4. OPERATION
SETUP
Unbox the detector and identify your power source. The detector includes a power supply that connects to the power cord. To set up, remove the 5 hex screws using the provided hex driver. Ensure:
- The power cable is securely attached to the PCB.
- The LED/BUZZER fixture is connected.
- The sensor assembly is secure.
Note: The power cable and alarm LED/BUZZER fixture can be swapped to either side for installation flexibility and aesthetics.
4.1 Turn ON/OFF
Connect the 24V power supply to the detector. The detector will initiate a 60-second countdown before entering normal detection mode. Upon initial power-on, allow 30 minutes for the detector to stabilize. The main display will then show the instantaneous gas concentration. The detector is FACTORY calibrated; therefore, no initial CALIBRATION is typically necessary. However, verify that ALARMS are set according to user satisfaction and local exposure limit requirements, consulting with your safety officer or local/state/federal authorities if needed. To turn off the detector, disconnect the power supply. BUMP testing is recommended to confirm alarm operation.
4.2 Menu Item Operation Description
The detector is primarily operated and controlled via the remote control. Alternatively, the detector's main panel buttons can be used after removing the cover. This requires unscrewing 5 screws with the provided hex screwdriver to access 4 buttons: RETURN, UP, DOWN, and OK. There are three main operation interfaces:
- Detection interface
- Function menu
- Parameter setting interface
Interface | Detection Interface | Main Menu | Parameter Setting Interface |
---|---|---|---|
RETURN | View STEL, TWA data analysis | Return detection interface | Return to last menu |
UP | (N/A - typically used in menus) | Move up | Move up/plus |
DOWN | (N/A - typically used in menus) | Move down | Move down/minus |
OK | Enter main menu | Enter Submenu | Ok/select/save |
5. MENU DESCRIPTIONS
5.1 MAIN MENU
Press the OK button on the remote control to enter the MAIN MENU. Select "1.Back" to return to normal operational mode, or use the back button on the remote control.
MAIN MENU Options:
- 1. Back: Return to normal operation.
- 2. Setting: Access system settings.
- 3. AlarmSet: Configure alarm parameters.
- 4. Gas Zero: Perform zero calibration.
- 5. Gas Check: Perform gas check/span calibration.
- 6. AlarmData: View recorded alarm data.
- 7. Time Set: Adjust the detector's time.
5.2. "SETTING" Menu
System SET Options:
- 1. Back: Returns to the MAIN MENU.
- 2. Channel Set: Manufacturer access only.
- 3. Host Set 4mA: Manufacturer access only.
- 4. Host Set 20mA: Manufacturer access only.
- 5. Set Max: Manufacturer access only.
- 6. Save Factory: Manufacturer access only.
- 7. Reset Factory: Manufacturer access only.
- 8. System Info: Displays summarized alarms and Software Version.
- 9. Language: Select between English or Chinese.
5.3. "ALARM SET" Menu
This option allows users to set warning values and alarm modes. The detector has two alarm point settings: LOW alarm and HIGH alarm. When the detected concentration exceeds the set LOW alarm value, the instrument enters a LOW alarm state, triggering the first set of relays (COM1, NO1, NC1). When the concentration exceeds the set HIGH alarm value, it enters a HIGH alarm state, triggering the second set of relays (COM2, NO2, NC2). The alarm values are pre-set at the factory; users should verify these settings against local exposure alarm levels. Relay specifications are typically 30VDC 2A / 220VAC 2A, with COM and NO being normally open, and COM and NC being normally closed.
5.4. Gas Zero
Gas sensor drift can occur due to electronics or degradation, causing the sensor to deviate from its baseline. Exposure to high concentrations of toxic gas can also permanently affect the sensor ("poisoning"). To perform a ZERO calibration:
- Ensure the sensor is exposed to fresh air (or pure nitrogen for OXYGEN or CARBON DIOXIDE sensors) for at least 30 minutes.
- If zero drift is unacceptable, navigate to the "3. Gas Zero" menu.
- Pass pure nitrogen or clean air through the sensor for at least 2 minutes until a stable reading is achieved.
- Press SAVE.
Note: Pure Nitrogen is required for OXYGEN or CARBON DIOXIDE sensors; fresh air is sufficient for other toxic gases.
5.5. Gas Check / SPAN CALIBRATION
Span calibration should only be performed by experienced technicians. For assistance, contact the manufacturer. Special calibration cap fittings are available for precise calibration using (in/out) tube ports.
5.6. AlarmData
The detector can store up to 1000 alarm records. The interface allows viewing the maximum alarm concentration recorded, along with the time and alarm state of the highest concentration event.
5.7. Time Set
The detector features a back-up battery to maintain accurate time settings even after power loss.
6. INSTALLATION GUIDE
6.1 Installation Location Considerations
Proper installation location is crucial for effective gas detection. Consider the following:
- For isolated rooms, mount the detector at head level for easy visual inspection of the display.
- Locate away from ducts, vents, and areas with significant air turbulence that could dilute air quality. Choose a location representative of the general target area's air quality.
- Consider gas density: lighter gases may require mounting high on the ceiling, while heavier gases may be better placed closer to the ground. Email Forensics Detectors for specific recommendations.
- Do not install:
- In areas with extreme temperatures (outside the 0-122F range).
- Within 5 ft. of heating or cooking appliances.
- Near vents, flues, chimneys, or air ventilation openings.
- Near ceiling fans, doors, windows, or areas directly exposed to weather.
- In dead air spaces (e.g., peaks of vaulted ceilings) where toxic air may not reach the sensor promptly.
- On a switched or dimmer-controlled outlet.
- Where drapes, furniture, or other objects can obstruct vents or block the flow of air to the sensor, or impede visual/audible alarms.
6.2 Detector Installation
The detector is designed for wall mounting. Local codes may require conduit for power wires and RELAY lines; consult a qualified electrical technician. The diagram below illustrates a typical conduit installation. Most installations are custom; ensure installation is performed by qualified technical personnel.
Diagram Description (Typical Conduit Installation):
- 1. Conduit entry point.
- 2. Area for power and/or RELAY wiring.
- 3. Sensor housing.
- 4. Mounting bracket.
- 5. Gas inlet port.
WARNING
- ⚠️ KEEP DETECTOR AWAY FROM ELECTROMAGNETIC & MAGNETIC INTERFERENCES (e.g., PHONES & MAGNETS).
- ? STORE DETECTOR WITHIN SPECIFICATIONS.
- ⚕️ IF UNWELL, SEEK CLEAN AIR & MEDICAL HELP.
- ? ENSURE QUALIFIED PERSONNEL INSTALLS THE UNIT.
- ☣️ KEEP AWAY FROM DUST & PARTICULATE. NEVER EXPOSE TO EXHAUST GAS, CONCENTRATED VAPORS, HARSH CHEMICALS, OR EXTREMELY HIGH CONCENTRATION LEVELS AS IT MAY POISON THE SENSOR (SEE APPENDIX FOR RANGES).
- ❗ FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS AS THE DETECTOR IS VERY SENSITIVE.
Connect the cable according to Ex requirements. The cable end must be treated properly and connected to an Ex junction box or equipment. If the detector is not used with a controller, the cable entrance block must not be removed and must be kept closed with the seal ring.
- ? Do not open the cover when the power is on.
- ⚠️ Pay attention not to damage the Ex surface.
