1. Important Safety Instructions

Read and understand all safety and operating instructions before the radio is operated.

Retain instruction: The safety and operating instructions should be retained for future reference.

Heed warnings: All warnings on the appliance and operating instructions should be followed.

Follow all operations and use instructions.

Water and moisture: The appliance should not be used near water. Do not use near a bathtub, washbowl, laundry tub, kitchen sink, wet basement, swimming pool, etc.

Cleaning: Unplug the radio from the AC power outlet before cleaning. Use only a damp cloth for cleaning the exterior of the radio.

Placement: Do not place the radio on an unstable cart, stand, bracket or table. The radio may fall, causing serious personal injury and damage to the radio.

Ventilation: This radio should be situated so that its location or position does not interfere with its proper ventilation. For example, the radio should not be used on a bed, sofa, rug or other soft surfaces that may block the ventilation openings. It should not be placed in a built-in situation like a cabinet that may reduce air flow through the ventilation openings.

Power sources: The radio should be operated only from the type of power source indicated on the marking label. If you are not sure of the type of power supply to your home, consult your radio dealer, Power Company or Sangean.

AC adaptor: The AC adaptor should be positioned so it is not walked on, pinched, or items placed on top of it. Pay particular attention to wires at plugs, convenience receptacles, and the point where they exit from the unit. Unplug the AC adaptor by gripping the adaptor, not the wire. Operate the radio using only the current type of power source indicated. If you are not sure of the type of power supply to your home, consult your dealer, local power company or Sangean.

Overloading: Do not overload wall outlets or extension cords. This can result in a risk of fire or electrical shock. Never insert objects of any kind into the radio through any openings. The objects may touch dangerous voltage points or short out parts. This could cause a fire or electrical shock and damage the radio.

Unattended use: If the radio is left unattended or unused for long periods of time, unplug it from the wall outlet. This will prevent damage caused by lightning or power line surges.

Battery removal: If the radio is left unattended and unused for a long period of time, remove the batteries. The batteries may leak and damage furniture of your radio.

Servicing: Do not attempt to service the radio yourself. Removing the cover may expose you to dangerous voltage and will void the warranty.

Foreign objects: Never push objects of any kind into this radio through openings as they may touch dangerous voltage points or short-out parts that could result in a fire or electric shock and damage the radio. Never spill liquid of any kind on the product.

Service personnel: The appliance should be serviced by qualified service personnel only when:

  • The AC power supply cord or the plug has been damaged.
  • Objects have fallen or liquid has been spilled into the radio.
  • The radio has been exposed to rain or water.
  • The radio does not appear to operate normally or exhibits a marked change in performance.

Installing Batteries in the Remote Control

The remote control requires two AAA batteries (not included). To install them:

  1. Open the battery compartment on the back of the remote control.
  2. Insert two AAA batteries, observing polarity as shown in the diagram inside the compartment.

Connecting the AC Power Adapter

The WFR-32 is powered by the supplied adapter. Ensure your wall socket voltage is within the 100-240 Vac, 50/60Hz range.

Connect the adapter's plug to the DC IN socket (18) on the radio, then plug the adapter into the wall socket. Turn on the Power Switch (19) at the back of the radio.

Initial Setup

Upon powering on, the radio displays "Sangean" and a startup progress bar. Once complete, it enters the initial setup process, guiding you through language and network configuration.

Setting the Menu Language

The language selection menu appears on startup. English is the default. Select your desired language using the navigation controls as described in the "Navigation and Text Input" section.

The Mobile App's Privacy Policy

A QR code and URL (https://www.mediayou.net/policy.php) are displayed for the Privacy Policy. Read this before using online features. Agreeing to the terms is required for internet radio functionality.

Configuring the Network Connection

The setup wizard asks if you want to check for network connections on power-on (Yes/No).

Pairing Your Bluetooth Device for the First Time

  1. Turn on the radio.
  2. Select the Bluetooth option in the radio's main menu.
  3. Activate Bluetooth on your device.
  4. On your device, select "WFR-32" from the Bluetooth list (or the custom name if changed).

Note: A "0000" passcode may be required for older Bluetooth versions.

Once paired, "Bluetooth Connected" will display. You can now play music from your device.

Notes on Bluetooth:

  • If two devices pair simultaneously, the first one to link may prevent the second from finding the radio.
  • Taking the device out of range temporarily disconnects it; it will reconnect automatically when back in range.
  • If "WFR-32" appears but connection fails, delete it from your device's list and re-pair.
  • Effective range is approximately 10 meters (30 feet).
  • Performance may vary by device.
  • Mobile phone activities (calls, texts) might temporarily mute or disconnect Bluetooth streaming.

Audio Playback in the Bluetooth Mode

Once connected, play music from your Bluetooth device. The radio display shows cover art, device name, artist, track, album, and progress. Adjust volume using the radio's controls or your device. Use your device's controls or the remote's Play/Pause (g), Next (n), Previous (h) buttons to control playback.

Audio Playback from a Previously Paired Bluetooth Device

The WFR-32 remembers up to 8 paired devices. It attempts to reconnect to the last connected device. If unavailable, it tries the next most recent.

Disconnecting Your Bluetooth Device

Turn off Bluetooth on your device or switch the radio to another mode (e.g., internet radio). "Bluetooth Disconnected" will display. To connect a different device, press the pair button on the remote or long-press the volume control on the radio.

10. Listening to Music Using the Aux In Jack

Connect an external device (iPod, MP3 player, CD player) to the radio's Aux-in port (16) using a 3.5mm audio cable.

  1. Connect the device.
  2. Ensure both devices are turned on.
  3. Select the AUX option in the radio's main menu.
  4. Audio will play through the radio's speaker. Adjust volume with the radio's Volume Control (4) or remote Volume buttons (u).

11. Listening to Music Using the Headphones Jack

Connect a pair of headphones with a 3.5mm plug to the Headphone jack (17) on the back of the radio. The internal speaker will automatically disable.

Recommendation: Lower the volume before connecting headphones and gradually increase it to a safe listening level to avoid hearing damage.

Note: Excessive sound pressure can cause hearing loss. Avoid listening at high volume levels for extended periods.
