Introduction

Thank you for purchasing Applied Research and Technology's ISO-8U. Two high power outputs can provide 250mA. All other outputs are capable of providing up to 100mA. There is one variable voltage output to simulate worn batteries. Each output is individually current limited and short circuit protected. An Output status indicator goes out when there is a fault (i.e., short, current protection or temp overload).

A USB type A jack can provide high power charging up to 10 Watts. The charging port will remain active as long as the unit is powered by the external supply.

The unit comes with a wide variety of cables to connect your pedals including battery clip adapters, large and small diameter power plugs, and "Y" for expanding the number of devices you can connect and even a polarity reversing cable.

Features

  • Eight Isolated DC Outputs
  • One Adjustable Output
  • Each Output Has a switchable voltage
  • USB Power jack for high-speed charging
  • Comes with multiple adaptor cords
  • Runs off a Universal power supply
  • Tie wrap slots for clean wire routing
  • Perfect for powering guitar pedals, and pedal boards
  • Designed and developed in the USA

Installation and Operation

Front Panel Description: The front panel features eight DC outputs, labeled 1 through 8. Output 1 is a variable voltage output (4V-9V) with a "Sag Voltage Adjust" knob. Outputs 2 through 6 are rated for 100mA, and outputs 7 and 8 are rated for 250mA. A USB Power port is also present, rated for 10 Watts. Each output has a status indicator LED.

Rear Panel Description: The rear panel features the "POWER INPUT" jack for connecting the external power supply.

Switch Settings: Switch 1, when set to 9V, disengages the sag feature for output 1. Switches 2 through 8 can be set to change the output voltage from 9V to 12Vdc.

Status Lights and Sag Voltage

Status LEDs: These LEDs remain lit as long as there are no electrical faults with the cabling or the pedal being supplied power. If a fault occurs at an output, the LED will dim or turn off, and the voltage at that output will diminish. The cable connection on the output with the fault must be removed and reconnected to reset the output.

SAG Voltage: To enable the sag function on output 1, the dip switch needs to be set to 4-9V. The user can then vary the voltage using the pot on the unit's face.

Applications

The ART ISO-8U is designed for mounting on a pedal base using Velcro. The front and sides are recessed to protect the cables and controls. The bottom edge of the ISO-8U features slots that allow for the use of cable ties to manage power cable routing. Insert wire ties loosely through the slots, run power cables through the loops, and then tighten the ties once all cables are in place.

Cable Choices

QtyCable Description
624-inch straight barrel 5.1mm to 5.1mm barrel
224-inch Rt. Angle 5.1mm to 5.1mm barrel
1Battery clip to 5.1mm barrel
1Polarity reversal 5.1mm to 5.1mm barrel
1"Y" cable (5.1mm) barrel
13.5mm barrel to 5.1mm barrel

Powering Your Pedals

To power your device, ensure the pedal device can be powered by a DC supply. The ART ISO-8U offers voltages of 9V or 12Vdc, or combinations to achieve 18V or 24Vdc. Remember there is a maximum current draw on each output. Verify the polarity of the pedal device you intend to power. Typically, 9V battery-powered devices draw less than 100mA.

The ART ISO-8U uses a negative center pin configuration. This is important when determining if you need to use the polarity reversal cable or a standard cable. This allows you to use a pedal that has a positive center pin. Before connecting the cable, ensure the dipswitch is set to the appropriate voltage (9V or 12V).

If a pedal device lacks a power jack and is powered by a 9V battery, the included cable with a battery tab connector can be used.

There is a limitation on current loading; the unit is not designed to run all outputs at their maximum current draw simultaneously.

Polarity Description: The unit features a negative center pin configuration. A diagram illustrates this, showing the center pin as negative [-] and the outer ring as positive [+].
