LARK 83770 Mounting and Wiring Instructions
Item No: 83770
Getting Started
Follow these steps before beginning installation:
- Find a clear area in which you can work.
- Unpack fixture and glass from carton.
- Carefully review instructions prior to assembly.
Mounting Instructions (Drawing 1)
This section describes the physical mounting of the fixture.
- To mount the fixture, first release the mounting plate (M) by removing the screws (S).
- Secure the mounting plate (M) to the junction box (J) using screws (C) (not provided).
- Make wiring connections using the instructions on the following page (IS-18).
- Secure the backplate (B) to the mounting plate (M) using the previously removed screws (S).
- Place the shade (2) over the socket.
- Use the socket ring (4) to secure the shade (2).
- Install the appropriate medium base bulb (1) into the fixture.
- The fixture can now be powered on.
Diagram Description (Drawing 1): Illustrates the mounting plate (M) being attached to a junction box (J) with screws (C). The backplate (B) is then secured to the mounting plate (M) with screws (S). The shade (2) is shown being placed over the socket and secured by a socket ring (4). A bulb (1) is depicted in the socket.
Safety Warnings
WARNING: READ WIRING AND GROUNDING INSTRUCTIONS (I.S. 18) AND ANY ADDITIONAL DIRECTIONS. TURN POWER SUPPLY OFF DURING INSTALLATION. IF NEW WIRING IS REQUIRED, CONSULT A QUALIFIED ELECTRICIAN OR LOCAL AUTHORITIES FOR CODE REQUIREMENTS.
Make electrical connections from supply wire to fixture lead wires. Refer to instruction sheet (I.S. 18) and follow all instructions to make all necessary wiring connections. Then refer back to this sheet to complete installation of this fixture.
Wiring and Grounding Instructions (IS-18)
Wiring Instructions
Indoor Fixtures
- Connect the positive supply wire (A) (typically black or the smooth, unmarked side of the two-conductor cord) to the positive fixture lead (B) with an appropriately sized twist-on connector. Refer to Wiring Diagram 1 or 2.
- Connect the negative supply wire (C) (typically white or the ribbed, marked side of the two-conductor cord) to the negative fixture lead (D).
- Refer to the grounding instructions below to complete all electrical connections.
Outdoor Fixtures
- Connect the positive supply wire (A) (typically black or the smooth, unmarked side of the two-conductor cord) to the positive fixture lead (B) with an appropriately sized twist-on connector. Refer to Wiring Diagram 2 or 3.
- Connect the negative supply wire (C) (typically white or the ribbed, marked side of the two-conductor cord) to the negative fixture lead (D).
- Cover the open end of connectors with silicone sealant to form a watertight seal.
- If installing a wall mount fixture, use caulk to seal gaps between the fixture mounting plate (backplate) and the wall. This will help prevent water from entering the outlet box. If the wall surface is lap siding, use caulk and a fixture mounting platform specially.
- Refer to the grounding instructions below to complete all electrical connections.
Grounding Instructions
Flush Mount Fixtures
For positive grounding in a 3-wire electrical system, fasten the fixture ground wire (E) (typically copper or green plastic coated) to the fixture mounting strap (M) with the ground screw (S). See Wiring Diagram 1.
Note: On straps for screw-supported fixtures, first install the two mounting screws in the strap. Any remaining tapped hole may be used for the ground screw.
Chain Hung Fixtures
Loop the fixture ground wire (E) (typically copper or green plastic coated) under the head of the ground screw (S) on the fixture mounting strap (M) and connect it to the loose end of the fixture ground wire directly to the ground wire of the building system with appropriately sized twist-on connectors. See Wiring Diagram 2.
Post-Mount Fixtures
Connect the fixture ground wire (E) (typically copper or green plastic coated) to the power supply ground with an appropriately sized twist-on connector inside the post. Cover the open end of the connector with silicone sealant to form a watertight seal. See Wiring Diagram 3.
Wiring Diagram Descriptions:
- Drawing 1 (Flush Mount): Shows supply wires (positive A, negative C) connecting to fixture leads (positive B, negative D) via twist-on connectors. The fixture ground wire (E) is shown connected to the mounting strap (M) using a ground screw (S).
- Drawing 2 (Chain Hung): Similar to flush mount, illustrating the connection of supply wires to fixture leads and the fixture ground wire (E) to the mounting strap (M) via ground screw (S), intended for chain-hung installations.
- Drawing 3 (Post-Mount): Depicts the connection of supply wires to fixture leads and the fixture ground wire (E) to the power supply ground within a post, with the connector sealed.
