1.3 Function Description
Common Functions:
- Power On/Off: Short press the power button to turn on; long press for 3 seconds to turn off.
- Assist Mode Adjustment: Use the '+' and '-' buttons to adjust the pedal assist level.
- Push Mode: Long press the assist button to activate push mode (6 km/h). Release to stop.
- Throttle: European version has a throttle for 6 km/h assist. American version has a throttle with a maximum speed of 20 MPH.
- Light Switch: Press the light button to turn on/off the front and rear lights. This may affect instrument brightness.
- Display Data: Press the 'i' button to cycle through real-time speed, trip distance, total distance, maximum speed, and average speed.
- Error Codes: The instrument displays error codes for system malfunctions. Refer to section 3.3 for detailed error code definitions.
Getting Started
2.1 Installation Guide
Important: Two people are recommended for assembly and disassembly. Ensure the system is off before installation.
2.1.1 Installation Warning: Maximum load capacity is 150KG.
2.1.2 Unpacking: Carefully remove the bike from the box, ensuring it does not tip over.
2.1.3 Cockpit Installation:
- Insert the stem into the head tube.
- Secure with the provided screws (M5).
- Ensure the handlebars are centered and perpendicular to the frame's top tube.
2.1.4 Front Fender and Light Installation:
- Protect the instrument display from pressure.
- Remove and save screws for the front fender and light.
- Attach the front fender and front light using the provided screws.
2.1.5 Wheel Installation:
- Remove and save necessary parts.
- Attach the front and rear wheels, ensuring proper alignment and tightening of nuts and bolts.
2.1.6 Saddle Installation and Adjustment:
- Ensure the safety line on the seat post is not exposed.
- Insert the seat post and secure it.
- Adjust the saddle forward/backward and tilt as needed.
2.1.7 Rear Fender and Rack Installation:
- Remove and save screws.
- Attach the rear fender and rear rack, ensuring proper alignment.
2.1.8 Rear Light Installation:
- Ensure proper alignment of the rear light.
- Secure the rear light.
2.1.9 Pedal Installation:
- Distinguish between left (L) and right (R) pedals.
- Install pedals by screwing them into the crank arms (M5 and M6).
- Tighten securely.
2.1.10 Final Assembly: Congratulations! Your bike is equipped.
2.2 Folding
Follow the diagrams to properly fold the bicycle for storage or transport.
2.3 Removing the Battery
Remove the anti-dust rubber plug before removing the battery.
2.4 Charging
Charging Methods:
- Method 1: Charge the battery directly on the frame.
- Method 2: Remove the battery for charging (refer to section 2.3).
Note: The battery is shipped with a partial charge. Fully charge the battery before the first use with the original ENGWE charger. Using a non-original charger may damage the battery.
Steps:
- Charging: Insert the charger connector into the battery's power port, then plug the charger into an electrical outlet.
- Status Indicator: Red light indicates normal charging; green light indicates a full charge.
- Charging Time: Approximately 6-8 hours.
- End of Charge: Unplug the charger from the outlet and disconnect the charger head from the battery.
Important Safety Notes for Charging:
- Keep batteries and chargers in a safe, dry, and well-ventilated area away from flammable materials.
- Do not charge outdoors.
- If you notice a strange odor or excessive heat during charging, stop immediately and contact customer support.
2.5 Quick Use Guide
Before riding, ensure all components are installed and secured, and the battery is sufficiently charged.
Step 1: Adjust Handlebar and Saddle: Adjust to a comfortable height and ensure quick-release mechanisms are securely fastened.
Step 2: Power On and Front Light Adjustment:
- Insert the battery key and turn it to the 'ON' position.
- Briefly press the power button for 1 second to turn on the display.
- Adjust front lights to illuminate the path ahead.
Step 3: Mode Adjustment: Select the appropriate pedal assist mode (5 levels) using the '+' and '-' buttons based on your riding conditions.
Step 4: Riding: Always wear a helmet. Start pedaling and adjust your position as needed.
Step 5: Braking Instructions:
- Left brake controls the front wheel; right brake controls the rear wheel.
- Apply the rear brake first, then the front brake for smooth stopping.
- Warning: Avoid sudden braking with only the front brake, as it can cause instability and falls.
Instrument Settings
You can customize various settings on the instrument display.
Accessing Settings: Press and hold the '+' and 'i' buttons simultaneously while powering on the bike.
Navigation: Use the '+' and '-' buttons to cycle through settings (01P to 18P) and adjust values. Press 'i' to confirm changes or move to the next setting.
Key Settings:
- 01P/bL: Backlight Brightness
- 02P/Un: Unit System (Metric/Imperial)
- 03P: Nominal Voltage (Default: 48V)
- 04P: Auto Shutdown Time
- 05P: Push Mode Level (European: 0-3, American: 0-7)
- 06P/Ld: Wheel Diameter (Default: 23 inches)
- 07P/n-: Speed Sensor Count
- 08P/LS: Speed Limit (European: 25km/h, American: 28MPH)
- 09P: Start Mode (Zero/Non-zero)
- 10P: Riding Mode (Push, Electric Only, Both)
Note: Settings 11P to 18P are not supported on this model.
Factory Reset:
- Enter the reset interface by pressing and holding 'i' and '+' for over 2 seconds (display shows 'dEF').
- Select 'Y' to confirm reset.
- Press 'i' to confirm. The instrument will reset and return to the normal display.
Maintenance Guide
3.1 Riding Precautions
General Safety:
- Do not park or charge the bike in building entrances, stairwells, or emergency exits.
- Avoid charging or parking in residential buildings. Keep away from combustible materials. Do not charge for extended periods (max 12 hours).
- Prevent water from entering electrical components. Avoid direct water contact with the charging port and cable connectors when washing the bike.
- When adjusting the seat post or stem, ensure the safety lines are not exposed.
- Unauthorized modifications are prohibited.
- Do not touch electrified parts with wet hands or metal objects.
- Do not disassemble electrical components without authorization.
- Avoid prolonged exposure to sun or rain, which can damage components.
- Clean the bike with a neutral detergent and water. Do not disassemble internal parts for washing.
Riding Safety:
- Do not lend the bike to individuals unfamiliar with its operation.
- Adhere to local speed limits and use designated bike lanes.
- Transport passengers or cargo according to local laws.
- Always wear a properly fitted helmet.
- Increase braking distance in wet or snowy conditions. Avoid riding in heavy rain.
- Do not ride under the influence of alcohol or drugs, or while operating with one hand.
- Wear bright clothing and avoid loose-fitting sleeves. Wear appropriate footwear.
Riding Precautions:
- Follow traffic rules and prioritize safety.
- Always wear a helmet and other protective gear.
- Accelerate slowly during the first ride to maintain control.
- In adverse weather, increase braking distance and ride cautiously to prevent skidding or falls.
- Lower the assist mode level before stopping for the next ride.
Pre-Ride Inspection:
- Turn on the display and check indicators. Ensure sufficient battery power.
- Verify front and rear lights are functioning correctly.
- Check the horn.
- Ensure the handlebar and seat are properly adjusted and secured.
- Inspect brake levers for proper function and return. Ensure rear lights activate when braking.
- Check tire pressure, look for cracks or wear, and ensure no foreign objects are embedded.
- Verify wheel nuts are tight and reflectors are present and clean.
Pushing and Parking Precautions:
- Turn off the power when pushing the bike to prevent accidental acceleration.
- Use push mode for inclines or heavy loads.
- Park on a flat surface and turn off the power.
- Regularly clean and maintain your bike.
3.2 Bike and Motor Maintenance
Bike Maintenance:
- The bike is pre-adjusted. Contact the manufacturer for any issues.
- Regularly check tire pressure.
- Periodically inspect and adjust components like the handlebar, seat post, stem, axles, crankset, wheels, and chain for smooth operation. Tighten any loose nuts and bolts.
- Lubricate moving parts every six months with appropriate grease (e.g., #3 lithium grease). Lubricate the chain, cables, and footrests every two months with machine oil.
- Replace worn parts (brake pads, chain, tires) with identical models and specifications.
Motor Maintenance:
- Do not open the motor housing.
- Keep the motor clean and away from foreign objects, corrosive liquids, or gases. Avoid hitting or heating the motor.
- The motor has an IPX5 rating; do not wash with high-pressure water or immerse in water.
Battery Maintenance:
- Lithium batteries have a long lifespan, but usage affects longevity. Charge the battery regularly, do not let it run completely flat, and avoid long-term storage without charging.
- Charge the battery fully for the first use (6-8 hours, max 12 hours).
- If not using the bike for an extended period, charge the battery at least once every two months.
- Danger: Dispose of used batteries responsibly according to local regulations or designated repair centers.
- Warning: Keep batteries away from open flames or high temperatures. Do not dispose of batteries in fire or expose them to direct sunlight in hot weather.
3.3 Troubleshooting

4.1 Warranty Coverage
Warranty Policy:
- Use the product according to the manual's instructions.
- The warranty covers manufacturing defects.
- Repairs for issues outside the warranty period or for main components may incur charges.
- Replacement batteries after the warranty period are available at cost price.
