Replacement Contact Blocks
Easily-installed replacement contact blocks are available for both heavy-duty IEC and double-insulated limit switches, including mini-DIN models. Note: Limit switches come standard with snap-action contacts. To replace a contact block, remove the limit switch cover, carefully remove the old contact block, and install the replacement. Contact blocks are supplied with an adapter for larger ABM and ABP switches; remove this adapter for mini-DIN AAP models.

Notes:
- Minimum temperatures assume a dry atmosphere to prevent freezing.
- Some actuators with heavy springs may not function correctly in a horizontal position.
- Positive opening is ensured by a rigid mechanism that forces the N.C. contact to open if the snap-action mechanism fails. This is generally not considered to work properly with actuators that have flexible components, such as spring or rubber rollers.
- The speed at which snap-action contact blocks are tested has no influence on the switch action. For spring actuators, changeover time may vary from 1ms to 3ms.
- Slow-action contacts require a minimum operating speed to prevent arcing.
IEC Limit Switches Bar Charts
Limit switch types
- Snap action contact: Contact motion is independent of actuator speed, ensuring reliable performance even with slow-moving actuators.
- Slow make/slow break contacts: Contact motion is dependent on actuator speed.
Terminal identification (IEC)
Terminals are marked with two digits. The first digit indicates the pole (circuit), and the second indicates the contact type.
- 11-12: N.C. contact of pole no. 1
- 13-14: N.O. contact of pole no. 1
- 21-22: N.C. contact of pole no. 2
- 23-24: N.O. contact of pole no. 2
Terminal Markings:
Terminal No. | Type | European |
---|---|---|
11-12 | N.C. contact of pole no. 1 | 1 |
13-14 | N.O. contact of pole no. 2 | 1 |
21-22 | N.C. contact of pole no. 2 | 2 |
23-24 | N.O. contact of pole no. 1 | 2 |
Note: Green/yellow wire is physical earth ground. = Contact open, = Contact closed
Contacts Configuration
Z11 Snap Action Contacts (1 N.O. and 1 N.C.):
Make-before-break (overlapping) SPDT: The N.O. contact closes before the N.C. contact opens.
Break-before-make (offset) SPDT: The N.C. contact opens before the N.O. contact closes.
Simultaneous make and break SPDT: The N.C. contact opens at the same time as the N.O. contact closes.
