Hands-on nursing needs hands-free communication

Where does hands-on nursing happen?

Hands-on nursing happens anywhere the work of patient care is unpredictable, change is constant and teamwork is essential. Whether you need to call a code, call for equipment or call for help, you should always feel connected to the people you rely on.

Communication should fit the way you work.

When your hands are on the patient - especially if you're wearing PPE - unlocking a smartphone, logging into an app and searching for a name in a directory might not be an option. You may find yourself shouting down hallways and struggling to find people and information.

This is why hands-on nursing needs hands-free communication.

Inspired by nurses and designed for fast collaboration, the Sync Badge is a hands-free, wearable communication device that helps support workflow efficiency in dynamic, hands-on patient care environments.

Quick collaboration

Use the Sync Badge to communicate with team members across units and roles, all while keeping your hands free for patient care.

Communicate as easily as you speak

Say, "Okay Vocera" to wake up the Sync Badge and use voice commands to reach contacts by name, role, group or extension. Urgently broadcast to team members for assistance or to assemble a rapid response group. Page a user or group. Call people who are outside the hospital. Make, receive, transfer and forward calls.

If you need additional privacy during a call, hold the Sync Badge to your ear, and it automatically switches to handset mode. ?

Summon help at the press of a button

The Sync Badge has a dedicated panic button you can discreetly press in a moment of distress to quickly reach a response or security team. Responders can hear what's happening, and can locate you even if you're unable to speak. In a less emergent situation, you can use voice commands to broadcast to nearby colleagues for assistance.

Reach the entire care team

The Sync Badge is part of Stryker's enterprise workflow platform that includes not only hands-free, wearable devices but also software for smartphones and desktop workstations. Stryker's technology can even interoperate with your desktop phones and call centre and paging solutions.

Get critical security system alarms and notifications

The Sync Badge is part of an enterprise communication platform that can integrate with hospital security systems for situational awareness, mass notification and more. The platform can route security system alarms and notifications to the right people at the right time and allow broad communication in the event of a threat.

Example Notification:

Alarm: Wander Alert Protocol

Patient ID: RM 501

Time: 11:08 AM

Workflow efficiency

When the work of hands-on patient care is unpredictable and demanding and nursing resources are limited, the Sync Badge can help support nurses' time, steps, and cognitive load.

Know your device is always at the ready

Wear the Sync Badge at the neckline to communicate fast with less disruption to patient care workflow. Tilt the device toward you and you can read the screen and use the intuitive buttons to navigate without needing to remove it from the clip or lanyard.

See and do the most important things first

Multiple messages and calls coming in at once? The Sync Badge's three-section inbox is a communication wrangler, organising new messages, seen messages and calls and helping you to act promptly on communications and easily access previously viewed items.

Quickly identify urgent notifications, and the number and priority of unread notifications - alarms and notifications are colour coded by priority.

Stay focused on critical tasks

You can use voice commands to answer a call or respond to an urgent message while keeping hands and eyes on the patient. To allow focus on critical patient care tasks, set the Sync Badge to Do Not Disturb mode, allowing normal-priority calls and notifications to automatically route to a predefined user or group.

Let the alarms and notifications you need come to you

Receive alarms, critical lab results and STAT order notifications directly on the Sync Badge. Through integration with Stryker's Vocera Engage middleware, the Sync Badge can receive information from your electronic medical record (EMR)*, nurse call, patient monitoring systems, medical devices*, scheduling systems, connected beds* and stretchers, and more.*

*Vocera Engage, the workflow engine, includes Engage Medical Device Alarm Notification (EMDAN), which is not available for purchase by the general public. Vocera Engage enables filtering, routing, escalation, and prioritisation of alarm and event notifications that clinicians receive on their device of choice. Delivery of secondary alarms requires Engage Medical Device Alarm Notification (EMDAN). Capabilities are based on your facility's protocols and technology configuration.

**Minibadge is not available with EMDAN configuration.
