Before First Use

The first time you use the toaster, run it empty without bread. This pre-heats the element and burns off any dust from storage. The control lever will not lock down if the toaster is not plugged in and switched on.

  1. Ensure the crumb tray is in place and the bread carriage is in the up position.
  2. Place the toaster on a stable, flat countertop, at least 3 inches from walls or the rear of the counter.
  3. Unwind the power cord and plug it into a nearby outlet.
  4. Insert bread slices, ensuring the bread carriage lever is in the UP position.
  5. Press the bread carriage lever down until it locks.
  6. When toasting is complete, the toast will automatically eject. To stop toasting early, press the Cancel button.
  7. After use, unplug the toaster from the electrical outlet.

WARNING: NEVER IMMERSE THE TOASTER IN WATER OR ANY OTHER LIQUIDS.

How to Use

  1. Plug the toaster into a suitable power outlet and turn it on.
  2. Set the toasting level by turning the selector clockwise from 1 (lightest) to 6 (darkest). Start with a lower setting if unsure.
  3. Insert one slice of bread per slot and lower the lever until it clicks into place.
  4. The toaster will begin toasting and will automatically switch off and eject the toast when finished.
  5. Allow the unit to cool before storing.

To use special functions, press the relevant button (DEFROST, BAGEL) after lowering the lever. The corresponding LED will illuminate.

  • DEFROST: To defrost and toast frozen bread.
  • BAGEL: Toasts one side of a bagel or hamburger bun half. Only the outer heating coils are active, keeping the inner coils cool. Ensure the side to be toasted faces outwards.
  • CANCEL: To stop the toasting process.

Toasting Notes

Toasting involves cooking and drying bread. Moisture content affects toasting time.

  • Thickly cut bread requires longer toasting times due to higher moisture content; very thick pieces may need two cycles.
  • For raisin or fruit breads, remove loose raisins from the surface before toasting to prevent them from falling into the toaster or sticking to the guard wire.
  • Slice bagels into two equal halves before toasting.
  • For single slice toasting, set the light/dark selector to a lighter shade than usual. The toaster is designed for two slices, so a lower setting prevents over-toasting a single slice.
  • Exercise caution when toasting pastries, as the filling can become very hot before the pastry surface browns.
  • When the cycle finishes, the toast automatically ejects. Press Cancel to stop early.

Crumb Tray

The crumb tray should be emptied regularly to prevent fire hazards from accumulated crumbs. After toasting, allow the toaster to cool completely, then slide out and empty the crumb tray.

Note on Slot Usage

The toasting slots accommodate various bread widths, muffins, tea cakes, crumpets, and bagels. Do not force items that are too large. If an item becomes jammed, immediately switch off and unplug the toaster. Once cool, turn the toaster upside down and gently shake to remove the item. Do not use sharp objects like knives, as this can damage the heating element.

Maintenance

CAUTION:

Always ensure the appliance is switched OFF before cleaning or storing.

Never immerse the appliance in water or running water.

Cleaning

  1. Always unplug the toaster and allow it to cool before cleaning.
  2. Do not use abrasive cleaners. Wipe the exterior with a clean, damp cloth and dry thoroughly. Apply cleaning agents to the cloth, not directly to the toaster.
  3. To remove crumbs, slide out the crumb tray, discard crumbs, wipe clean, and replace. Never operate the toaster without the crumb tray.
  4. To remove any remaining bread pieces, turn the toaster upside down and shake gently. Never insert hard or sharp instruments into the slots, as this can cause damage or a safety hazard. Do not wrap the cord around the toaster sides; use the underside cord storage cleats.

DO NOT use metal polish, abrasive powders, hard abrasive scourers, or wire wool.

DO NOT immerse the toaster in water or any other liquid.

DO NOT use sharp or pointed articles for cleaning the inside, as this will damage the heating element.

NEVER put metal objects or fingers into the toasting slots. If an item jams, switch off and unplug immediately. Once cool, turn the toaster upside down and shake gently to remove.

CAUTION:

  1. Do not touch hot surfaces; use handles or knobs. The top surfaces become extremely hot.
  2. To prevent electrical hazards, do not immerse the cord, plug, or toaster in water or other liquids. Refer to cleaning instructions.
  3. Close supervision is necessary when the appliance is used by or near children.
  4. Always unplug the appliance when not in use and before cleaning. Allow to cool before cleaning and handling.

Storing

Allow the appliance to cool completely before storing. Store in a dry location. Do not place heavy items on top of the appliance during storage, as this may cause damage.

Troubleshooting

  • To remove smaller items like muffins, crumpets, and bagels, the control lever can be lifted approximately 1/2 inch above its starting position.
  • For even browning, allow a minimum of 10 seconds between toasting cycles for the control to reset automatically.
  • For best results, use bread slices of consistent thickness, size, and freshness. Select a lower setting:
    • a. For stale bread (toasts faster than fresh bread).
    • b. For thin bread (toasts faster than thick bread).
