1.4 Device Requirements
Pairing Code Requirements
When receiving a Matter product, the product packaging should have the Matter official certification logo. After opening the box, the device body will have a printed or attached pairing code label, as shown in the image. Products missing the pairing code label cannot complete the device addition process using the standard Matter addition flow.
Pairing Status
The device pairing method can be selected on the platform. Tuya's Matter products are in pairing mode by default upon initial power-on. If the device's pairing indicator light is not flashing, it can be reset:
- Power cycle the device 5 times, with a 3-second interval between each power cycle, until the indicator light starts breathing and flashing.
- Plug in the device, press and hold the power button for 5 seconds until the indicator light flashes rapidly.
Uncertified Reminder
When Matter devices have not passed official CSA certification or are only used for debugging, the certificates written to the devices are test versions.
- When adding devices in Home App, Tuya App, and SmartThings App, if prompted with "Product Not Certified," tap "Add Anyway" to complete the subsequent pairing. After the product certificate is certified and the official certificate is re-flashed, the "Uncertified Accessory" pop-up reminder will no longer appear.
- When adding devices in Google Home App, if the product has not passed Matter certification, the Google App will prompt "Product Not Certified." If you need to continue testing, send the Google App test account, test device Matter PID (hexadecimal), and device type to the Tuya PM team or submit a ticket to add to the whitelist.
- After the device completes Matter certification, replace the test version DAC certificate with the official mass production version. This product will no longer prompt "Not Certified."

2 Device Activation and Networking
After confirming that the environment and devices meet the prerequisite requirements, start the pairing process. After the device is powered on, put it into pairing mode. If the device indicator light flashes rapidly, it indicates the device can start pairing. You can choose any App that supports the Matter protocol to add the device.
2.1 Tuya App Adding Devices
Tuya App supports adding Wi-Fi, Gateway, and Thread devices. The addition method differs for devices with different protocols. Currently, Tuya's Zigbee devices only support adding through the Tuya App + Matter Gateway to the Tuya App. After sharing the gateway to a third-party App, Zigbee sub-devices cannot be directly added in the third-party App.
Tuya App Adding Wi-Fi Devices
There are two addition methods:
- Scan QR code pairing / Enter pairing code: Supports Tuya and third-party Matter devices.
- Auto-discovery pairing: Only supports Tuya Matter devices.
Method 1: Scan QR Code Pairing / Enter Pairing Code
- Power on the device and connect your phone to a 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network.
- Put the device into pairing mode.
- Open the Tuya App, tap the "+" icon in the upper right corner, select "Scan," and scan the Matter QR code on the device or enter the 11-digit code from the pairing label.
- Enter the Wi-Fi password. The device is added successfully. You can then start controlling the device.
(Image description: Screenshots show the Tuya App interface for adding a device, scanning a QR code on a Matter plug, entering Wi-Fi credentials, and the device being added successfully.)
Method 2: Auto-Discovery Pairing
Currently, auto-discovery pairing in the Tuya App only supports Tuya's Matter Wi-Fi, Thread, and Gateway devices. Non-Tuya Matter devices do not support automatic discovery; non-Tuya Matter devices can only be paired using Method 1 described above.
Open the Tuya App, tap the "+" icon in the upper right corner, and select "Add Device." The device to be paired will appear. Enter the Wi-Fi password to complete device addition.

3 Device Sharing and Bridging
Device sharing and bridging scenarios include:
- Tuya App sharing Wi-Fi/Thread devices to a third-party App
- Tuya App sharing bridged Zigbee devices to a third-party App
- Third-party App sharing Wi-Fi/Thread devices to Tuya App
After a device is added by any Matter App, you can generate a sharing QR code or sharing code to share it with other Matter Apps.
Important Notes
- Pairing codes and sharing codes are different. Pairing codes are used for initial device activation, while sharing codes are generated after the device is activated and online, used for sharing with other Matter Apps on the same network.
- Bridged (Zigbee) devices can only be shared to third-party Apps after being added in the Tuya App. Zigbee sub-devices cannot be directly added in third-party Apps.
- Sharing codes can only be used once and have a time limit. They need to be regenerated after expiration. If you need to share with another platform, a new sharing code must be generated.
3.1 Tuya App Sharing Matter Devices to Third-Party Apps
- In the Tuya App, open the device you wish to share, tap the settings icon in the upper right corner, and tap "Share Device."
- Select "Matter Share," generate a sharing code or sharing QR code. The generated sharing code can be pasted or scanned by a third-party App for addition.
- Open the third-party App, add the device, and either scan the sharing QR code generated by the Tuya App or paste the sharing code, then complete the subsequent device addition steps.
- After sharing is complete, the Matter Service in the Tuya App and the third-party App will show all connected services for the current device, allowing for fabric management.
(Image description: Screenshots show the Tuya App sharing a device via QR code or code.)
3.2 Tuya App Sharing Bridged Devices to Third-Party Apps
Zigbee bridged devices are not Matter protocol products and do not have pairing codes, so sharing codes cannot be generated directly. Sharing codes must be generated via the gateway bridge to enable bridging to third-party Apps.
- Open the gateway where the Zigbee sub-device is located in the Tuya App. Tap the settings icon in the upper right corner of the gateway panel, select "Share Device," then "Matter Gateway Share," and generate a sharing code or QR code.
- Open the third-party App, add the device, and either scan the sharing QR code generated by the Tuya App or paste the sharing code, then complete the subsequent device addition steps.

3.3 Third-Party App Sharing Devices to Tuya App
Home App Sharing Devices to Tuya App
- Open the device panel in the Home App, tap the settings icon in the lower right corner, enable pairing mode (which is also sharing mode). Generate a sharing code and select "Copy."
- Open the Tuya App, add the device, paste the sharing code, and the device will be shared to the Tuya App. When sharing Thread devices from a third-party App to the Tuya App, a Matter Gateway is not required in the Tuya App; Thread device sharing can be completed directly using the Tuya App.
(Image description: Screenshots show sharing from Apple Home to Tuya App.)
Alexa App Sharing Devices to Tuya App
Open the device panel in the Alexa App, tap the settings icon in the upper right corner, select "Other Assistants or Apps," and generate a sharing code. Tap "Copy," and it can be added by Tuya or other Apps as a sharing code.
(Image description: Screenshots show sharing from Alexa App.)
Google App Sharing Devices to Tuya App
Open the device panel in the Google App, tap the settings icon in the upper right corner, tap "Linked Matter apps & services," generate a sharing QR code or sharing code. Tap "Copy," and it can be added by Tuya or other Apps as a sharing code. The Tuya App has integrated the Google Matter API. When sharing in the Google App, it directly jumps to the Tuya App pairing interface, eliminating the need to generate a pairing code and then scan or paste it.
(Image description: Screenshots show sharing from Google Home to Tuya App.)
4 Device Voice Control
After a device is added to Alexa, Google, or Home App, no additional skill binding is required; you can directly use the smart speaker to control the device.
If you first add the device in the Tuya App, there are two ways to control it by voice:
- Share Matter devices from the Tuya App to a third-party App via Matter. The device can then be controlled and voice-controlled in the third-party App.
- Bind the voice skill for Matter devices from the Tuya App. The device can then be discovered and voice-controlled in third-party Apps.
5 Remote Control and Automation
Adding Tuya's Wi-Fi devices in the Tuya App does not require any Hub. When adding third-party Matter devices, you must add Tuya's Matter Hub to create automations and remotely control third-party Matter devices.
For third-party Apps (Home, Google, Alexa, and SmartThings), both local and remote control require adding a Hub first to start controlling devices, remote control, and creating automations. Refer to the "Hub Requirements" for the Hubs required by each App.
6 Grouping
- Tuya App only supports Tuya devices for grouping; it does not support grouping third-party Matter devices.
- Third-party Apps: Third-party Apps can support grouping devices of the same type across different protocols. For example, in the Home App, Wi-Fi, Thread, and Zigbee lights can form a group, but Wi-Fi lights and Wi-Fi plugs cannot form a group.
7 OTA Upgrade
Open the Tuya App, tap the device control panel, and a pop-up prompt for upgrade will appear on the device panel, or select "Device Upgrade Check" in the settings page to start firmware updates.
- Tuya Matter Wi-Fi devices currently do not support OTA upgrades in third-party Apps; OTA upgrades can only be completed in the Tuya App.
- Tuya Matter Thread devices and gateways can perform OTA upgrades through third-party Apps.
- The Tuya App currently does not support OTA upgrades for third-party devices. To perform OTA upgrades for third-party devices using the Tuya App, you need to purchase a Tuya Matter Gateway to meet the OTA upgrade requirements for third-party devices.
