Bosch Extractor Hood: Operating and Installation Instructions

Brand: Bosch

Product Type: Extractor Hood

Appliance Description

This section details the components of the extractor hood:

Operating Modes

The extractor hood can operate in two modes:

Exhaust-air mode:

The extractor fan draws kitchen vapours through the grease filter and expels them into the atmosphere. The grease filter traps solid particles, keeping the kitchen free of grease and odours. Special care is required when operating simultaneously with other combustion appliances (e.g., gas heaters) that share a chimney, to ensure adequate fresh air supply to prevent the risk of combustion gas poisoning.

Circulating-air mode:

This mode requires an activated carbon filter to neutralize odours. Vapours are purified by the grease and activated carbon filters and recirculated back into the kitchen. Replacement filters are available from specialist outlets.

Operating Procedure

For effective vapour removal:

Lighting: The light can be switched on or off independently of the fan.

Controls typically include a light switch (Off/On) and ventilator speed settings (0, 1, 2, 3).

Filters and Maintenance

Grease Filters:

Metal filters trap grease particles. They are made from non-combustible metal. As filters saturate with grease, the risk of fire increases, and hood efficiency decreases. Regular cleaning reduces fire risk from heat build-up.

Cleaning:

Activated Carbon Filter:

Used for neutralizing odours in recirculating mode. Filters become saturated with grease, increasing fire risk and reducing effectiveness. Replace the activated carbon filter annually for normal use (1-2 hours daily). Use only original filters for optimal performance. Old filters can be disposed of as household refuse.

Diagram shows removing metal filters by pressing a catch and folding them down. It also shows inserting activated carbon filters into the fan motor area and rotating them to lock.

Cleaning and Care

Always isolate the hood from the power supply before cleaning.

General Cleaning:

Stainless Steel Surfaces: Use a mild, non-abrasive stainless steel cleaner, cleaning in the direction of the grind/polish. A specific cleaner (no. 461731) is recommended.

Aluminium, Coated, and Plastic Surfaces: Do not use dry cloths. Use mild window cleaning agent. Avoid aggressive, acidic, or caustic cleaners.

Replacing Light Bulbs:

  1. Isolate power.
  2. Remove grease filters.
  3. Press down the bulb cover and disconnect from the light strip.
  4. Replace bulb with a standard filament bulb (max 40 W, E14 holder).
  5. Reattach the lamp cover.
  6. Re-insert grease filters.
  7. Restore power.

Observe warranty regulations in the enclosed service booklet.

Exhaust-air Mode Details:

Exhaust air is discharged through a ventilation shaft or directly outside. It should not be directed into flues used for other purposes or shafts ventilating rooms with fireplaces. Discharge must comply with official regulations. When used with other combustion appliances sharing a chimney, ensure adequate fresh air supply to prevent underpressure (< 4 Pa) and risk of combustion gas poisoning. Unrestricted operation is possible with a recirculating mode and activated carbon filter. A telescopic wall box is recommended for external discharge.

Diagram shows airflow in exhaust-air mode and dimensions for the hood and ducting, including minimum distances of 550mm for electric and 650mm for gas hobs.

Pipework Requirements:

Diagrams illustrate one-way flap installation and air connector adapters for 150mm and 120mm pipes.

Electrical Connection:

WARNING: APPLIANCE MUST BE EARTHED.

Fitting a Plug: Connect wires according to colour code: Green/Yellow to Earth (E/⏚), Blue to Neutral (N), Brown to Live (L).

Connect to an earthed socket installed per regulations, preferably behind the chimney panelling, on its own circuit. If the socket becomes inaccessible, ensure a permanently installed disconnector is present.

Direct wiring into the mains must be done by a qualified electrician, including a suitable separator (circuit breaker/contactor) with a contact gap of over 3 mm.

If the connecting cable is damaged, it must be replaced by the manufacturer or a qualified person.

Electrical Data: Found on the appliance nameplate.

Safety: Always disconnect from the electricity supply before repairs.

The hood has a connecting cable length of 1.30 m and complies with EC regulations for RF interference suppression.

Installation Steps (Wall Mounting):

  1. Remove grease filter.
  2. Mark a vertical line on the wall for hood centreline.
  3. Use template to mark screw positions. Ensure correct minimum distances (550 mm electric, 650 mm gas).
  4. Drill holes (5 x 8 mm for hood, 4 x 8 mm for flue brackets) and insert wall plugs.
  5. Screw on the 2 brackets for flue ducts.
  6. Screw in the middle screw (approx. 5 mm protrusion) to aid hanging.
  7. Hook the hood onto the middle screw.
  8. Insert the remaining 4 screws with washers, aligning the hood before tightening.
  9. Connect the air outlet pipe.
  10. Connect the hood to the electricity supply.
  11. Stainless Steel Model: Remove protective film from flue ducts. Be cautious of sharp edges inside flue panelling; wear gloves.
  12. Screw the upper flue duct to the fixing bracket.
  13. Position the lower flue duct, screw it to the hood from below, and then to the fixing bracket. Protect surfaces during assembly.
  14. Re-insert the grease filter.

Diagrams illustrate drilling, bracket mounting, hanging the hood on a screw, connecting flue ducts, and re-inserting filters.
