Do Not Open: No user-serviceable parts inside. Refer servicing to qualified personnel.

Power Sources: Connect only to mains power of the type described or marked on the rear panel. Ensure a good ground connection.

Power Cord: Use the provided cord with a sealed mains plug appropriate for your local supply. Route the cord to prevent it from being walked on or pinched.

Grounding: Do not defeat the grounding or polarization means of the power cord plug. Do not remove or tamper with the ground connection.

Moisture: Do not expose the unit to rain, moisture, or damp/wet conditions. Do not place liquid containers on the unit.

Heat: Do not locate near excessive heat or direct sunlight. Place away from equipment that produces heat.

Environment: Protect from excessive dirt, dust, heat, and vibration. Avoid tobacco ash, drink spillage, and smoke.

Handling: Protect controls from damage during transit. Use adequate padding for shipping. Take care when lifting or moving the unit.

Servicing: Switch off and unplug the unit if exposed to moisture, spilled liquid, or if the cord/plug is damaged. Refer servicing to qualified personnel.

Installation: Install the unit according to the instructions in this user guide.

Introduction

Thank you for purchasing Applied Research and Technology's ART 4x4 PROUSB Series. These power distribution systems are designed for anywhere power distribution and conditioning is needed.

The ART 4x4 PROUSB Series features a unique "4x4" AC jack layout on the back, with four of the eight rear outputs spaced 1.25-inches apart to accommodate wide power cables and multiple wall warts.

The series includes surge and spike protection to safeguard powered equipment from harmful electric surges and spikes. It also features FRI and EMI filtering to eliminate cable-induced noise in the AC power.

A front-located, illuminated on/off power switch provides convenient power up and confirmation. The unit includes two USB charging ports (1A and 2.1A), has a total capacity of 1800 watts, and a front-mounted 15-amp circuit breaker for quick resets.

The rugged, all-steel chassis occupies 1U rack space and is intended for installation into standard 19-inch equipment racks. Applications include live sound systems, PA systems, DJ sound systems, home and project recording systems, and monitor systems.

Professional Grade Power Conditioners with APF

The units feature Advanced Power Filtering (APF) which filters out digital and dimmer hash, as well as high-frequency noise above the audio range. Unlike many off-the-shelf modules that saturate and lose effectiveness with increased load, ART's high-power discrete design maintains filtering effectiveness over the full operating range.

Using Common Mode and Differential Mode topologies in series, the filter effectively blocks unwanted noise between the AC line and ground, and between the two sides of the AC line, reducing ground loop problems.

High-frequency noise currents are attenuated in both directions, preventing noise generated by one component from feeding back into the main AC wiring. Signals above 10kHz are filtered with over 40dB of attenuation above 100kHz.

The ART 4x4 PROUSB SERIES Power Distribution Systems also protect equipment with high-voltage varistor (MOV) surge and transient suppressors that respond in less than a nanosecond, clamping transient voltages to safe levels.

The SP4x4 PROUSB and PS4x4 PROUSB units feature a front panel METER PREVIEW function. This momentary switch allows meters to measure incoming line voltage and current when the main POWER switch is off. This is useful for checking voltage before applying power to equipment connected to the 4x4 PRO USB outlets.

Operation

Maximum Load: The eight circuit breaker-protected outlets are rated at 15 amps total, equivalent to 1800 watts at 120 volts. If the total load exceeds 15 amps, the circuit breaker will trip. To reset, reduce the load and push the circuit breaker button.

Lamps (Models SP4x4 PROUSB & PS4x4 PROUSB): The lamps pull out easily and can be aimed for illumination. Adjust the DIMMER control for desired brightness. Set the RACK LIGHTS switch to OFF when not in use.

Power Switch: A master POWER switch controls the rear outlets and lights (on SP4x4 PROUSB & PS4x4 PROUSB). The switch glows when the unit is on.

USB Charging Ports: Two front-mounted ports provide 1A and 2.1A charging. They are energized when the unit is turned on. Connect standard USB TYPE A (M) connectors.

Meter Preview: This momentary switch activates digital meters to measure incoming line voltage (and current on PS models) while the main POWER switch is off. The front panel outlet is always on, so the ammeter will display current flowing through it. This switch is primarily used to check incoming voltage before turning on the main POWER switch.

Warranty Information

Limited Warranty: Applied Research and Technology warrants this product and its components to be free from defects in workmanship and materials for a period of three years from the date of purchase. ART will, at its option, repair or replace defective products or components upon prepaid delivery to the factory service department or an authorized service center, accompanied by proof of purchase.

Exclusions: This warranty does not apply to misuse, abuse, or unauthorized alterations or repairs. It is void if the serial number is altered, defaced, or removed.

ART reserves the right to make design changes without obligation to install them on previously manufactured products. ART shall not be liable for consequential damages, including damages resulting from loss of use. Some states may not allow limitations of incidental or consequential damages.

For units purchased outside the United States, an authorized distributor of Applied Research and Technology will provide service.

Service

In the unlikely event that your unit requires service:

1. Ensure the unit has power, all cables are connected correctly and are in working condition. Consult your dealer for troubleshooting assistance.
2. If the ART unit is at fault, visit www.artproaudio.com.
3. Select "Support", then "Return Authorization Request" to request a return authorization number.
4. Pack the unit in its original carton or a suitable substitute. Print the RA number clearly on the outside of the shipping box and include your return shipping address.
5. Include a note with the RA number, your contact information (including a return shipping address and daytime phone number), and a description of the problem. Attach this note to the top of the unit. Include a copy of your purchase receipt.
