Bogen HS7EZ Easy Design™ Speaker

Speaker Layout

Figure 1: Speaker Placement Diagram

The diagram illustrates a grid for speaker placement in rows. Row 1 is marked with a 'START' indicator and shows speakers positioned with specific distances labeled A, B, and C between them. Subsequent rows (Row 2, Row 3, Row 4) are shown with spacing relative to the previous row, indicating a pattern for coverage.

General Layout Recommendations:

  • Plan speaker layout prior to installation.
  • Desired mounting height: 15 to 20 feet.
  • Angle speakers downward toward the listening area and ensure they face the same direction.
  • Layout begins in a corner. The first speaker in Row 1 is positioned at a distance 'A' from the corner, based on the area's noise level.
  • The next speaker in Row 1 is placed at a distance 'B' from the first speaker. Subsequent speakers in the row use the same 'B' spacing.
  • Row 2 starts at a distance 'C' from Row 1. Speakers in Row 2 are spaced 'B' apart.
  • Row 3 starts at a distance 'C' from Row 2, continuing this alternating pattern.
  • For areas with high shelving or corridors, position speakers to project down aisles or through corridors.
  • Speaker spacing can be adjusted for even spacing within a row.

NOTE: Each environment is unique. This layout plan is general and may not be applicable for every installation.

Speaker Installation

STEP 1: Mounting the Flange

For easier installation, remove the flange (base) from the speaker by unscrewing the wing nut. Place the flange flush with the mounting surface and mark the pivot area using a marker or chisel. Drill the appropriately sized hole and screw the flange to the surface. Place an additional screw in the front of the flange for swivel control purposes (refer to Figure 3). Use appropriate hardware for your specific mounting surface.

Figure 3: Flange Mounting Detail

Illustration showing how to attach the speaker flange to a mounting surface, including a detail for swivel control.

STEP 2: Attaching and Aiming the Speaker

After mounting the flange, reattach the speaker to the flange. Aim the speaker for the desired coverage. A 45-degree downward angle is recommended, but this may vary depending upon the speaker layout.

STEP 3: Electrical Connections

Make the electrical connection using the two wires connected to the speaker. The suggested amplifier connections are:

  • Amplifier Outputs: 70V
  • COM: Black Wire
  • Speaker Connections: Red Wire

NOTE: The speaker will function correctly if these connections are reversed. However, it is important to maintain consistency in the wiring of speakers within the system.

STEP 4: Adjusting Volume

Adjust the volume control located on the horn to the desired setting. Refer to Figure 2 for suggested initial settings based on the ambient noise level of the environment.
