2. Installing the Headset on Your Helmet
2.1 Helmet Installation
2.1.1 Using the Clamp Unit
- Loosen the two screws on the back plate of the clamp unit using the included Allen wrench.
- Insert the back plate of the clamp unit between the internal padding and external shell of the left side of the helmet.
- Tighten the two screws until the clamp unit is fastened firmly to the helmet.
- Attach the main unit to the clamp unit until you hear a click.
2.1.2 Using the Glued Surface Mounting Plate
If the clamp unit cannot be installed on the helmet, use the glued surface mounting plate to attach the clamp unit to the helmet's surface.
- Attach the adhesive tape of the glued surface mounting plate to the helmet.
- Ensure the glued surface mounting plate adheres firmly to the helmet. Maximum adhesion occurs after 24 hours.
- Attach the main unit to the glued surface mounting plate until you hear a click.
2.2 Installing the Speakers
- Attach the hook and loop fasteners for speakers to the ear pockets inside the helmet.
- Attach the speakers to the hook and loop fasteners.
Note: If the helmet has deep ear pockets, use the speaker pads to position the speakers closer to your ears.
2.3 Installing the Microphone
2.3.1 Installing the Attachable Boom Microphone
- Attach the hook and loop fastener for the attachable boom microphone on the inside surface of the left external shell.
- Attach the attachable boom microphone's mounting plate to the hook and loop fastener.
- Adjust the head of the microphone so the tab faces away from your mouth.
- Align the arrows on the microphone and speaker cables and insert the microphone cable into the speaker cable.
- Insert the speaker connector into the speaker port to connect it to the main unit.
- Close the cover of the speaker cable to lock the cable to the port.
Note: Use the boom microphone holder after attaching the hook and loop fastener for the boom microphone holder to ensure secure installation.
2.3.2 Installing the Wired Microphone
For full-face helmets, use the wired microphone.
- Attach the included hook and loop fastener for the wired microphone to the inside of the helmet's chin guard.
- Attach the wired microphone to the hook and loop fastener for the wired microphone.
- Align the arrows on the microphone and speaker cables and insert the microphone cable into the speaker cable.
- Insert the speaker connector into the speaker port to connect it to the main unit.
- Close the cover of the speaker cable to lock the cable to the port.
3. Getting Started
3.1 Buttons
The headset features a Phone Button and a Jog Dial.
3.2 Downloadable Sena Software
3.2.1 Sena Motorcycles App
Pair your phone with the headset to use the Sena Motorcycles App for quicker, easier setup and management. The app allows for device configuration settings.
Download the Sena Motorcycles App from the Google Play Store or App Store.
3.2.2 Sena Device Manager
The Sena Device Manager allows firmware upgrades and settings configuration directly from your PC or Apple computer. Download the Sena Device Manager from sena.com.
3.3 Legend
Button and Jog Dial operations:
- Tap: Tap button/Jog Dial the specified number of times.
- Press and Hold: Press and hold button/Jog Dial for the specified amount of time.
- Rotate: Rotate Jog Dial clockwise (right) or counterclockwise (left).
- Rotate while Pressing: Rotate while pressing Jog Dial clockwise (right) or counterclockwise (left).
- Audible prompt: Voice feedback, e.g., "Hello".
3.4 Powering On and Off
- Powering On: Press and hold the Jog Dial for 1 second. The headset will display "READY".
- Powering Off: Tap the Jog Dial once. The headset will display "GOOD BYE".
3.5 Charging
Connect the USB Power & Data Cable (USB-C) to the DC Power Charging & Firmware Upgrade Port. The headset will be fully charged in about 1.5 hours. Charging time may vary depending on the charging method.
Note: Use 3rd party USB chargers approved by FCC, CE, IC, or other locally approved agencies. Non-approved chargers may cause fire, explosion, leakage, or other hazards.
3.6 Checking the Battery Level
The LCD display shows the battery level:
- High:
- Medium:
- Low:
- Extremely Low:
Note: A "Low battery" voice prompt will be heard when the battery is low during use.
3.7 Volume Adjustment
Raise or lower the volume by rotating the Jog Dial clockwise or counterclockwise. Volume is set and maintained independently for each audio source (phone, intercom), even after rebooting the headset.
- Volume Up: Rotate Jog Dial clockwise (R).
- Volume Down: Rotate Jog Dial counterclockwise (L).
The VOLUME BAR on the display indicates the current volume level.
4. Pairing the Headset with Other Bluetooth Devices
Pairing enables Bluetooth devices to recognize and communicate with each other within range. The headset can pair with multiple devices like a mobile phone or GPS. It can also pair with up to three other Sena headsets.
4.1 Phone Pairing
There are three ways to pair a phone:
4.1.1 Initially Pairing the 5S
The headset enters phone pairing mode automatically upon initial power-on or after:
- Executing the Factory Reset feature.
- Executing the Delete All Pairings feature.
Procedure:
- Press and hold the Phone Button and the Jog Dial for 1 second. You will hear "Phone pairing".
- On your mobile phone, enable Bluetooth and select "Sena 5S" from the list of detected devices.
- If prompted for a PIN, enter 0000.
Note: Phone pairing mode lasts for 3 minutes. Tap the Phone Button or Jog Dial to cancel.
4.1.2 Pairing When the 5S is Turned Off
Procedure:
- While the headset is off, press and hold the Phone Button and Jog Dial until you hear "Phone pairing".
- On your mobile phone, enable Bluetooth and select "Sena 5S" from the list of detected devices.
- If prompted for a PIN, enter 0000.
4.1.3 Pairing When the 5S is Turned On
Procedure:
- When the 5S is turned on, press and hold the Phone Button for 5 seconds. You will hear "Phone pairing".
- On your mobile phone, enable Bluetooth and select "Sena 5S" from the list of detected devices.
- If prompted for a PIN, enter 0000.
4.2 Second Mobile Phone Pairing
Procedure:
- Execute "Second Mobile Phone Pairing". You will hear "Second mobile phone pairing".
- On your mobile phone, enable Bluetooth and select "Sena 5S" from the list of detected devices.
- If prompted for a PIN, enter 0000.
4.3 Advanced Selective Pairing: Hands-Free or A2DP Stereo
This feature allows the headset to establish two Bluetooth profiles: Hands-Free or A2DP Stereo. Advanced Selective Pairing enables the headset to separate profiles for connection with two devices.
4.3.1 Phone Selective Pairing - Hands-Free Profile
Procedure:
- Execute "Phone Selective Pairing". You will hear "Phone selective pairing".
- On your mobile phone, enable Bluetooth and select "Sena 5S" from the list of detected devices.
- If prompted for a PIN, enter 0000.
4.3.2 Media Selective Pairing - A2DP Profile
Procedure:
- Execute "Media Selective Pairing". You will hear "Media selective pairing".
- On your mobile phone, enable Bluetooth and select "Sena 5S" from the list of detected devices.
- If prompted for a PIN, enter 0000.
4.4 GPS Pairing
Procedure:
- Execute "GPS Pairing". You will hear "GPS pairing".
- On your GPS navigation screen, select "Sena 5S" from the list of detected devices.
- If prompted for a PIN, enter 0000.
5. Mobile Phone Usage
5.1 Making and Answering Calls
LCD Display Call Status:
- Incoming Call:
- Outgoing call:
- On the Phone Call:
- Reject a call:
- Answer a Call: Tap the Jog Dial or Phone Button.
- Reject a Call: Press and hold the Jog Dial for 2 seconds.
- Call a Voice Assistant: Tap the Jog Dial once.
- End a Call: Tap the Jog Dial once or press and hold the Jog Dial for 2 seconds.
5.2 Speed Dialing
5.2.1 Assigning Speed Dial Presets
Speed Dial Presets can be assigned in the settings menu, accessible through the Sena Device Manager or Sena Motorcycles App.
5.2.2 Using Speed Dial Presets
- Enter Speed Dial Mode: Tap the Jog Dial twice. You will hear "Speed dial".
- Navigate between Speed Dial Presets:
- Navigate Forward: Rotate Jog Dial clockwise (R).
- Navigate Backward: Rotate Jog Dial counterclockwise (L).
- Call a Speed Dial Preset Number: Tap the Jog Dial once. You will hear "Speed dial (#)".
- Redial Last Number: Tap the Jog Dial once. You will hear "Last number redial".
6. Stereo Music
6.1 Playing Music with Bluetooth Devices
- Play/Pause Music: Press and hold the Jog Dial for 1 second. You will hear "[Beep, Beep]".
- Adjust Volume:
- Volume Up: Rotate Jog Dial clockwise (R).
- Volume Down: Rotate Jog Dial counterclockwise (L).
- Track Forward/Backward:
- Track Forward: Rotate Jog Dial clockwise (R).
- Track Backward: Rotate Jog Dial counterclockwise (L).
6.2 Music Sharing
Share stereo music with an intercom friend during a two-way intercom conversation. To terminate music sharing, return to the intercom conversation.
To start or terminate music sharing, press the Jog Dial for 1 second during an intercom conversation until you hear a double beep. To track forward or back, rotate the Jog Dial clockwise or counterclockwise while pressing it.
Music Sharing On/Off: Press and hold the Jog Dial for 1 second. You will hear "[Beep, Beep]".
Note:
- Both users can remotely control music playback (track forward/back).
- Music sharing pauses during phone calls or GPS instructions.
- Audio Multitasking disables music sharing if an intercom call is made.
7. Bluetooth Intercom
Up to three people can communicate via intercom by pairing their headsets.
Pairing with Intercom Friends
7.1 Intercom Pairing
There are two ways to pair the headset:
7.1.1 Using the Smart Intercom Pairing (SIP)
SIP allows quick pairing with friends by scanning a QR code on the Sena Motorcycles App, eliminating the need to remember button operations.
- Pair your mobile phone with the headset.
- Open the Sena Motorcycles App and tap the "Smart Intercom Pairing Menu".
- Scan the QR code displayed on your friend's mobile phone. Your friend can display the QR code by tapping the QR code icon on the Sena Motorcycles App.
- Tap "Save" and verify that your friend is paired correctly.
- Tap "Scan" and repeat steps 3-4 to pair with additional friends.
Note: SIP is not compatible with Sena products using Bluetooth 3.0 or below.
7.1.2 Using the Button
Pairing Headset A with Headset B:
- Press and hold the Jog Dials of two headsets for 5 seconds until you hear "Intercom pairing".
Repeat step 1 to pair with additional friends (C & D).

7.2 Two-Way Intercom
7.2.1 Intercom Conversation with Intercom Friend
Start or end an intercom conversation by tapping the Jog Dial.
- Tap once for Intercom Friend 1: Start/End with Intercom Friend 1.
- Tap twice for Intercom Friend 2: Start/End with Intercom Friend 2.
- Tap three times for Intercom Friend 3: Start/End with Intercom Friend 3.
7.3 Universal Intercom
Engage in two-way intercom conversations with users of non-Sena Bluetooth headsets. Only one non-Sena headset can be paired at a time. Intercom distance depends on the paired headset's performance. Pairing a non-Sena headset may disconnect other paired Bluetooth devices.
1. Execute Universal Intercom in the Headset Configuration Menu:
- Access Configuration Menu: Press and hold the Jog Dial for 10 seconds. You will hear "Configuration menu".
- Navigate Between Menu Options: Rotate Jog Dial clockwise (R) or counterclockwise (L).
- Execute Menu Options: Tap the Jog Dial once.
2. Put the non-Sena Bluetooth headset in Pairing Mode. The headset will automatically pair with the non-Sena Bluetooth headset.
8. Function Priority and Firmware Upgrades
8.1 Function Priority
The 5S operates with the following priority order:
- Highest: Mobile phone
- Intercom
- Music sharing via Bluetooth stereo music
- Lowest: Bluetooth stereo music
Lower priority functions are interrupted by higher priority functions.
Note: If music is selected as the audio source priority, the order changes:
- Highest: Mobile phone
- Bluetooth stereo music
- Lowest: Intercom
- Music sharing via Bluetooth stereo music
8.2 Firmware Upgrades
Upgrade firmware using the Sena Device Manager. Visit sena.com for the Sena Device Manager.
9. Configuration Setting
9.1 Headset Configuration Setting
Access the Configuration Menu: Press and hold the Jog Dial for 10 seconds. You will hear "Configuration menu".
Navigate Between Menu Options: Rotate Jog Dial clockwise (R) or counterclockwise (L).
Execute Menu Options: Tap the Jog Dial once.

9.1.1 Delete All Pairings
Deletes all Bluetooth pairing information stored in the headset.
9.1.2 Remote Control Pairing
Remotely control the headset using Sena Remote Control devices (sold separately).
- Turn on the headset and the Remote Control device.
- Execute "Remote Control Pairing".
- Enter pairing mode on the Remote Control device. The headset will automatically connect in pairing mode.
9.2 Software Configuration Setting
Change headset settings via the Sena Device Manager or the Sena Motorcycles App.

9.2.1 Speed Dial
Assign phone numbers for speed dialing to make calls quickly.
9.2.2 Headset Language
Select the device language. The selected language is maintained even after headset reboot.
9.2.3 Audio Equalizer (Default: Off)
Adjust the decibel level of different frequency ranges:
- Balance: Adjusts all frequency ranges to the same volume level (0 dB).
- Bass Boost: Increases bass range (20 Hz - 250 Hz).
- Mid Boost: Increases mid range (250 Hz - 4 kHz).
- Treble Boost: Increases high range (4 kHz - 20 kHz).
9.2.4 VOX Phone (Default: Enable)
Answer incoming calls by voice. Say "Hello" loudly or blow into the microphone when you hear a ringtone. VOX Phone is temporarily disabled when connected to intercom. If disabled, tap the Jog Dial or Phone Button to answer.
9.2.5 VOX Intercom (Default: Disable)
Initiate intercom conversations by voice. Say "Hello" loudly or blow into the microphone. Intercom terminates automatically after 20 seconds of silence. Manual termination via Jog Dial is also possible. If intercom is started manually and ended by voice, manual start is temporarily disabled. Tap Jog Dial to restart. This prevents unintentional connections from wind noise. Voice intercom can be resumed after headset reboot.
9.2.6 Audio Source Priority (Default: Intercom)
Select priority between intercom and music (including GPS instructions and message notifications). Music is interrupted during intercom conversations if intercom has higher priority. Intercom conversations are interrupted by music if music has higher priority.
Note: Audio Source Priority is active only when Audio Multitasking is disabled.
9.2.7 Audio Multitasking™ (Default: Disable)
Allows hearing audio from two features simultaneously. When enabled, phone calls, GPS instructions, and intercom conversations can overlay background music or GPS app audio at a reduced volume. Adjusting foreground audio volume also adjusts background audio volume. Background audio level can be adjusted using the Sena Device Manager or Sena Motorcycles App. HD Intercom, HD Voice, and Audio Source Priority are temporarily disabled when Audio Multitasking is enabled.

A. GPS instructions can be heard during phone calls; volume for both sources is adjustable.
B. GPS app directions are heard in the background during intercom conversations.
Note:
- Audio Multitasking activates during two-way intercom conversations with compatible headsets.
- When disabled, background audio returns to its independent volume level.
- Audio Multitasking has limited usage for iOS devices.
- Restart the headset (power off and on) for Audio Multitasking to function correctly.
- Some GPS devices may not support this feature.
9.2.8 Background Volume (Default: Level 5)
Adjustable only when Audio Multitasking is on. Level 9 is highest, 0 is lowest.
9.2.9 HD Intercom (Default: Enable)
Enhances two-way intercom audio quality from normal to HD. If disabled, intercom audio reverts to normal quality.
Note: HD Intercom has a shorter range than normal intercom. HD Intercom is temporarily disabled when Audio Multitasking is enabled.
9.2.10 HD Voice (Default: Enable)
Enables high-definition phone calls for crisp and clear audio. Incoming phone calls interrupt intercom conversations, and audio from the SR10 is not heard during intercom conversations.
Note: Refer to your Bluetooth device manufacturer for HD Voice compatibility. HD Voice is active only when Audio Multitasking is disabled.
9.2.11 Voice Prompt (Default: Enable)
Voice Prompts can be disabled via software settings, but some prompts are always active (headset configuration menu, battery level indicator, speed dial).
9.2.12 Advanced Noise Control™ (Always On)
Reduces background noise during intercom conversations.

10.1 Fault Reset
If the headset is not working properly, perform a fault reset:
- Locate the pinhole reset button on the back of the main unit.
- Gently insert a paperclip into the hole and tap the Fault Reset Button.
The headset will shut down.
Note: Fault Reset does not restore factory default settings.
10.2 Factory Reset
Erase all settings and restore the headset to factory defaults:
- Press and hold the Phone Button and Jog Dial for 10 seconds. You will hear "Factory reset".
- The headset will display the configuration menu.
- Tap the Jog Dial once. You will hear "Headset reset, good-bye".
Note: If the Phone Button is pressed or the Jog Dial is not pressed within 5 seconds, the reset is canceled, and the headset returns to standby mode with a "Canceled" voice prompt.
