Audio Installation
Audio Installation with 1580S or 1580HS Kits
The 1580S Kit includes a Model 1580 Counter Station, a Model 1583 Dual Lane Station, and a 571-013 power supply. The 1580HS Kit is identical but includes a 1580H Counter Station with a handset. Additional lane microphones, speakers, call button switches, and shielded cable for customer positions or drive-up lanes must be purchased separately.
Figures 3 and 4 illustrate typical wiring. Connect each LANE port of the 1583 Dual Lane Station to its respective microphone, speaker, and call button using shielded, paired cable with an overall shield, as detailed in the Lane Cable section (page 5). Mount the 1583 under the counter or in a nearby location.
Cable Requirements: Use shielded, paired cable for connections between the Lane Station and lane devices (speaker, microphone, call button, etc.). Four pairs of 18 AWG cable are suitable for most installations. Three-pair cable suffices for basic audio and call functions, but more conductors are needed for pneumatic blower motor sensing, traffic sensors, or dry relay contacts.
The cable must have an overall foil shield. Connect the drain wire to the Common (#8) terminal on each Lane station block. On the customer end, the drain wire must be cut off and not connected. For proper grounding, connect one of the Lane Common terminals to a reliable ground source (e.g., an electrical box or metallic structure) using the supplied green ground wire, which can be extended if necessary.
Audio Counter Station Assembly
Install the supplied gooseneck microphone onto the 1580 Counter Station by plugging it into the rear jack, tightening the hex nut, and securing the rubber boot. If a handset is included, plug it into the bottom jack, route the coil cord through the housing notch, and place the handset on its cradle.
The color chip array under the keypad cover can be rotated to select black/red or yellow/red Lane keys. To do this, remove the keypad cover by loosening the four corner screws, rotate the chip array, and replace the cover. Custom colors can be achieved by replacing chips from the 12-color chip array (761-311, sold separately).
Figure 1. Audio Kits. A diagram illustrates two audio kit configurations: the 1580S Kit (1580 Counter Station, 1583 Dual Lane Station, power supply) and the 1580HS Kit (1580H Counter Station with handset, 1583 Dual Lane Station, power supply).
Figure 2. Shows options for audio input/output: the built-in gooseneck microphone, an optional handset, or a wireless headset.
The counter station power port is used only when the 1583 is not near an AC power outlet, or when both stations require power due to excessive distance.
Figure 3. Typical audio only system with optional handsets installed. This wiring diagram shows the Counter Station (1580H) connected via CAT 5/6 UTP to the Dual Lane Station (1583). The Dual Lane Station then connects to Lane 1 and Lane 2 components (microphone, speaker, call button, handset) using shielded, paired cable and CAT 3 cable for the handset.
Lane Cable Information
Lane Cable
Use shielded, paired cable with three to six twisted pairs to connect the Model 1583 Dual Lane Station to lane devices like microphones, speakers, and call buttons. Allocate one pair for the microphone and one for the speaker to ensure audio quality. Remaining conductors can be used for shared ground functions (Figures 3 and 4). Refer to page 15 for more detailed diagrams.
1583 Wiring Notes
