When SmartContrast is enabled, it analyzes the displayed content in real-time to adjust color and control backlight brightness. When watching videos or playing games, this feature dynamically enhances contrast for an enjoyable entertainment experience.

4. Adaptive Sync

The PC gaming experience has always been unsatisfactory due to the lack of synchronization between the GPU and the display. Sometimes, the display updates once, while the GPU provides many new frames, and the display shows only parts of each frame as a single image. This is called "tearing." Gamers can fix tearing issues using a feature called "v-sync," but the image may become unstable because the GPU waits for the display to request an update before providing new frames. Additionally, using v-sync reduces mouse input response speed and overall frame rate. AMD Adaptive Sync technology eliminates all these issues. This technology allows the GPU to update the display as soon as new frames are ready, providing gamers with an incredibly smooth, ultra-fast, and tear-free gaming experience.

¹ This display is equipped with SoftBlue Technology, which enhances visual comfort and effectively reduces the adverse health effects of prolonged exposure to blue light. The low-blue light panel design ensures that the display emits less than 50% of its total light output in the 400-500 nanometer wavelength range, similar to the 415-455 nanometer wavelength range. This design provides optimal visual comfort, reduces eye strain, and helps maintain focus for extended periods. Furthermore, SoftBlue LED technology has received TÜV Rheinland hardware-level low-blue light certification, confirming its effectiveness in reducing blue light radiation.

8. Customer Service and Warranty

8.1 Philips Flat Panel Monitor Pixel Defect Policy

Philips is committed to providing the highest quality products. The company utilizes the most advanced manufacturing procedures and implements strict quality control. However, pixel or sub-pixel defects in TFT-LCD panels are sometimes unavoidable. No manufacturer can guarantee that all screens will be free of pixel defects. Philips guarantees that any monitor with an unacceptable number of defects will be repaired or replaced under warranty. The following describes different types of pixel defects and the acceptable defect levels for each type. To qualify for warranty repair or replacement, the number of pixel defects on the TFT-LCD panel must exceed these acceptable levels. For example, less than 0.0004% of sub-pixels may be defective. Furthermore, given that some types of pixel defects or combinations are more noticeable than others, Philips has established higher quality standards for these types. This policy is effective worldwide.

Pixel and Sub-pixel Defects

A pixel, or picture element, consists of three sub-pixels of primary colors: red, green, and blue. Many pixels together form an image. When all sub-pixels are illuminated, the three colored sub-pixels together appear as a white pixel. When they are all dark, the three colored sub-pixels together appear as a black pixel. Other combinations of bright and dark sub-pixels will appear as single-colored pixels.

Types of Pixel Defects

Pixel and sub-pixel defects appear on the screen in different forms. There are two categories of pixel defects, each with several sub-pixel defects.

Bright Pixel Defects

A bright pixel is a pixel or sub-pixel that is always lit. That is, a bright pixel is a sub-pixel that remains lit when displaying a dark pattern. The types of bright pixel defects are as follows:

Note: The brightness of red or blue bright pixels exceeds the surrounding pixels by more than 50%; the brightness of green bright pixels exceeds the surrounding pixels by more than 30%.

Dark Pixel Defects

A dark pixel is a pixel or sub-pixel that is always off. That is, a black pixel is a sub-pixel that remains dark when displaying a bright pattern. The types of dark pixel defects are as follows:

Total Number of Defective Pixels

Total number of bright or dark pixels of all types.

Note: 1 or 2 adjacent defective sub-pixels = 1 defective pixel.

Pixel Defect Tolerance

To qualify for warranty repair or replacement due to pixel defects, the TFT display panel of Philips flat panel monitors must have more pixel and sub-pixel defects than the tolerances listed in the table below.

Bright Pixel DefectsAcceptable Level
1 bright sub-pixel2
2 adjacent bright sub-pixels1
3 adjacent bright sub-pixels (1 white pixel)0
Distance between two defective bright pixels*>15mm
Total number of bright pixels of all types2
Dark Pixel DefectsAcceptable Level
1 dark sub-pixel4 or fewer
2 adjacent dark sub-pixels2 or fewer
3 adjacent dark sub-pixels1
Distance between two defective dark pixels*>15mm
Total number of dark pixels of all types4 or fewer
Total Number of Defective PixelsAcceptable Level
Total number of bright or dark pixels of all types5 or fewer

Compact Pixel Defect

Given that adjacent identical pixel and sub-pixel defects are more noticeable, Philips also sets tolerance specifications for compact pixel defects.

Question 8: Can I change the monitor's color settings?

Answer: Yes, you can change the color settings via the OSD control. Follow these steps:

  1. Color Temperature: Includes 7 settings: Native, 5000K, 6500K, 7500K, 8200K, 9300K, and 11500K. When set to 5000K, the panel displays "warm colors, showing a red-white tone"; when the color temperature is 11500K, it displays "cool colors, showing a blue-white tone."
  2. sRGB: This is a standard that ensures correct color exchange between different devices (such as digital cameras, displays, printers, scanners, etc.).
  3. User Define: Users can adjust red, green, and blue to select their preferred color settings.

Note: The color temperature measurement value is expressed in absolute temperature (Kelvin). Lower Kelvin temperatures (e.g., 2004K) are redder; higher temperatures (e.g., 9300K) are bluer. Neutral temperature is white, 6504K.

Question 9: Can I connect my LCD monitor to a PC, workstation, or Mac?

Answer: Yes. All Philips LCD monitors are fully compatible with standard PCs, Macs, and workstations. When connecting this monitor to a Mac system, you will need a cable adapter. For detailed information, please contact your Philips sales representative.

Question 10: Is the Philips LCD monitor plug-and-play?

Answer: Yes, these monitors support plug-and-play functionality in Windows 11/10 and Mac OSX.

Question 11: What is image retention, ghosting, or image persistence on an LCD panel?

Answer: Prolonged display of static or fixed images may cause "image retention," also known as "ghosting" or "image persistence." "Image retention," "ghosting," or "image persistence" is a common phenomenon in LCD panel technology. In most cases, "image retention," "ghosting," or "image persistence" will gradually disappear over time after the monitor is turned off.

Warning: Always activate the moving screen saver when the monitor is unattended. If the LCD monitor will display static or unchanging content, always enable the screen refresh application. Failure to activate the screen saver or screen refresh application may result in severe "image retention," "ghosting," or "image persistence" that may be permanent and irreparable. Such damage is not covered by the warranty.
