The auxiliary code consists of the first two characters in the serial number. The first character indicates the year, progressing or regressing alphabetically from "A" through "V" (skipping "I" and "O"). The second character indicates significant part changes within a year, with "0" as the base and advancing for each change. If a letter is in parentheses, it designates the month and is the last character in the serial number, running from "(A)" through "(M)" (skipping "(I)"). This designation is only included when identifying a parts change within an auxiliary code.
