Montbonnot, France – Power management company Eaton today introduced a new range of uninterruptible power supplies (UPSs) developed to provide reliable power protection at a cost-effective price. The new 5E UPSs offer simple plug-in installation and are available with power ratings from 500 to 2,000 VA as well as being compact enough to be fitted almost anywhere. This makes them suitable for protecting PCs and workstations, network attached storage, internet access points, point-of-sale terminals, business telephony systems and similar equipment.
“The new 5E models are the latest addition to our family of small standalone UPS products,” said Julien Salinas, Product Manager, Eaton. “They make reliable protection available to all users of IT equipment, even those with modest budgets. In addition, the units are easy to install and all but the most basic versions integrate automatically with Windows, MacOS and Linux power management systems."
The 5E's use of advanced line-interactive technology allows it to provide automatic voltage regulation (AVR), which compensates for under- and over-voltage on the mains supply without drawing power from the batteries. This ensures that the connected loads receive high-quality power at all times, and the batteries remain fully charged and ready to support the loads if the mains power fails completely.
In addition, the UPS batteries are permanently recharged, even if the UPS is switched off, and cold-start operation – where the UPS must start with no mains supply available – is fully supported.
USB-enabled models of the 5E UPSs are available to support power management integration with popular operating systems. Additionally, for users of Windows-based systems, Eaton's UPS Companion software is available as a free download and offers users the ability to report on energy use and energy costs as well as providing easy access to UPS status and event information, and allowing simple configuration of the UPS operating parameters.
All 5E UPSs are supplied with IEC outlets, whilst versions providing both IEC and Schuko outlets are available for compatibility with multimedia equipment. Models incorporating data line surge protection to avoid 'back door' damage to IT systems as a result of surges from internet, telephone and fax lines are also offered.
