for desired impedance configuration (GF82I).
- For GF82AI, connect external input and DC power to the top rear panel terminals, and speaker output to the bottom terminals.
- Ensure a secure fit by pressing down the accessory's gasket.
- Connect the speaker to the amplifier channel.
Diagrams: Illustrate the installation steps for the G-IPCAP accessory.
General Installation Guidelines
Equipment is suitable for mounting at heights ≤ 2 meters. Install in a well-ventilated location with a maximum ambient temperature of 35°C (95°F).
Installation and commissioning must be carried out by qualified and authorized personnel.
Example Configuration
Multiple GF82 elements can be mounted in an array setting, connected in high impedance configuration. An example shows 16x GF82 speakers connected and driven by a single channel of a GA43L/GA46L amplifier.
