Logitech MX Keys S Getting Started Guide

Getting Started

This guide provides instructions for setting up your MX Keys S keyboard.

Detailed Setup Steps:

  1. Ensure the keyboard is turned on. The LED indicator for channel 1 should flash rapidly.
  2. Choose your connection method:
    • Use the included Logi BOLT wireless receiver. Plug the receiver into a USB port on your computer.
    • Connect directly via Bluetooth. Turn on your computer's Bluetooth settings to complete pairing. Click here for detailed information on completing this step on your computer. If you encounter Bluetooth issues, click here for Bluetooth troubleshooting information.
  3. Install the Logitech Options+ software. Download Logitech Options+ to enable additional features. For download and more information, visit logitech.com/optionsplus.

Product Overview

The MX Keys S keyboard features a sleek design and advanced functionality.

Keyboard Layouts and Features:

  • 1 - Universal Layout: Standard keyboard layout.
  • 2 - Mac Layout: Optimized layout for macOS users.
  • 3 - Easy-Switch Key: Allows pairing and switching between up to three devices.
  • 4 - Power Switch: Turns the keyboard on or off.
  • 5 - Battery Status LED and Ambient Light Sensor: Indicates battery level and adjusts backlighting automatically.

Pairing with a Second Computer (Easy-Switch):

The keyboard can be paired with up to three different computers. Use the Easy-Switch buttons to easily switch channels.

  1. Select the desired channel, then press and hold the Easy-Switch button for three seconds. This puts the keyboard into discoverable mode, allowing your computer to find it. The LED will flash rapidly.
  2. Connect the keyboard to your computer using Bluetooth or the USB receiver:
    • Bluetooth: Turn on your computer's Bluetooth settings to complete pairing. Click here for more information.
    • USB Receiver: Plug the Logi Bolt receiver into a USB port, open Logitech Options+, select: Add Device > Select Logi Bolt Receiver, and follow the instructions.
  3. After pairing, short-press the Easy-Switch button to switch channels.

Logitech Options+ is compatible with Windows and Mac.

Multi-Operating System Keyboard

The keyboard is compatible with multiple operating systems (OS): Windows 10/11 or later, macOS 11 or later, iOS, Linux, ChromeOS, and Android.

Key Layouts and Special Characters

Special characters are located on the keys. Their position depends on your operating system.

  • For Windows, Linux, and Android users: Special characters are located on the right side of the keys. (Example: `opt` `start` `€`)
  • For macOS and iOS users: Special characters and key functions are located on the left side of the keys. (Example: `opt` `start` `€`)

Battery Status Notification

The keyboard will notify you when the battery is low.

  • 100% to 11% battery: LED indicator is green.
  • 10% and below: LED indicator is red.

When the battery is low, you can continue using the keyboard for over 500 hours with the backlighting turned off.

Charging

Plug the USB-C cable into the top-right corner of the keyboard. You can continue using the keyboard while it is charging.

Smart Backlighting

The keyboard features an embedded ambient light sensor that reads and adjusts the backlight brightness accordingly.

Backlighting Levels Based on Room Brightness:

The backlight has seven levels.

For light gray keyboards:

Backlighting Behavior and Notifications

The keyboard's backlight behavior is optimized for user experience and battery saving.

  • Bright Environment: When the ambient light is too bright, the keyboard automatically disables the backlight to avoid unnecessary use. This also conserves battery, allowing for longer backlight usage in low-light conditions. You will see a notification if you try to turn on the backlight in such conditions.
  • Low Battery: When the keyboard has 10% battery remaining, the backlight will turn off, and a battery notification will appear on the screen.

F-Key Toggle

Press the [Fn] + [Esc] keys to toggle between Media Keys and F-Keys. A notification will appear to indicate the switch status.

Note: By default, the keyboard functions as Media Keys.

Logitech Flow

You can use the MX Keys S keyboard to work across multiple computers. When paired with a Logitech mouse that supports Flow, such as the MX Master 3S, you can operate and type on multiple computers using the same mouse and keyboard setup via Logitech Flow technology.

You can move your mouse cursor from one computer to another. The MX Keys S keyboard will follow the mouse and switch computers simultaneously. You can even copy and paste between computers. You need to install the Logitech Options+ software on both computers and follow the instructions here.
