Selecting the Proper Cookware

Your induction cooktop requires compatible cookware. The general rule is: if a magnet sticks to the cookware bottom, it will work with your Duxtop induction cooktop.

The bottom surface of the cookware must:

Suitable Cookware Material:

  • Cast iron
  • Iron
  • Magnetic steel
  • Enameled iron
  • Stainless steel manufactured with a magnetic bottom

DO NOT use cookware made out of:

  • Glass
  • Ceramic
  • Copper
  • Aluminum
  • Non-magnetic stainless steel (18/10, 18/8) bottom

Operating Instructions

⚠ CAUTION: ALWAYS USE A DEDICATED OUTLET. This unit is designed to operate using a 110/120V electrical outlet with a 15 amp capacity. It is a high draw appliance and should not share an outlet or circuit with any other electrical appliance.

  • Place the unit on a dry, stable, level, and non-combustible, non-metallic surface.
  • Allow at least 4 inches of space around the cooktop unit for proper ventilation.
  • Plug the power cord into a 120V/15 amp electrical socket. The unit will beep, and the POWER INDICATOR light will illuminate red.
  • Before turning the cooktop on, ensure ingredients are in compatible cookware and the cookware is centered on the COOKWARE ALIGNMENT GUIDE.
  • To start cooking: Press the "ON/OFF" button. The cooktop will turn ON, the COOL AIR FAN will start, and the LCD display will show dashes. Press the "MENU" button to activate the cooktop at the default power setting of 5.0.
  • After cooking, press the "ON/OFF" button to turn the unit off. The LCD screen will turn off, but "HOT" will display, and the COOL AIR FAN will continue to run until the unit has cooled.
  • If the cooktop does not operate as intended, refer to the Troubleshooting Guide.

NOTE: To briefly preheat a pan, use a low heat setting while supervising. An empty pan can heat up faster than expected.

Operation Modes

The unit offers both Power and Temperature Modes, along with an automatic 10-hour timer.

Power Mode Operation

Power Mode functions independently. The power level selected directly relates to the wattage or BTU/HR equivalent the cooktop generates. Higher power levels increase cooking speed.

  • Default power level: 5.0. Adjust using the [plus-sign] or [minus-sign] buttons (0.5 to 10).
  • If "E2" error code appears, the cookware bottom has exceeded 554°F (290°C). Refer to the error code guide.

Temperature Mode Operation

Use Temperature Mode when a specific cooking temperature is required. The unit maintains the selected temperature.

  • Default temperature setting: 300°F. Adjust using the [plus-sign] or [minus-sign] buttons.
  • Settings range from 100°F to 460°F (37.8°C to 238°C).

Additional Preset Function Buttons:

  • LOCK [Lock]: Locks all buttons except ON/OFF to prevent accidental changes to settings.
  • BOIL [Boil]: Sets Power Mode to level 10 and timer to 10 minutes. The unit beeps and turns off when the timer expires.
  • KEEP WARM [Keep Warm]: Sets Temperature Mode to 140°F with a 30-minute timer.

10-Hour Automatic Timer

The automatic timer can be used with either Temperature or Power mode. Press the "TIMER" button to activate. The minutes will blink, then the hours will blink. Use the [plus-sign] or [minus-sign] buttons to set the time. The timer starts automatically after 5 seconds of inactivity. If no time is set within 10 seconds, the feature will shut off.

The [plus-sign] and [minus-sign] buttons can be tapped for 1-minute/1-hour increments or held for rapid adjustment.

The timer can be reset by pressing the "TIMER" button again. When the timer expires, the unit will beep and turn off.

The unit will shut down automatically in 120 minutes if no button is pressed.

NOTE: The cooktop unit will automatically shut off and beep after 1 minute if:

  • The wrong type of cookware is used.
  • No cookware is placed on the unit ("POT" will flash on the LCD screen).
  • The unit is turned on and the "MENU" button is not pressed.

Care and Maintenance

The cooktop is easy to maintain. Use a moist cloth with mild liquid detergent to wipe off grease and stains, then let dry. Protect the cooktop from dust by covering it when not in use.

DO NOT:

  • Clean the COOKTOP SURFACE with metal scouring pads, abrasives, or solvents.
  • Immerse the cord or cooktop unit in water or other liquids.
  • Keep the unit plugged in while cleaning it.
  • Keep the unit plugged in when not in use.
  • Store or clean the unit while still hot.
  • Place objects heavier than 25 pounds on the COOKTOP SURFACE.
  • Use the unit if the COOKTOP SURFACE or POWER CORD is damaged.
  • Keep the cooktop unit on or near other heat sources.

Troubleshooting Guide & Customer Service

If a problem persists after reviewing this guide, do not attempt to repair the unit yourself. Contact CustomerCare@thesecura.com for assistance.

Common Problems:

  • POWER INDICATOR LIGHT does not illuminate red: Check if the plug is loose or the circuit breaker is tripped.
  • POWER INDICATOR LIGHT is lit, but fan is not running or cookware is not heating: Press the "MENU" button. Ensure correct, magnetic cookware is used and centered on the alignment guide. Check for cracks on the cooktop surface.
  • Cooktop stops heating and shuts down: This may be due to overheating (heating empty cookware, high power for too long, blocked air inlets/outlets). Check for unplugging or tripped circuit breaker.
  • In Power Mode, heating stops due to high surface temperature but display doesn't change: This is a safety feature. The unit will resume heating when the temperature drops. This is common during dry-heat cooking. Turn off the unit to cool down if overheating is suspected.

Error Code Guide

ERROR CODEPROBLEMREMEDY
POTNo cookware detected, incompatible cookware detected, or cookware not centered on the COOKWARE ALIGNMENT GUIDE.Place cookware on top within 1 minute. Replace incompatible cookware. Misaligned cookware: move it within the guide. Unit shuts down automatically after 1 minute if actions are not taken.
E1Excessive high temperature, cooking fan malfunction, or inadequate ventilation for the cooktop.Unplug the cord. Ensure proper ventilation (fan at least 4" from obstruction). Wait 10 minutes for unit and cookware to cool. Plug back in and check fan.
E2The sensor is in normal operation. Surface temperature rises above approximately 518°F (270°C), activating overheating protection. When the surface temperature rises above approximately 554°F (290°C), the unit displays E2 and shuts down automatically in one minute. This is a safety feature to prevent overheating. It typically occurs during POWER MODE when cookware bottom is above 554°F (290°C). High temperatures can damage cookware and cooktop. Allow unit to cool down before using again. Refer to E1 steps.
E3Voltage input is too high or too low, and the unit shuts down after 1 minute.Unplug the cord. Verify voltage is 110/120V AC with a voltage tester. If not, switch to a different outlet with the proper voltage level.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

What are Induction Cooktop Advantages?

Instant and precise heat adjustment. Uses standard 110/120V power. Produces up to 1,800 watts, making it ~50% more powerful than gas stoves and nearly twice as fast as electric elements, without requiring high amperage 220V power.

Is Induction Cooking More Efficient Than Gas?

Yes, induction cooking is 83% energy efficient, compared to gas (30-35%). An induction cooktop costs approximately $0.12 per hour to operate, while gas costs about $1.65 per hour.

How Safe is Induction Cooking?

There is no open flame or hot cooking element. Heat is generated directly in the cookware. The cooktop surface remains cool, except for heat transferred from the cookware.

What are the Electrical Power Requirements?

Units are designed for standard 110/120-volt outlets. It's recommended to dedicate an outlet as each unit draws about 15 amps.

What Type of Cookware Can I Use?

Cookware with a magnetic bottom is compatible. Suitable materials include cast iron, iron, enameled steel/iron, and magnetic stainless steel. Duxtop offers compatible cookware.

How is Induction Cooking Different Than Electric Cooking?

Induction places electrical energy directly into cookware. Electric cooking heats a heating element first, then transfers heat to the pan. Induction is faster and more responsive.

Is it Easy to Use?

Yes, rapid heating makes cooking fast and easy. Cleaning is simple; food does not burn on, allowing for easy wiping with a damp towel.
