How to Upload Data from Your Supernova Tester to PATGuard 3
This document provides a troubleshooting guide to ensure correct data uploading from your Seaward tester to the Seaward Software packages. Please review all steps before contacting technical support.
Step 1: Check Serial Cable and Connection
Ensure you are using the Seaward supplied serial cable (RS232). It should have a white tag indicating "For use with the following testers, both Up & Download Only, Supernova..." and the part number 194A919 or 44B113.
If using a Serial to USB adaptor, only an easysync adaptor is guaranteed to work with the Seaward cable. More information can be found at Seaward USB to Serial Port Adaptor or by contacting the sales team.
Step 2: Configure COM Ports
Verify the correct COM port is selected. For serial connections, this is typically COM14.
On the PC:
- Click 'Start'.
- Click 'Settings', then 'Control Panel'.
- In Control Panel, look for 'System' and click on it.
- In the System Properties window, click on the 'Hardware' tab.
- Click on 'Device Manager'.
- In Device Manager, expand 'Ports (COM & LPT)' by clicking the '+' sign.
- Double-click on the Communications Port you are using.
A pop-up window will appear. Click on the 'Port Settings' tab. Ensure your port settings match the following:
- Bits per second: 9600
- Data bits: 8
- Parity: None
- Stop bits: 2
- Flow control: Xon/Xoff
Click 'OK' to save these settings.
Step 3: Configure Software Settings
Ensure the software settings are correct for the download.
For PATGuard Elite and Pro:
- Load your software and open a new blank database (File > New...). Name the file as desired.
- Add the tester to the software database. Near the bottom left of the software screen, click the 'Test Instruments' tab.
- Click the 'Add Test Instrument...' icon.
- A pop-up will appear. Enter the make and serial number of your tester. Click 'OK'. Your tester should now appear in the list.
- To begin the download, press the download button [download-icon]. A pop-up will appear. Ensure the correct tester and COM Port are selected.
- Click 'OK' in the download pop-up.
- Click the 'Settings...' button within the download pop-up to verify communication settings (Bits per second: 9600, Data bits: 8, Parity: None, Stop bits: 2). Click 'OK' to confirm.
- Click 'OK' again to start the transmission. You will be prompted to “Start the transmission now...”.
For PatGuard Lite:
- Load your software and select the option “Download a Tester”.
- A pop-up will appear. Ensure the correct Instrument Type and COM Port are selected. Click 'OK'.
- You will be prompted to “Enter a New Filename” for the downloaded database. Name the file as you wish and press 'Save'.
- You will then be prompted to “Start the transmission Now...”.
Step 4: Initiate Download on Tester
Navigate to “Download Results” on your tester's main menu and press the green button.
Ensure your tester's screen is set up as follows:
DOWNLOAD OPTIONS:
- OUTPUT CONNECTION: RS232
- BAUD RATE: 9600
- DOWNLOAD FORMAT: SSS
Press 'OK' on the tester once the parameters are correct.
You will then be taken to a search function. Set search parameters as needed, or leave the screen as is to download all data. Press the soft key below the 'Start Search' option.
Step 5: Data Transfer and Processing
A process bar will appear on the tester's screen, and the software will indicate data being received.
The software will process the data, populating your Sites, Locations, and Assets within the database.
