Important Safeguards
Always follow basic safety precautions when using your Kenmore Electric Can Opener:
- Read all instructions before use.
- Ensure wall outlet voltage matches the rating plate; do not use voltage converters.
- The appliance has a polarized plug; if it doesn't fit, reverse it. Do not modify the plug.
- Do not operate if the cord, plug, or appliance is damaged, or if it malfunctions. Contact Koolatron Customer Assistance.
- Do not use if the blade is bent or damaged.
- Turn off and unplug when not in use, before assembly/disassembly, and before cleaning. Unplug by grasping the plug, not the cord.
- Recommended for indoor household use only. Do not operate in moving vehicles, boats, or outdoors. Use for intended purpose only to avoid voiding warranty.
- Not intended for use by persons with reduced physical, sensory, or mental capabilities, or lack of experience, without supervision. Supervise children to ensure they do not play with the appliance.
- Keep the power cord away from hot surfaces and edges.
- Ensure the appliance is properly assembled before connecting to power.
- Do not leave the appliance unattended while in use.
- Do not immerse any part of the can opener, power cord, or plug in liquid.
- Use extreme caution around sharp edges (cutting blade, can edges, knife blades).
- Avoid contact with moving parts.
- Do not use for pressurized cans or flammable liquids.
- Do not use for cans designed for other opening methods (pull tab, rolling key, etc.).
- Do not use the bottle opener for screw-top or pull-ring caps.
- Aluminum lids may be removed but will not stick to the magnet.
- Do not use for rimless cans, cans with angled corners, or cans with diameter less than 2 in (5 cm) or height greater than 7 in (17.8 cm).
- Do not use for cans weighing over 50 oz (1.42 kg). For cans 30-50 oz, hold the opener down to prevent overturning.
- Do not operate continuously for more than 30 seconds per can. Allow a 30-minute rest period after opening 10 cans.

Parts and Features
Identify the components of your Kenmore Electric Can Opener:
- A. Blade assembly: Contains the cutting blade and drive mechanism.
- B. Locating pin: Helps position the can rim correctly.
- C. Magnetic lid holder: Holds the cut lid securely.
- D. Can rest: Supports the can during operation.
- E. Piercing lever: Lowers the blade to puncture the can lid.
- F. Cutting blade: The sharp blade that cuts the can lid.
- G. Drive wheel: Rotates the can as it is cut.
- H. Bottle opener: Integrated feature for opening bottles.
- I. Knife sharpener: Built-in sharpener for knives.
- J. Cord storage compartment: Stores excess power cord.
Setup and Assembly
- Carefully unpack the appliance and check that all parts are present. Remove promotional labels and dispose of plastic bags safely.
- Wipe the can opener base and blade assembly with a clean, damp cloth. Do not immerse any part in liquid or use abrasive cleaners.
- Assemble the can opener: Align the tabs on the blade assembly with the slots on the opener front. Push the blade assembly into the body and guide the lever down until resistance is met. The assembly should settle easily into place.
- Place the opener on a flat, dry surface. Plug the power cord into the electrical outlet and tuck excess cord into the storage compartment.
Using Your Can Opener
- Ensure the magnetic lid holder is extended. Lift the piercing lever. Position the can against the can rest, aligning the top rim with the locating pin and the bottom rim with the drive wheel.
- Hold the can with one hand. Lower the piercing lever to engage the magnet with the can lid, ensuring the cutting blade is inside the can's rim.
- Press the piercing lever firmly until the cutting blade punctures the lid and the drive wheel begins to rotate. You can then release the can and lever. For cans over 30 oz (850 g), hold the opener firmly to prevent overturning. The drive wheel will rotate the can until the lid is fully cut and then stop automatically.
- To remove the opened can, hold it with one hand and lift the piercing lever with the other. Carefully detach the lid from the magnet and discard. Avoid touching sharp cut edges.
Can Opening Tips
- Do not use for cans requiring other opening methods (pull tab, rolling key, etc.), rimless cans, or cans with angled corners.
- This opener is designed for circular cans with a diameter larger than 2 in (5 cm), height less than 7 in (17.8 cm), and weighing less than 50 oz (1.42 kg).
- If a can rim has a dent, open the opposite end or start cutting just beyond the dent.
- Cans with thick seams or irregular shapes may cause stalling. Turn the can slightly by hand to assist cutting.
- Open frozen juices or foods in cardboard cans immediately after removal from the freezer. Aluminum lids will not stick to the magnet.
Using Your Bottle Opener
- Unplug the appliance before using the bottle opener.
- Position the bottle cap against the metal hook on the top surface of the bottle opener.
- Hold the opener firmly and pull the bottle down to remove the cap.
Bottle Opening Tips
- Ensure the glass neck of the bottle does not contact the metal hook to prevent breakage and injury.
- The bottle opener only removes metal bottle caps; not screw-top or pull-ring caps.
Using Your Knife Sharpener
- Unplug the appliance before using the knife sharpener.
- Place the sharp edge of the knife into the sharpener slot.
- Carefully pull the knife back and forth against the sharpening surface until desired sharpness is achieved.
- With extreme caution, wash and dry the sharpened knife.
Knife Sharpening Tips
- Wash and thoroughly dry knives before sharpening.
- Do not sharpen serrated blades (e.g., bread knives, kitchen scissors) as this will damage their edges.
- The sharpener can be used for straight-edged stationery scissors.
Care and Cleaning
- Always unplug the appliance before cleaning.
- Remove the blade assembly by lifting the piercing lever fully and pulling the assembly outwards.
- Wipe the blade assembly with a clean, damp cloth and dry thoroughly. Do not immerse in water or use a dishwasher.
- Wipe the can opener base, including the area around the drive wheel and blade assembly opening, with a clean, damp cloth. For stubborn residue, use a nylon or mesh pad with soapy water. Do not use abrasive cleaners or scouring pads.
- Reassemble the can opener according to the setup instructions.
